to think that Kerry Katona sounded either drunk/drugged or as though she'd had a stroke on tv this morning

........ was anyone else watching this?

I was amazed when Phillip Scofield asked her if there was somethng wrong with her as she was slurring her words. I was imagining what his producer was screeching down his ear piece and feeling sorry for him being put on the spot like that. And actually felt sorry for KK too - a bit.

It was riviting tv.....

empathy is when you have experienced similar stuff, i have not. (childhood aside)
sympathy is when you feel sorry for someone. i do not.
she chooses to live her life in the public eye,
shes a prime idiot, and one that has got caught up in the 'im a celebrity, im above anyone else, i can do what the f**k i like now" mentality.
she wants to wake up and smell the coffee.

Lilyloo · 22/10/2008 21:54

shootfromthehip agree it isn't an excuse to behave like a muppet however maybe a reason for others to have some understanding and compassion ?
She has had a shitty childhood and hasn't been able to live a 'normal' adult life with all the extra things her fame has brought. Why feel angry at that i don't know ? Maybe her medication was responsible for this today , maybe not but she doesn't deserve to be villified as i wouldn't like to walk a single step in her shoes!

shootfromthehip · 22/10/2008 21:54

I am not saying that what is going on with the woman is not deeply sad, however, you cannot consistantly court the media in the way that she does and not expect to occasionally have it bite you on the arse.

I feel for her kids, I feel for her mental/ emotional state and I too wonder if the media should be bleeding her dry, however she is making these choices.

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 22/10/2008 21:55

Its sad she doesn't seem to have anybody around her wanting to help her.
The best thing for Britney was when her dad took control of her finances and her rights to make decisions.
I feel sorry for Kerry that she doens't seem to have anybody there to do that for her - her husband appears to be a useless shite, so it isn't like he is going to help.

Amandoh · 22/10/2008 21:55

I felt terribly sorry for her. She's obviously oblivious to the state she's in. Let's hope someone gives her a stern talking to and she gets the help she so clearly needs.

On a positive note though, she looked the best she's looked in a while.

peacelily · 22/10/2008 21:57

True empathy is when you've had the same experiences as someone else, often rare.

Empathy however is when you try to put yourself in someone elses shoes and imaine how it feels to be in their position.

Being empathic is therapeutic, sympathy is not.

any attempt at empathy no matter how rudimentary is more helpful than sympathy.

notnowbernard · 22/10/2008 22:00

Her situation has gone beyond all the media crap, though

As someone said earlier, if she was a 'nobody' but with this presentation she would still be living a shitty existence with currently uncontrolled bi-polar disorder and a healthy dose of addiction issues (allegedly)

bundle · 22/10/2008 22:04

shootfromthehip,

when people are featured in tv programmes they need to make informed consent - in other words to fully understand what they are doing and to be mentally competent enough to do that. She clearly isn't and any proper programme maker would digest that information and refuse to broadcast an interview with her, ratings or no ratings.

umberellascankill · 22/10/2008 22:07

I don't watch her tv show but the pre-surgery clip they showed on this morning was horrendous. She was clearly not 'with it', and whoever is paying her paid for her to have her body sliced up for the vicarious entertainment of their viewers. I am surprised any self respecting surgeon would have gone along with this, it made me feel very queasy.

That awful guy she is with too...very sad, poor girl. Surrounded by utter parasites.

umberellascankill · 22/10/2008 22:07

right on, bundle.

bundle · 22/10/2008 22:08

have emailed itv

Twelvelegs · 22/10/2008 22:08

She is media fodder and makes money for those who encourage her to continue. I don't watch this morning or other daytime TV, have when incredibly tired after a sleepless night with a newborn, and thought that Phil and Fern seemed quite parental about their behaviour toward her. I can't help thinking that's what she needs.

bundle · 22/10/2008 22:08

12legs she does need parenting, but not on tv

Twelvelegs · 22/10/2008 22:10

Oh gosh yes, that's not what I meant. Just as exploitative TV goes I thought this was pretty reserved1!!

umberellascankill · 22/10/2008 22:11

Absolutely not.

Lilyloo · 22/10/2008 22:15

twelvelegs completely agree it was like parents trying to appease their child ! Sad it had to be in front of a tv nation!

conniedescending · 22/10/2008 22:17

she's on celebrity juice right now on itv2

slurring away

just had a google and it seems she filmed it earlier today - what are the producers thinking!!!!!!!!!!

i thought both fern and phil were awful to be honest

but then they are paid to be

syrup and sponge

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 22/10/2008 23:17

Did any of you see her mtv show? (if not the whole spectacle is on youtube. I would feel sorry for her but she invites it. Every last fecking two line article.

lauraloola · 23/10/2008 09:45

Oh no! I love Celebrity Juice! Is it repeated later in the week?

Fair play to Phil for coming straight out and asking her what everyone was thinking.

BalloonSlayer · 23/10/2008 09:56

One point no one has mentioned is that watching TV we can only see and hear, whereas the presenters can smell too, and maybe that's why they asked about alcohol?

RubyShivers · 23/10/2008 10:44

agree with RR - it is all very sad

and she has children of school age who are no doubt hearing about this

I think she needs to be sheltered far away from all the media BUT the irony is that she relies on them for her income

They re-played the clip on GMTV this morning and it was horrible - she looked broken and her eyes were vacant (in spite of the glossy new hair do and immaculate make up)

clam · 23/10/2008 11:12

They had Doctor Hilary on GMTV this morning, discussing it and, leaving aside the fact that I think he is a smarmy, patronising git, he gave a medic's view of her condition (although, to be fair, he spoke in terms of "someone" presenting in his surgery in that condition, not about KK specifically ). He said that 150mg of the drug she is on is a maintenance dose that is quite high and she should look to adjusting it. He thought it unlikely the meds caused slurring in that way and that, if he know of a patient's history with alcohol/substance abuse, he would be asking questions along those lines.
I agreed with Phil, though, that we definitely are not seeing the same girl who won "I'm a Celebrity..." a few years back and, having developed a bit of a soft spot for her on there, I feel very sad about that.
