To be bloody delighted MAGA is dying

Just that really! 🥂

(for the record I’m not ultra left, would probably be a moderate Republican in the USA, but I cannot STAND the bully boys in MAGA and their hideous lack of accountability)

Delighted for the USA and it’s such a tonic to see everyone celebrating.

Can I ask I thought Rubio was a contender for the white house. Has he fallen from favour?

You know bullying culture is not unique or specific to the MAGA club, right? Some of the most horrendous bullying I have seen and experienced has come from so-called enlightened and progressive individuals and employers.

FoxtrotPapa · Yesterday 22:21

MAGA is dying on its arse. The same will happen here when people realise Deform have been lining their own pockets and couldn’t give 2 hoots about them.

No, he's second favorite to be the next Republican nominee, after Vance.

I think it'll be DeSantis or Tucker Carlson.

People get so happy without actually understanding or knowing anything about US politics.

It was the same when they were all cheering for Kamala in 2024. Look how that turned out. Trump may have lost the plot. But it is very likely that whichever presidential candidate they put up at the next race will be less repellent than the Democrat nominee. It’s a shame actually, that the democrats cannot find a decent candidate, otherwise it would make for an interesting contest.

11AndCounting · Yesterday 22:34

I don't think MAGA is dying, FWIW.

The vote swing is largely down to economic factors, largely resulting from the Iran war which Trump started contrary to the platform he ran on.

The American right is just as radicalized as it has been over the last decade or so (in fact, it has become even more so).

They aren't enough to win an election on their own but they can probably crown the next Republican candidate and, in the right economic conditions, plenty of floating voters will vote for the Republican candidate, just as they did 2 years ago.

The Dems failure to put forward a decent candidate in the last few cycles has been astounding but, looking at the current favorites to the 2028 nominee of either party, the Dems seem to have a much stronger pool.

WarmHiker · Yesterday 22:41

Which candidates are you seeing the pool who are strong?

Really - who is the stronger pool? Genuine question.

Hard agree with this assessment.

That’s your opinion. It’s an opinion that ignores the murders of innocent Americans on the streets, an illegal war, that an enormous number of Americans are in medical debt because they don’t have health insurance, they can’t pay their mortgages or buy groceries, and the president is in bed with Russia.

It also ignores the talent and hard work of the Democratic candidates that just swept the midterms. You can be as cynical as you want but this historic win, which sees Georgia run by Black women is about a hell of a lot more than gas prices.

It also ignores the talent and hard work of the Democratic candidates

Which talent should we watch over the pond?

And who will be the less repellent Republican nominee?

Did you see De Santis' last attempt at getting the nomination? There's a reason he dropped out pretty early on. He has difficulties interacting with people in a normal manner.

Shloopie · Yesterday 22:58

WarmHiker · Yesterday 22:00

Who told you MAGA was dying?

Trump will have his two full terms in office. At the next presidential election, the democrats will again put forward someone brain dead like Kamala Harris or some other fruitcake from the left. JD Vance will be the republican candidate and it will take no more than one slogan to wipe the floor clean with the democrats, like ‘Trump is for you, Kamala is for they/them’.

Democrats cannot seem to be able to find decent candidates. It will take more than this to finish off MAGA.

You think JD Vance will skip to the finish line? He's your idea of 'less repellent'? Ok.

11AndCounting · Yesterday 23:09

catspyjamas1 · Yesterday 22:44

Ossoff and Beshear stand out for me, ar the moment. Shapiro and Kelly I could see. I don't know about Newsom, AOC or Buttigieg (the latter two are good speakers but up against demographic headwinds). I think its too early for him, but Tallarico is worth a mention.

JD Vance is the current Republican favorite, but I think he's doomed (anti-charismatic, repeatedly humiliated by Trump). You've got Rubio or DeSantis next, but they've both crashed and burned before. Then its Tucker Carlson (I wouldn't rule it out, but am far from convinced).

knitnerd90 · Yesterday 23:12

I live in the US. The economy was the tipping point but people also didn’t like him bullying other countries, the blatant corruption, ICE killing people in the streets.

there aren’t any moderate republicans left, they’ve all been shoved out now. The Democrats are really a large and diverse coalition. And as for “woke nonsense” I’m proud that we’ve elected such a diverse slate. It’s a real rebuke to the absolutely vile racist and Islamophobic campaigning. We have our first Native woman governor and Senator too! (Possibly a second Native senator as Alaska has not been called).

Mississippi may even have elected its first Black senator since Reconstruction. He’s ahead by under 100 votes and they’re still counting.

WarmHiker · Yesterday 23:14

Along with Ossoff, Ocasio Cortez and Newsom are favourites. Enough said. The republican candidate can rest easy.

Why can’t the democrats find someone half good?

Shloopie · Yesterday 23:17

I don't think the Dems needs people's lamentations today over the 2028 pres race. They achieved what they needed to achieve yesterday and then some.

America will be in such a mess when the democrats gain control. They have behaved appallingly and been throwing tantrums for years now.

News Flash.🔥
America is a hot fucking mess right now! That's why they're rejecting the Republicans.

Regular Americans are suffering. Because of the real and culture wars of Putin, Netenyahu and the easily manipulated tantrums of Trump.🤷‍♀️

In the next 2 years of Trump as POTUS, I expect the USA, in particular the GOP, to be damaged even further.

Dweetfidilove · Yesterday 23:20

MAGA voters are starving, but they certainly aren't dying. Their brand of hate may be inactive right now, but it doesn't die that easily.
I remember how they rose to prominence, and once this euphoria wears off and they see JD Habibi swearing in the ' blacks, Muslims, gays and women'; their purpose will be reignited.

You do realise that every mid-term candidate Vance campaigned for lost their race, right? He can try to run, run, run like a little piggy away from the administration he's been a part of, but very few people view him favourably. He ranks particularly low with women.

I haven't seen much of Vance, he does seem a bit wooden though. His personality needs to come through more.

If Vance somehow ended up as the Republican nominee, I'd fancy Newsom's chances, and wouldn't rule out AOC by any means. I'd be less confident of either vs Rubio (but I'd still make it a coin toss between him and Newsom).

AOC has bags more charisma than Kamala or Hillary, fwiw, I just don't think progressive + female + Latina will likely fly against a candidate who can present themselves as moderate.

I'm struggling to think of a candidate who I don't think would wipe the floor with Vance. Maybe Kamala.

The more his personality comes through the less favourably he polls...
