To think this childminder was being bang out of order?

Just picked DS up from nursery. One of his classmates was picked up by the childminder and I overheard the conversation as we walked behind them.

CM: Your mum has given you spaghetti bolognese for lunch.
BOY:Ok.
CM: It's not okay really, why did she give you that? It's not the best idea for lunch, what do I have to do now?
BOY:I don't know.
CM: Well, it's not helping me is it? Nice of her to think about me when she made your lunch. You're going to have to sit in the highchair, like that babies, in the kitchen, no way I'm having you sat in my living room on my cream carpet eating that.

Anyway, she was still going on at him when she walked off.
Surely she should keep her gob shut and mention it to the mother?
AND if she can't cater for a child to have their lunch then she should reconsider her job?

Sorry. I know it's none of my business but I felt really sorry for this kid. He hadn't done anything wrong yet was getting a combination of a lecture and someone slagging off his mum!

do you know other mum? I would make sure she knows about that as is awful behaviour. Can you send her a note via nursery? I would want to know wouldn't you?

Yes, I would want to know. I'm not sure of who the mother is, I can find out though as DD's best friend also uses this childminder.

VS you need to do something about this before he is seriously traumatised. I mean fgs what else does she do to him as well as making him sit in a high chair?

He's the same age as DS as well, so nearly 4.
I'll be seeing DDs friend tonight when they get back from their trip so I might invite her over and see how she feels about the CM.

Yes that was my next q - how does your friend rate he? She could be someone who comes across well to adults but is a bitch to the children when alone with them...

if taht had been me I'd have found it hard to keep my mouth shut. In a good mood I might have jokingly said something to the boy like "I bet your mum makes lovely spaghetti bolognese" just to try to make him feel better. in a less good mood I might have said something to her "I'm sure eating in the kitchen won't do any harm"

I did this once one a mum and grandmother were laughing at their little girl in ELC because she wanted a fireman's outfit not a fairy. I was so stunned at their meanness I couldn't let it go. I'm not usually the gobby type.

none of which helps you but if you can think of a gentle way to bring it up with the mum I think I would. you might have to deal with her being defensive - shooting the messenger and all that.

tbh sounds like cm wanted to sit infront of the telly in her cream carpetted sitting room while giving this child lunch. old trout.who on earth expects to feed any child anything on a cream carpet.[judgey emoticon]

I'd say something, I'd want to know if it was mine.

She reminds me of a taxi driver who told me to keep Tink's shoes of the seat and not to let her touch anything because he had white interiors in his car. I did ask him how he expected to keep his car clean when he works from the main clubbing street

hatwoman, I did want to say something tbh, and if it had been a child I knew well enough to talk to I would have done but they were quite far in front of us so I would have had to say something quite loud for her to hear anyway.

Why would a childminder have a cream carpet ffs.

On the other hand, what mother in her right mind would choose a childminder who had a cream carpet?????

Mine has wooden floors and I think leather sofas, all easy to clean. I do have to wonder about SIL who has cream carpets, cream rugs and cream sofas. I'd never really thought about it before.

poor little boy, he might go home and start telling mummy what he does and does not like to eat because he is scared of the (mental)childminder.

OP, I am sure you could address your concerns to/through the nursery staff or if you want anonimity, through the local council (assuming she is legally registered?)or ofsted - she does not sound fit for the job - even on a bad day you might THINK those things, but you don't SAY them, and certainly not to the CHILD

Ah, hadn't thought of that loobey, I know the teaching assistant out-of-school as she has come to dd's parties with her daughter. I might mention it to her.

I agree with the comment above 'what parent would choose a cm with a cream carpet' - no sane cm would have one!!

I'm going to speak to the TA and find out if he has older brothers or sisters that I might see his mum pick up.

What a total cow this woman sounds! I can't bear the thought of that little boy being humilitated and shouted at. She should be reported. You are SO not being unreasonable.
