AIBU to smuggle bottles of water and Maltesers into the cinema tomorrow?

...rather than paying £400 for popcorn and cokes at the counter. Everyone smuggles right?

There is a big sign I noticed last time I went stating a zero tolerance for taking stuff in that you didn't buy there. I think they have a damn cheek and if their prices were at least reasonable not £3.40 for a popcorn I would buy it there.

No one's looking in my massive handbag without a fight but they seriously aren't going to ask me are they?

I am taking DS and his mates for this birthday treat, don't REALLY want to have to scuffle with the girl on the door!!!

Maybe they suck 'em....

MuggleBorn · 12/09/2008 20:28

Tis no more noisy than popcorn or nachos. What about those people who slurp on a straw?

cheesychips · 12/09/2008 20:37

Nachos??????
It's 2 hours people, you are not going to starve.

Vulgar · 12/09/2008 20:39

Kettle chips sound like crunching roof tiles

lottiejenkins · 12/09/2008 20:43

When we went to the cinema last week while away in Bristol on a brak, i bought a bag of sweets before we left to go away and then we stopped at a tescos express and bought our drinks there........ i REFUSE to pay
cinema prices.............

Furball · 12/09/2008 20:43

I've asked for and been given a cup of tap water in two different cineworld cinemas. Their sweet popcorn is yuck and they don't sell anyone elses, so thats an easy choice. Sweets with rustly wrappers in pocket.

Kbear · 12/09/2008 20:48

Eating in the cinema is normal practice, why are you shocked? We won't starve but it adds to the fun chomping on stuff until you feel sick, especially a bag of revels or something, you just can't stop until you feel sick

In the Old Days it used to be smoking and snogging and now it's Maltesers, a girl has to get her kicks somewhere!

MuggleBorn · 12/09/2008 20:49

Oh bravo, Kbear.

cheesychips · 12/09/2008 20:51

Maltesers and snogging yes please. Nachos and crisps nooooooooo.

Or maybe middle age is sneaking up on me

Janos · 12/09/2008 22:08

YANBU, the price for drinks/sweets at the cinema now is ridiculous! Costs enough to get in as it is.

Janos · 12/09/2008 22:09

Oh, smoking and snogging...now that sounds fun!

Kbear · 12/09/2008 22:12

Remember how it was smokers on the left... like that made a difference to the poor buggers on the right that weren't smoking ha ha

I remember going to see Footloose and smoking a whole pack of ten JPS with my mate - just because we could.

God I loved smoking in the cinema. And in planes.

(actually, even then it felt very, erm, reckless, smoking in an enormous airborne explosive. And I used to get absolutely trashed and flirt with the trapped men.)

I'd no idea you weren't allowed to take your own to the cinema! Last time I went we made home-made popcorn and took a thermos of squash and I was hoping to make it into a bit of a family ritual

debzmb62 · 12/09/2008 22:55

i always take my own stuff in a back pack its not against the law they cannot actually stop you they can ask you not to but can,t stop you come on one time i took my kids and grandchilren and it cost me nearly 40 quid just to get in then about 30 odd for snacks etc never again i went to see mama mia with them last week and orange wednesdy still cost 30 quid to get in and about 10quid for snacks and drinks from tesco better i think eh and we took some back home with us !

WendyWeber · 12/09/2008 22:57

You can take what you like in for me KBear, just as long as you don't rustle, crunch or glug in someone's ear

WendyWeber · 12/09/2008 22:58

(This is why I never go the cinema any more - rustlers, crunchers & gluggers detect my intolerance & sit right behind me )

debzmb62 · 12/09/2008 23:02

although they say no to hot food being taken in i think !!!

FairLadyRantALot · 12/09/2008 23:03

pssssssssssstttttt...I always smuggle food and drink in...I wait till it's dark in te cinema before anyone is allowed anything!
Other trick..take Aero MInt/Galaxy/mathese big bags in..tehy sell tose in cinemas...who would know and be ablew to tell if you bought them there or not
they also have bottled water, etc...

must admit...we have never been checked...but always do try to have the stuff in a reasonable si\zed bag, or share betwween a few ( covered up as Kids bagppacks )

45Sez · 17/03/2012 20:14

My son of 15yrs has just goes with a friend and they search their bags everytime! He hides his own sweets under stuff!
They went Tonight though they wouldn't let them in unless they left their bags behind the counter! What a cheek, they paid £8 each to get in,Why should they then have to pay £7 odd for a tub of pick & mix sweets @ £3.50 for a coke!Who can afford that! Sad

Furball · 17/03/2012 20:22

Sainburys/tescos sell the same pick n mix bags - i buy like 5 chocolate mice from there and then my own delights to take in.

Always buy a cup of tea for £2 as a token gesture

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 17/03/2012 20:23

My DP and I went on Wednesday and smuggled in a Mcdonalds Grin

We had been rushing around all morning and were starving so managed to fit 2 burgers, fries and 2 milkshakes in my handbag! I did feel a bit guilty but the price of the food in the cinema is extortion!

TheOriginalNutcracker · 17/03/2012 20:25

They never check at ours. When i go with my mate we take either mini bottles of wine and straws or ready mixed vod and orange in cans lol. Well classy.

springydaffs · 17/03/2012 20:25

I had no idea you couldn't do this ie bring your own stuff!

as for the cinema who did that to your son 45, I'm speechless

ledkr · 17/03/2012 20:25

I always do it and i save the 3d glasses too. Rip off place, the staff at ours look all apologetic when they tell you the price Grin

Charliefarlie1192 · 17/03/2012 20:26
