To be bloody delighted MAGA is dying

Just that really! 🥂

(for the record I’m not ultra left, would probably be a moderate Republican in the USA, but I cannot STAND the bully boys in MAGA and their hideous lack of accountability)

Delighted for the USA and it’s such a tonic to see everyone celebrating.

Ossoff is terrific. Not super left, by the way. Georgia ia a very purple state. Newsom will not play well. He comes off poorly.

there’s quite a lot of good candidates. Also statistically the economy actually does better under Democrats. The best run states in the US are Democratic run, with the best outcomes for education and health care.

I haven't seen much of Vance, he does seem a bit wooden though. His personality needs to come through more.

His personality is repellent.

For example, he lied (and admitted he had lied) about Haitian refugees stealing people's pets and eating them.

He talked about Democratic women as childless cat ladies

He opposes abortion and reproductive rights even in cases of rape or incest, has suggested that women stick out abusive marriages

In the last few weeks, he defended the ad by Ohio gubernatorial candidate, Vivek Ramaswamy, in which the estranged mother of Ramaswamy's opponent called her daughter (Amy Acton) a liar about her background. The background she was not lying about: the mother married a man who was found guilty in court of raping Acton at the age of 12 (after having raped his biological daughter) and abusing her brother. The children were removed from the mother and have had no contact with her since. The stepfather fled the state and the mother went with him and stayed with him until his death.
While campaigning in Ohio, Vance defended the commercial, stating that "Vivek Ramaswamy had the audacity to run a TV commercial which calls it out like it is, and calls Amy Acton a liar," while urging Republicans to "stop whining about an advertisement and go win the race"

And that's without going into his flipflop from Democrat to Republican when Peter Thiel bought him. Before that he referred to Trump as "America's Hitler.'

The more his personality comes through the less favourably he polls...

Yup. Current approval rating is approaching -30..

Being Trump's VP was political suicide for him tbh. He looks like the sniveling little weasel, hiding behind the bully and sniggering, out of a sense of self-preservation (hoping the bully wont turn their ire on him, which Trump has done so, from time to time).

He could have been a force, but optics have not been kind, and he's not going to win hearts and minds of a country that already cant stand him.

I don't think most people could name the Republican leader either.

Ok ive not googled.

Im going for Chuck Schumer for D and Mitch Mcdonnell for R (assuming he is alive...ive not seen any update on him).

I don't disagree with you, but you could write all that an more for Trump.

Trump, though, has charisma in spades.

JD Vance, despite his many achievements despite his background, just reads as a bit of a loser. Inauthentic, unsure of himself, desperate for Trump's approval (fails to get it) and an unengaging speaker.

His little red face when Trump refused to agree with a claim Vance had made to the press the previous day, that Trump would endorse him in 2028, was a sight to behold. Absolutely humiliated, and he deserves it!

He stands for nothing other than furthering his own career and doing the bidding of Peter Thiel. I mean he's gone from describing Trump as 'America's Hitler' and himself as a 'never Trump guy', to being his biggest toady, and now (predictably) trying to distance himself from him now that Trump's star is on the wane. Definitely a snivelling weasel.

InterestedDad37 · Today 00:05

I want Trump's downfall to be sudden, spectacular, humiliating, and involve imprisonment. And all his lackeys turning on him, and spilling the beans.

TooBigForMyBoots · Today 00:06

Trump may have lost the plot.

Trump is a probable senile, serial sex offender with no plot whatsoever. Putin is the overall winner from Trump's presidency. That's why he bought it.🤷‍♀️

Musk is making millions from his presidency. That's why he bought it too. See DOGE. He'll re-locate to China, Russia, NK, Space, Mars, as soon as it's profitable for him to do so.

Netenyahu is milking him like a cow. Getting as much as he can before Trump crashes and burns.

The GOP needs to deal with all this shit before they can hope to rebuild.

I am quite excited. This is the blue wave, followed by a blue tsunami, that I hoped would occur in 2024. It's so intense in magnitude. It makes me hopeful for the future, because the world has been on a dark path for a long time now.

But you can celebrate the humbling of MAGA without necessarily expecting - or even wanting - a Democratic win in two years. There will be plenty of centrist and centre right Republicans celebrating this too, because hopefully it will mean MAGA releasing their death grip on the party. And anyone who wants to see Putin weakened should be celebrating too. As should anyone relieved to see Elon Musk and the tech bro billionaires like him shown that they can spend unprecedented sums supporting MAGA candidates and it still won’t be enough to out spend democracy.

Edited

Yes! Fuck you Elon. Fuck you Vivek. I’m dancing in delight here!

Without Googling OP, name the leader of the US Democratic Party.

It works differently in the US. There isn’t a single party leader right now.

It is good, but it's a bit depressing that it seems to be purely about prices going up. Harris lost in 2024 cos of inflation, and now Trump has lost due to inflation. It's true that he caused the inflation with his war, but a bit sad that this is what it takes to get people to reject the Trump regime when there are many other good reasons for doing so.

Harris lost because she was a poor candidate and failed to differentiate herself from an unpopular President Biden.

Why Kamala Harris lost to Donald Trump

The vice-president failed to make the case that she would be different from her boss, President Joe Biden.

Oh, I agree. Trump makes my skin crawl with revulsion but it's undeniable that a lot of people see something in him. Very few people, other than the financial puppet masters seem to see anything in Vance. He's utterly charmless, at best.

I also think it might not sit well with the people who aren't racists that he has an Indian wife but sucks up to the massive racists, never defending her, or with the actual racists that he has an Indian wife.

He's also now trying to walk a fine line. Staying ingratiated with those voters who love Trump while simultaneously trying to distance himself from this disaster of an administration.

Pretty sure Mitch McConnell is undead rather than dead. At least, he's been doing a remarkably convincing impersonation of a shambling zombie for years.

There are plenty of people who support maga who are high iq and have gone to universities. They support him because it makes them rich.

I listened to an interview with a young Dem voter about the speculations that Kamala Harris might run again in 2028. She said young people just wouldn't vote in that case. I really do hope the Democrats have had a big reality check and won't make the same mistakes again.

Without Googling OP, name the leader of the US Democratic Party.

US parties don’t have one leader. Each party has a leader in the House and the Senate and other leadership roles at state level. In the lead up to a presidential election each party will select a candidate for president. None of those people are the leader of the party though. It’s not the UK and the political system and parties are completely different because of the primary system.

Quite a bit of Biden's unpopularity came from rising cost of living, and people didn't think that Harris would be able to impact it, so again, it's economics. Not sure if you read the article that you linked or if you just thought the headline refuted me, but it actually explains this.

I've learnt this today! It's also amusing to see the smartarse hoisted by their own petard.
