Griff Rhys Jones on Cities of the World
Stephen Fry in America
Paul Merton in India

and if Dan Cruickshank or Michaeil Palin make another series I will throw the telly out the window.

Why does anyone care what these old farts think - especially when their "insights" are so boring/patronising/really about themselves.

And when do any women get to go?
Rant over.

southeastastra · 15/10/2008 11:40

agree with you! i'm personally fed up with alan yentob atm

saltire · 15/10/2008 11:42

There is a letter about this in radio Times, someone saying that Stephen Fry wanted to go to America to see where he "could" have grown up, so in that case could the BBC pay for the letter writer to go to Canada, as he had always fancied going, and while theyw ere at it, could they pay for him to havehis family tree traced.

AMumInScotland · 15/10/2008 11:43

Victoria Wodd went off on one of those trips - I think to different places called "Victoria" - imaginative huh?

AMumInScotland · 15/10/2008 11:44

Wood even....

PavlovtheWitchesCat · 15/10/2008 11:45

You know, I watched Mr Jones the other day in New York and thought pretyy much the same thing.

wotnopulling · 15/10/2008 11:45

it's worked once so we'll commission it again and again and again until there are no middle aged blokes left to wander round a market in india and comment on the amazing smells and colours...........yawn

tv prog commissioners come below estate agents 'nutritionists' who poke through poo in the waste of space league.

yanbu

Eniddo · 15/10/2008 11:45

i agree

but tbh even joanna lumley at the northern lights makes me barf

cd the no mark mate got his OWN SHOW [horrified/bored/incredulous]

Eniddo · 15/10/2008 11:46

but wait a minute

lovely bruce parry in the amazon is different and I wont hear a word agains thim

AMumInScotland · 15/10/2008 11:49

The problem is you get one or two quite good documentaries which happen to be hosted by someone famous for something else, but who happens to know a lot about the subject. They are popular because the person is knowledgable but the dumb-ass program makers think they are good because the presenter is a celebrity - so they copy the wrong thing. And because they can show how successful the earlier thing was, the dumb-ass advertisers will give them good money for the idea. So they get lists of celebrities and parts of the world at random, and think it's bound to be a good idea!

ScareyBitchFeast · 15/10/2008 11:49

i saw one of those bruce parry things, half saw, there was a little boy who they called Bruce - he was a sweetie

Carmenere · 15/10/2008 11:50

Bruce Parry is brilliant and should be allowed wander everywhere even over me

rebelmum1 · 15/10/2008 11:51

I agree!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My thoughts entirely! Why do you want to sit on your arse watching someone else's holiday?

EllieG · 15/10/2008 11:51

Euan thingy very annoying yes, but I love the lovely Bruce Parry and would marry him in a heartbeat, so he can stay on telly. All the rest can sod off though. Even the usually fab Joanna Lumley - I thought her northern lights thing was excruciating - dull, navel gazing.

CatIsSleepy · 15/10/2008 11:52

LOLOL at OP, I do know what you mean

charley boorman has got to be the worst offender-dh always fumes about the huge production team he has travelling with him whilst pretending to have an 'adventure'

Paul Merton does make me laugh though... and Bruce P is lovely

BadgerQueen · 15/10/2008 11:54

I like Stephen Fry a lot too,but the America programme was sooooooo poor (Ben and Jerry's and some very strange deer hunting men?!) and the premise is
crap - we all might have been born somewhere else.

Eniddo - is it the stripping off of Bruce Parry that appeals? God, naked Paul merton in India - something I don't want to see....

Oh I forgot that chef bloke and his dog - argh, what's his name?

i agree Stephen Fry prog was dull! and a bit pointless

ooh is there a fight developing over the lovely Bruce?

EllieG · 15/10/2008 11:56

No no no he's mine, I read his book and everything so you see, I think we could be really compatible, and I could ditch the kids and travel the world taking hallucinogens with various tribesmen.

Eniddo · 15/10/2008 11:57

i saw a glimpse of stephen fry sitting round a table with a bunch of new englanders

there was an embarrassed silence that he was desparetely trying to fill

he is so boring anyway

ditoo griff rhys jones

that stupid anger programme

just learn to control yourself you spoilt old luvvie

BadgerQueen · 15/10/2008 11:57

Dandy - don't you think its a teensy bit (ie a lot) easier for established middle class white men to get to do what they want on telly and on the BBC we are bloody paying for it? Why do the programme commissioners agree to take so much of this suff on?
