To hate materialism/western world and want to live with a remote tribe

Chilrearing seems to be so hard and everyone so unhappy

We must have gone wrong somewhere?

I personally blame capitalism, elitism and modern living/parenting

The thread about women expecting exspensive gifts for giving birth is an example

In some traditional tribes people fulfil their natural purpose and experience true happiness. Mothering is cherised and supported by the community.

Their children seem happier and are less demanding.

They don't lust after diamond rings or push their LOs into hundreds of activities in order to make them better, bigger, stronger.

Just a thought

Ha!Ha!

Was looking back through old threads because I am bored and too brain dead to do anything interesting. PMSL at this one started when I was 6 weeks pregnant with my now 3 month old bundle of joy

Sustained a third degree tear along the way so western medicine came up trumps and saved me from life long pain and disformity (if not death). However have avoided the PND this time

Must of been hormonal to claim I would rather go without hot water and have support with the housework!

LOL, yes... have tried the living-with ancient-minded,-tribal,-anti-western,-no-idea-what-capitalism-is,-unless-it's-attempting-to-line-my- own-pockets-by-lying though-my-teeth-to-you, stealing-from-you, or-just-plain-offering-myself-to-your-husband Tribe thing...

It's shit, it screws your brain & leaves you traumatised.

Viva capitalism! But in moderation, pay down the credit cards and leave them paid off, set them to automatically pay off full balance.. that'll make you think before you dust em off again.

If you don't need it, seriously want it, can't live with out it... don't buy it. Take yourself off for a coffee before taking anything you are thinking of buying up to the cash desk.

Live with less, and live more!

I wasn;t on the original thread rose, but so pleased that all is well with you and your LO

Personally I'd miss the washing machine and of course the laptop

TotallyAndUtterlyPaninied · 30/09/2009 21:51

Firstly I think you should be happy with what you've got. You are lucky to live in the western world with all the advantages such as medical care.

But I kind of know what you mean in that when I visited Jamaica and saw how people were poor but happy and lived in shacks but had 'no problems' I was quite attracted by the simpler way of life.

I thank God I can have scans and have a beautiful son and 2 nieces born at 28 weeks who would have died without wonderful care from the hospitals in this country.

Not everyone wants a prize for giving birth. Some of us are content with being mummies.

PMSL @ everyone missing the update

I think it's a bit long rose, people won't realise!

TotallyAndUtterlyPaninied · 30/09/2009 22:01

Oh sorry if it's moved on, it's late, I couldn't be arsed to read it all

SardineQueen · 30/09/2009 22:02

The original thread was a year ago, rose updates a few posts up, that;s all you need to read

piscesmoon · 30/09/2009 22:21

I haven't read it all but I agree with mabanana on the first page -I am just very thankful for what I have. The only advantage I can see that as MIL (mother of DSs) I would be a very important person!

In my gap year I went to live with some hill tribes in the Himalayas and I came back wishing I could go back and live their ''idylic'' lifestyle. The villages seemed so harmonious.

It was easy for me to say as I could fly back to Blighty and my house dosn't get washed away once a year in the annual monsoon. I also don't have to treck up huge hills with bundles of fire wood on my back. I know capitalism isn't great but neither is the alternative!

scottishmummy · 30/09/2009 23:21

rose what an idyllic and unfounded prosperous westerner take on tribal life

don't generalise and mythologise tribes as happy unfettered folk

don't generalise or demonise life here as all avaricious either.many uk families struggle and live in poverty

we all make our choices, you are fortunate enough to have broadband and pc (very modern living) to allow you to make yours.nowt stoping you selling the pc, renouncing the broadband and trotting offsky elsewhere

me?i see inequalities and moral quandaries yes
but i like my house, my pc, my broadband.i am fortunate so staying put - thanks
