to keep a dvd that my 3 year old accidently stole from a supermarket today?

I was shopping at a major supermarket today and had agreed to let dd have a dvd for 5.99. She was holding it in the trolley.

Basically I forgot to give to the check out person to swipe so we didn't pay for it.
I only realised this after I had strapped my other 2 children in to the car and was lifting dd out of the trolley and saw it on her knee.
I didn't want to have to go all the way back in.
I feel a bit guilty, but then again I must have spent thousands of pounds at this shop over the years.

What do you think. AIBU to keep it? Is it stealing? Do I worry too much?

if its not greggs it doesn't count. - don't pass your fake sausage rolls off here lady

expatinscotland · 13/08/2008 00:02

I mean, it just so happened the alarm didn't go off, too.

expatinscotland · 13/08/2008 00:03

I miss Gregg's. We don't have one here. We have these two bakeries, but I think their sausage rolls suck.

SparklyGothKat · 13/08/2008 00:04

no not greggs! Was from Co-op on the way to the farm lol!!

SparklyGothKat · 13/08/2008 00:05

I would have taken the DVD back btw if I was still on store property.

Tortington · 13/08/2008 00:06

ooooooooooh "the co-op" bet you buy free range too - next you will be growing rosemary and thyme

SparklyGothKat · 13/08/2008 00:06

SparklyGothKat · 13/08/2008 00:06

I have some mint in the garden, does that count pmsl!!!

LookattheLottie · 13/08/2008 00:07

Cluttered, if you couldn't find a trace for the money and looked into it as much as you could, then keep it. I would. But then, me and my dd have no morals, we're criminals doncha know

expatinscotland · 13/08/2008 00:07

hey, stop dissing Co-Op! it's all we've got out here but this dump of a Somerfield. Co-op bought them out, though. Hurray!

I've got mint, thyme, chives and curly parsley.

My dad's side of the family were farmers and ranchers.

Tortington · 13/08/2008 00:08

mint totally counts!

SparklyGothKat · 13/08/2008 00:08

I like our local co-op, very friendly staff, and I know where everything is. Post office lady is lovely too, but they are closing it

Thank you LATL. I think DP and I must be criminals as well because I should definitely be feeling guiltier than I do, judging from a lot of the posts on this topic!

expatinscotland · 13/08/2008 00:17

nite, custy. i'm off to try to get some kip as well.

not going to happen well after watching that fucking 'Ghosthunters' and hearing those ghost voices.

Honest Mistake: to leave the store without realising your dd was holding something that hadn't been paid for.

Stealing: to realise the dvd hadn't been paid for, but decide to leave anyway, rather than going back inside to return dvd or pay for it.

Morally Dubious and just plain wrong: to return the dvd to the shop next time you go in even though your children have now already watched it.

Making the best of a bad situation: go into the shop tomorrow and speak to manager. Explain what happened, and pay for dvd.
