AIBU?

to be sick of tv full of middle aged white men travelling round the world for our "entertainment"

Griff Rhys Jones on Cities of the World
Stephen Fry in America
Paul Merton in India

and if Dan Cruickshank or Michaeil Palin make another series I will throw the telly out the window.

Why does anyone care what these old farts think - especially when their "insights" are so boring/patronising/really about themselves.

And when do any women get to go?
Rant over.

oh here here, so true! Would much rather watch a bunch of us Mumsnetters' do it to be honest..

I did quite enjoy watching Paul Merton get stoned with the holy men who were lifting things with their willies...

I don't think they do see that, I mean how long has the bill been going on for ... and midsomer murders... does anyone watch Frost?

Liked Griff Rhys Jones going up mountains. Don;t really like him much though.

BadgerQueen - the Dalai Lama is always cracking jokes. What did MR P say to him?

the bill and coronation street are the ony progs itv can sell advertising on the back of. hugely popular. bill longest running drama i think (not a soap).

i watched frost i know. not challenging but still well done. there is a place for a predicable, alright in the end but a bit poignant drama, no? not sure about this new two story idea though - didn't really work for me.

and midsomer murders, again, cosy but good at what it's good at - the issue is commissioners seeing success of eg the bill or spooks on bbc and trying to make all drama echo that format (eg holby blue - shortlived attempt by bbc to cash in on the bill success)

Its ages ago now that we first saw it, but I liked him before the Himalaya series. It wasn't so much what he said but the way he said it - and he seemed to have done almost no research and was generally a bit smirky and partonising, as in "oh you think you are so clever and enlightedned, what am I going to come back as in my next life"- as much so to the Tibetan people (who he asked really stupid, dangerous questions like "What is life like under Chinese occupation?" or some such - which obviously they can't answer honestly). I should be more accurate, but we saw it repeated again recently and I felt the same.

Charley Boorman is my particular bugbear. He has a famous dad too (yawn, we just happened to set off from daddy's mansion this time) and only encountered Euan MacGregor professionally on a dire film directed by Boorman pere in which CB had a small role.
Since then he has been working as a waitress in a cocktail bar. He certainly doesn't get any acting gigs anymore, the imbecile.
Alan Yentob's "I'm listening deferential head-cocking is annoying but he does have the knack of making engrossing programmes. I expected to find the Imagine on Akram Khan and Juliette Binoche absolutely hateful, but it wasn't.

my genuine concern is that if you do send this to feedback at the bbc, someone will commission the davina goes to bb countries idea. i'm serious...

i thought exactly the same thing when i looked at the tv listings this morning. who thought that griff rhys jones thing would be interesting, going round new york city with him would be a right chore. do any MNers have better suggestions for men-you-know-off-the-telly-telling-you-about-stuff programmes?
I suggest -
Crispin Glover's Favourite Vegetables
I Own Britain's Most Energy Efficient Home with Jeff Stelling
