Anyone who has a need of car transportation and relies on others because:
a) they can't be arsed to learn or
b) it's scary

is very irratating.

It seems weak willed and the depence on others is unattractive.

UNLESS YOU HAVE A CERTIFIED MEDICAL REASON, PHYSICAL OR MENTAL, AND THIS PRECLUDES THOSE THAT CHOOSE NOT TO DRIVE BECUASE THEY HAVE NO NEED. OR RIDE A BIKE. OR USE THE BUS. OR TRAIN. THOSE ARE OK. OK?

EffiePerine · 30/09/2008 15:58

I'll fight you for him Riven, car refusnik or not

To paraphrase Snaf: Loads of my exes could drive. But that was about all they had going for them...

Mercy · 30/09/2008 15:59

Dh has been driving since he was 15 - does that make him super attractive?

I can think of loads of men who can drive and are hideous.

Jeremy Clarkson for one.

Im sorry but i couldnt date a man who couldnt drive.
I dont understand why people cant drive IMHO its one of the most important skills you can have (especially as a woman).

Anyway I'd hate to have to pick up my bloke, take him places etc.
My CM's son is VERY attractive, runs his own business etc but he cant drive which is bizarre. His mum or gf pick him up and take him places or he gets taxis!!

zippitippitoes · 30/09/2008 16:03

but if i go somewhere with bf we take turns who drives/whose car we go in

noddyholder · 30/09/2008 16:07

What is freaky about it?It has never stopped me doing anything ever and I never ask others to ferry me around.Dp drives but we rarely use the car as we walk loads and i love public transport.

coppertop · 30/09/2008 16:07

But if everyone drove then surely there'd be no room left on the roads?

Us non-drivers are doing you all a favour really.

edam · 30/09/2008 16:09

hear, hear, coppertop! (Am having lessons though, so perhaps I don't really count. Can I claim credit for 20 years of non-driving, though?)

saint2shoes · 30/09/2008 16:13

Sorry but to me independence is being able to get in the car and get to work, get to my parents in an emergency, drive my children to hospital when they are sick, get there myself in 5 minutes when ds was rushed there without me, being able to visit friends when I want, pop to the shops when I want, get dc's to childminders, etc etc.

Not driving is your choice, it just wouldnt suit me.
Maybe if the UK were better equipped for other things people would use their cars less

noddyholder · 30/09/2008 16:24

There is a flip side of feeling incredibly free without a car.My dp thinks he has to drive just because he can in some instances. If we a re going to londoon or a weekend away i prefer the train because the break starts immediately with magazines and coffees etc.I love getting on bus to town and back no parking and traffic.I agree that something should be done to curb the number of cars and make it easier to get around without.

Mercy · 30/09/2008 16:25

Taxis perform the same service though (for crises that is)

Actually, a mate of dh's has a car share with 2 other families which is a good idea.

They also walk, cycle or use public transport as much as possible - they even go to Europe by train if they have a holiday abroad (with 2 dc under 6!!)

mosschops30 · 30/09/2008 16:36

Madness, I'd rather fly but then I am extremely eco unfriendly
