i think now for me though the situation is becoming more annoying. his mother is getting older and if she needs help it will be me that drives to help her, think it's just a confidence thing.

we lived in london for years and never needed a car, here we do though.

I know! I have failed it recently! @Marla

But I keep trying. I have accepted the fact that it's pretty pathetic to just say 'Sorry, I don't drive'.

I want to be able to hire a car on holiday or share the burden of heavy duty shopping trips with DH or take an elderly relative to hospital etc etc. I want to be a grown up. And I find men who want to be grown up sexy, too

NotCod · 30/09/2008 17:32

Now if I were post on here about finding unattractive a man who had decided not learn to use a washing machine, would all those who are currently getting upset about non-drivers get annoyed with me too?

What about if the man said he had made the decision on ecological grounds? Suppose he's figured out all the work arounds, using a laundry service (meaning you would always have to live in an urban area) or hand-washing things. Suppose most of the time it works out reasonably well, but every couple of months or so something of his absolutely has to go in the washing machine, but he thinks that will be fine too because I have a washing machine and I know how to use it so I can do it for him, for goodness sake, I would be being awkward and annoying if I refused. So there's really no reason for him to learn, and anyway he's too busy and hasn't got the time.

Really, how attractive would this man be to most of you?

DarrellRivers · 30/09/2008 17:36

I think it goes both ways, after I hved carried out a bit of very masterful parallel parking into a minute space I always get admiring looks

Swedes · 30/09/2008 17:37

I'd be worried if a man couldn't drive and liked riding bitch on a motorbike.

MrsMattie · 30/09/2008 17:38

If a man truly doesn't drive on "green' grounds, I would say 'good on you'. he had better be bloody green, though, and not just lazy or unwilling to get stuck into learnign something difficult or, urm, a tight arse.

Men who can't use washing machines aren't sexy to me, either. I don't like those men who sit scratching their arses all evening boasting about how they wouldn't even know how to turn the tumble drier on.

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 30/09/2008 17:38

YANBU - have not read the whole nine pages but totally agree. WOuld go further an include men who can't fix things as well - the surest way for Dh to earn my admiration is to fix something - anything- that's just what men do . Could never dnacy a weedy type - happy to be friends with but never actually fancy.

ahundredtimes · 30/09/2008 17:39

He sounds annoying Bran.

onebatmother · 30/09/2008 17:39

they have very small feet so they can't operate the pedals. OR, very teeny-weeny legs and can't reach them.

MrsMattie · 30/09/2008 17:40

Let's face it - a lot of women still find some characteristics of the Alpha Male attractive. So shoot us.

ahundredtimes · 30/09/2008 17:40

UQD can you please confirm this is the case?

ahundredtimes · 30/09/2008 17:40

re OBM's feet and legs etc

Liking the name Mrs Guy.

I don't know why but I've always found the sight of my current man driving very attractive.

My dad 'stopped' driving about 30 years ago after a near miss and it caused many a huge barney between him and my mum.
