I know they may have been up all night with a newborn, depressed, etc etc.

But really, I do wonder when I see a flashy subaru 4x4, child immaculately dressed and the mother has an expensive coat on, over pj's. How long does it take to put a pair of jeans on ffs?

I shit you not, I once saw one of the offenders in pj's and heels.

Or is this some high fashion thing I just don't get?

OP posts:
zippitippitoes · 11/09/2008 14:02

but pjs dont actually lok mjuch different from clothes do they

TrinityRhino · 11/09/2008 14:03

seriously feature??

what is the difference ?
Tehy micht sleep in those joggers, how do you know?
but just because they dont look like sleepwear, thats ok?

Feature · 11/09/2008 14:04

They do if they are pink with love hearts and sleeping beauty on the front ? NO?

I don't have these btw.

Feature · 11/09/2008 14:05

and they are thinner....

unless they are fleecy of course..

No, sorry it just looks wrong.

Noway can you not have 2 mins to pop into something a little bit smarter....

2beornot2be · 11/09/2008 14:05

I must admit I sleep in jogging bottoms and not Pj's Joggers and vest tops so much better

I dont know why people think its un hygenic as the chances are most Pj's have been thrown on

TrinityRhino · 11/09/2008 14:05

2beornototbe

I got the tip from anthes turner (dont like the rest of the crap she spouted in that program but loved that tip)

I try to just do it in the house but I have actually had dd2 have a little accident in tesco and I was abloe to just reach up, free hair and voila

Overmydeadbody · 11/09/2008 14:06

CLothes are for covering our bodies for modesty and against the elements.

What the hell does it matter what kind of clothes they are or whether they are conventionally seen as nightwear or daywear?

It doesn't bloody matter, ffs.

Irrelevant. Pointless. Won't make a difference next year, in ten years or in a hundred years what someone wore to drop their kid off at school

Anna8888 · 11/09/2008 14:06

Blu - for some parents, school drop-offs (and especially) pick-ups are a daily opportunity to parade their ever-increasing wealth and power...

So you come up to school just out of the hairdresser and with several designer bags on your arm where you have a pre-pick-up rendez-vous with all your pre-school age children decked out in new clothes (outfitter of choice: Bonpoint) and their nanny(ies) (for which there is a complex pecking order of nationalities). You will have course have double-parked your 4x4 (pref blocking entrance to private road in which school is located) if you are unfortunate enough not to have a chauffeur (even better: bodyguards).

Grrrrrr. But this really is only a small minority of French parents. Most parents are not French and therefore have nothing to prove (we're foreign and therefore by definition more exotic)

zippitippitoes · 11/09/2008 14:06

smarter? that is a whole new complaint

anyway how come they bother getting out of the 4x4

that is surely unnecessary

Quattrocento · 11/09/2008 14:07

here's a previous thread

Another thing that really surprises me about this habit (apart of course from the fact that people do the school run in their pyjamas) is the sheer inefficiency of it all. I mean you get half-dressed, do the school run, then you get home and get washed and dressed properly.

Feature · 11/09/2008 14:07

No it does not matter tbh.

I just find it a wee bit strange. But that is just me.....I won't even go into garden with mine on. Or hang my undies out.

weirdo

zippitippitoes · 11/09/2008 14:08

you go back home and get into bed

TrinityRhino · 11/09/2008 14:08

maybe I do have 2 mins but I dont have anything smarter AND clean when I do this

Also why should I think that to drive for 5 mins, kiss dd1 bye and then drive 5 mins home I have to look smart

I'm not actually conversing with anyonI never thought I may be pffending, I thought people may think I'm odd but the knickers accidenlt left in hair, large leopard print hair and general demeanor mean they think I'm odd anyway....

2beornot2be · 11/09/2008 14:08

LOL its an excellent tip lol I will start doing it myself me thinks.

Feature · 11/09/2008 14:08

what does it matter? = pink, love hearts and sleeping princess ones look weirdy.

IMO

Overmydeadbody · 11/09/2008 14:09

Feature, well yes, but that is just a matter of taste!

Grown women shouldn't own pjs with cartoon characters on them in the first place

Anna8888 · 11/09/2008 14:10

There's also a bunch of mothers who do morning drop-offs in their running gear... all perfectly coiffed of course.

Overmydeadbody · 11/09/2008 14:11

My 21 yro old blonde gorgeous sister picked me up from tesco the other day wearing pjs, uggs and an oversized grey jumper with holes in it. She didn't get out of the car. So what?

actually they would be cool, not the princess though

I am actually on the look out for a velvet coat to wear over my jammies on the chool run

anyone passing one on?

Overmydeadbody · 11/09/2008 14:12

Anna I seriously couldn't handle that. If I turn up at DS's school in my running gear I am suitable huffing and puffing, with a red face and sweat unattractively blotching my clothes.

DrNortherner · 11/09/2008 14:12

Anna I drop off every FRiday in running gear. I know it winds loads of the other mums up!

TrinityRhino · 11/09/2008 14:13

what is this running gear you speak of?

CrushWithEyeliner · 11/09/2008 14:13

I did this when I was staying with my relatives in Italy and another mother came up to me with a vial of Rescue Remedy lol

I now drop DD in PJ's (always with a long belted cardi or coat over and nice shoes) all the time. Sorry if it offends however I am really busy have a backbone, confidence and also a fab body so anything looks good

It's not a "state" school thing whoever said that btw quite the reverse....
