If they live somewhere where public transport is fantastic then there's no reason to drive. If the cost of drving lessons is prohibitive then that's a reason. If they have a medical reason of course it's not just about lazyness but 99% of the people I know who can'/won't drive it's down to them being idle and expecting their partner to ferry them about!!! (Excepting childless friends in London who really have no need).

Just talking from experience...

bran · 30/09/2008 15:36

Tamarto, I can tell you for definite that the only reason that my DH doesn't learn is because he is lazy and is perfectly happy to be chauffeured by me instead. It is bloody annoying, and unfairly limiting for me as when we move to Dublin next year we will have to live near public transport or else I will spend my entire life fetching and carrying him and ds.

Skramble · 30/09/2008 15:37

Ha ha my partner would love a scooter, proper 1960's style, oh well perhaps he is just a big wuss .

peacelily · 30/09/2008 15:38

Mee too Scramble but when I started working at a place where public transport was a real hassle to get there for 7am and it became e neccessity I worked extra, found the cash, had lessons and bought a car.

Needs must

NotCod · 30/09/2008 15:38

What if neither partner can drive? Dh and I had been together for over 20 years before he got his licence. I have a medical reason not to drive but he simply didn't want to. I was fine with that. Wouldn't say public transport is fantastic but it exists and he is fit. He learnt to drive when he needed it for work.

NotCod · 30/09/2008 15:42

nods.

brimfull · 30/09/2008 15:44

just think of all the places that aren't covered by public transport you're missing

lovely country lanes with olde worlde pubs
driving across the moors dodging the sheep

saint2shoes · 30/09/2008 15:44

so if a man can drive but has to stop, due to medical reasons, he is not deemed unatractive
(decides to alow god cod to answer her before she gets all narky)

Botbot · 30/09/2008 15:45

I'd better warn my db about this. Recently divorced, can't drive.

Lives in London though - less important there I suppose.

MorningTownRide · 30/09/2008 15:46

NotCod · 30/09/2008 15:47

EffiePerine · 30/09/2008 15:50

well neither of us can drive

live in London and no need (and too lazy) to learn

DH is planning to learn when we move - tho he has driven stuff like landrovers on private property

I've had a few lessons but am definite danger due to not being able to tell left from right in a hurry and not being able to keep car in a straight line

may learn at some point

was this inspired by Mr May?

Dh can drive a tractor. And he has a motorbike (not a scooter). Does that count?

We're not veggies either so do we get a few extra points?

EffiePerine · 30/09/2008 15:55

yes DH can drive a tractor

I can't

coppertop · 30/09/2008 15:56

I've got the Wurzels in my head now.
