To think mums shouldn't do drop at nursery in their pyjamas?

I know they may have been up all night with a newborn, depressed, etc etc.

But really, I do wonder when I see a flashy subaru 4x4, child immaculately dressed and the mother has an expensive coat on, over pj's. How long does it take to put a pair of jeans on ffs?

I shit you not, I once saw one of the offenders in pj's and heels.

Or is this some high fashion thing I just don't get?

I'm not trying to make a statement
I'm just trying to get dd1 to school

DrNortherner · 11/09/2008 13:53

at TRinity Rhino running out of clothes. Us mums should take more care of ourselves me thinks.

I'd rather ds go out in his PJ's than me! But then I have been known to tall ds to take his coat off in the rain so I can put it over my head to prevent my hair from frizzing.

I am a terrible mother

francagoestohollywood · 11/09/2008 13:54

I thought that the trick of taking a bath/shower the night before was widely accepted, I do it all the time

Overmydeadbody · 11/09/2008 13:54

Yes of course YABVU.

Who are you to dictate what other people should and shouldn't do? In fact, who is anyone?

We are all free (supposedly) to do whatever the hell we like.

2beornot2be · 11/09/2008 13:55

Just because people are wearing clothes does not mean they have washed

I don't know why you allow it to bother you so much

niceglasses · 11/09/2008 13:55

In reality there is no difference btwn a pair of pjs and a scruffy pair of leggings and a baggy t-shirt with a fleece shuved over the top and I see plenty of them.

(and it still don't bother me 'cos I don't look that much better meself)

Blu · 11/09/2008 13:56

Is it a 'I am a sahm and a ymmy mummy at that' statement? As in 'I am certinly not dressed to zoom straight to the office, and will be going back home for a cup of coffee, sex with the garden landscaper, and then take 2 hours to dress myself' ?

Anna - what other issues do you encounter over scool drop offs?

I think we should be told...s'il vous plait!

TrinityRhino · 11/09/2008 13:56

northener, your not a terrible mother at all
I dont have hair that goes frizzy ort I may do the same if it bothered me that much
I have issues with self esteem
I should put my needs up there with the rest of the family and eventually I will
but you know even if I had many choices of winderful outfits...If I wanted to wear my jammies I bloody well would

francagoestohollywood · 11/09/2008 13:56

Oh they would section them in Milan as well Quattro. I miss my devonian schoolruns.

Overmydeadbody · 11/09/2008 13:57

I wear pj bottoms at work almost every day too, because they are more comfortable than anything else.

They are clean ones, just for work, and not many people actually see me in them.

And surely people don't actually believe that you are dirty if you don't have a shower every day?

TrinityRhino · 11/09/2008 13:57

I alos use dd2's clean knickers to put my hair up in a ponytail to clean if I can;t find a hairband

does that bother you too?

jezzemx · 11/09/2008 13:58

It's all the rage here. They seem to favour check print in the North East.
Lazy arses.
I've even seen them walking around the local shopping street wearing them. The older generation look on in shock

could it possibly be that some of them mothers are running late and its quicker for them to drop kids off and get dressed without screaming dc's running around

TrinityRhino · 11/09/2008 13:59

some people actuallly do think that overmydeadbody

some even shower morning and night or else they think they are dirty

TrinityRhino · 11/09/2008 13:59

nope its fine

Kewcumber · 11/09/2008 13:59

not taking a shower in the morning doesn't make you "unclean" (unless your sheets are filthy and your job the day before involves rolling in mud).

And besides how close do you get to their uncleanliness?!

My mum used to regularly pick me up from nightclubs as a teen wearing her nighty and coat (she was banned from getting out of the car by me though).

QuintessentialShadow · 11/09/2008 14:00

I have only once met a woman in a pj outside the house.

She came out of my local post office in south west london. I did a double take, it was an old friend from norway I had not seen for at least 5 years. I did not know she was in London. She was highly pregnant. Been ditched by her partner and kicked out of their flat, it turned out he was already married but living apart. She was picking up her benefits. She lived in a homeless b&b in Acton. Had not bothered getting dressed. Had no money to return home. Could not bear the shame of it.

Such a change to the happy, beautiful fun loving girl who had just finnished high school last time I saw her back home.

She gave birth alone at the hospital, in a foreign country, and took her newborn back to the B&B for homeless people in Acton.

Ack. Life. It deals blows. PJ or not. Bur for sure no 4x4.

Kewcumber · 11/09/2008 14:00

cross posted there with OMDB!

jezzemx · 11/09/2008 14:00

I should add that it is mostly late teen girls that are setting the trend. Maybe they have seen it on the catwalk and we should all be following there style tips

Janos · 11/09/2008 14:00

Now, I do have a friend who has done this from time to time. She told me about it.

She had 3 DCs under 5 though so even getting out the door on time was an achievement, never mind getting dressed!

Overmydeadbody · 11/09/2008 14:00

The world has gone mad Trinity in that case, especially as so many people probably never even break into a sweat in the course of a normal day.

Shock horror - even DS doesn't have a bath or shower every day and still smells lovely.

Feature · 11/09/2008 14:01

I have seen this happen also.

I was shopping one day at the local shops and I am thinking now where have I seen those PJ's before... they were the same as mine!!

It's not great. put some joggers on or something.

PJ's in street!! WTF nextm I ask you?

2beornot2be · 11/09/2008 14:01

jezzemx · 11/09/2008 14:02
