Griff Rhys Jones on Cities of the World
Stephen Fry in America
Paul Merton in India

and if Dan Cruickshank or Michaeil Palin make another series I will throw the telly out the window.

Why does anyone care what these old farts think - especially when their "insights" are so boring/patronising/really about themselves.

And when do any women get to go?
Rant over.

rebelmum1 · 15/10/2008 11:59

unbreakables is mildly interesting, they're not celebrities and they get whipped and frozen .. much more my cup of tea

bran · 15/10/2008 11:59

There's a children's one that they should show on the mainstream evening slot, where they go and visit the country where their parents or grandparents emigrated from. I can't remember what it's called now, it's a while since I last saw it.

BadgerQueen · 15/10/2008 11:59

God yes Griff on anger, Griff in London, what next Griff goes to Ipswich and scratches his bum?

Who is winning on getting tribal with Bruce P?

the tragedy is, amuminscotland, they're not even getting the advertisers. or the viewers.
and paul merton is just funny - yes, use him but think of something fresh to do! not force him to rehash wickers world again and again and again...

don't start me on charley boredom.

and at the same time, channels have expensive exclusivity deals with popular actors (wassername, raquel off coronation street...sarah lancashire) and good actors who are kicking their heels (funny bloke out of 'brand new customers only' building society adverts - mark benton ?) who've got no decent projects.
while we're force fed charley boredom and griff rhys jones. sigh.

CatIsSleepy · 15/10/2008 12:01

i think BQ once one programme like this has been successful there is an inevitable deluge of similar stuff
like with property shows, reality shows etc etc ad nauseum
eventually the powers-that-be will realise we are fed up to the back teeth of seeing the same old shite

well, hopefully

Eniddo · 15/10/2008 12:01

i have often thought that cat

EllieG · 15/10/2008 12:02

Me

BadgerQueen · 15/10/2008 12:02

I don't think mark benton is kicking his heels - he's in everything.

am building a hut in my back garden just for bruce

priceyp · 15/10/2008 12:02

They have run out of white haired, middle class, white men. There's that stupid Venetian geezer at it now.

Charlie (I have a famous mate) Boorman, barf.

Any of the Dimblebys yelling at russian peasants about soil makes my blood boil. Patronising shits.

AMumInScotland · 15/10/2008 12:04

You do wonder who they try these ideas out on - are they all so completely separate from real life that they don't know how bored people are with these programs? There's about 3 programs on at the moment that I even bother with, the rest of the time if I turn the TV on I just end up flicking from one to the other wondering who they are aimed at, 'cos it's certainly not me.

nooOOOoonki · 15/10/2008 12:04

Palin always makes me cringe he is so patronising, and rude.

EllieG · 15/10/2008 12:04

Dammit, I don't have a garden. Do you think he could live in a flat? I could drap some branches and stuff around?

You are right cat - but if they are going to peddle this crap why don't they make a more interesting twist or get someone with a proper connection or interest?

CatIsSleepy · 15/10/2008 12:07

nice try ellie

wotnopulling · 15/10/2008 12:07

i heard benton complaining lack of decent stuff being offered to him - but this low gossip!

i have said it before and i'll say it again (bit like a tv commissioner) you must tell the bbc if you object to output - they won't just 'realise' it's crap if we dont' tell them we think it is. these people live in a bubble.

CatIsSleepy · 15/10/2008 12:07

cos they have no imagination BQ
playing it safe I guess...and therefore dull!

Simplysally · 15/10/2008 12:09

I enjoyed Michael Palin's Pole to Pole and Around the World in 80 days but there are too many now. Gryff Rhys Jones is on tv too much anyhow - he was on a boating thing last year with that tubby beardy guy, his anger programme and now his City thing.

MrsNormanMaine · 15/10/2008 12:10

I like Paul Merton and Stephen Fry and Michael Palin. Haven't watched any of the latest stuff though since I am busy doing more interesting things like hanging out washing and worrying about the decline of the honey bee.

priceyp · 15/10/2008 12:10

The crap that the BBC insist on commissioning is the reason why I watch predominantly american television shows.

BadgerQueen · 15/10/2008 12:10

Sorry Dandy - reading at speed with LO squeaking. Yes you are right we do watch them - there is sod all else on. Didn't see the Lenny Henry one, and apart from the v dull Victoria Wood one not really aware of other women. Some of the best Who do you think You are? progs have been people like Moira Stewart - she was so nice and humble and interested and interesting.

I hate Michael Palin too - the only man on the planet who thinks its funny to be rude to the Dalai Lama (well apart from most Chinese people). Prat.
