I also know of a C.E. school who had 1 child too many apply for places. He gave the space to the child whose Dad was a mechanic and offered to service the school minibus for free.

I'll tell you exactly how it works. The applications are in

  • Governors with priest input (they are usually also on the board of Governors) puts forward any children/families who he thinks need special treatment/priority. This won't be "middle classes" but children in care, fostered etc.
  • siblings
  • baptised children based on distance: computer program sorts this list out.
  • then that is it... usually full. if not then children of other Christian faiths, based on distance
  • then children of no faith, based on distance.

I don't know about this year cos I don't know anyone who has applied there this year but last year the supplementary forms asked about parent's occupations and also there's the address to go on.
