Shocked that no one helped the girl on the train

14 year old SA in trained

I am being unreasonable in think people need to stop being so absorbed on their phones whilst out in public. It seems no one helpped this child whilst she was being raped because they were too busy on their phones.

Autistic girl, 14, 'sexually assaulted on train by Afghan migrants'

Baryalai Rahimi, 25, and Mirebadurahman Sadat, 29, are said to have spotted the runaway teenager at a station in rural Kent before following her onto the London-bound train on February 5.

What happened to this young girl is truly awful and nobody is to blame but the men that raped and assaulted her.

However, I am fed up with all this racist rubbish. I don't think that the rapists' country if origin is in any way relevant or contributory to the terrible trauma that she suffered and will likely continue to suffer as she struggles with what happened to her.

Let's focus on the perpetrators who are at fault and witness the UK law deal with them.

That poor girl!

I am so sorry for her that she was targeted by these preditory men and lacked the words to say no or to ask for help.

Why don't we each spend some time thinking about how we might support someone if we ever became aware of a similar situation in progress.

While we allow men who regard women as no more than shit on their shoes into the country of course it’s relevant.

Well obviously it is relevant, because if they had not been in the country then it would not have been possible for them to harm any women or girls.

It's racist to say Muslim men all regard women as something akin to a dog.

They don't exactly view them as equal

Well I did live over the road from a mosque. Yes they could have been people from other countries with a similar accent - you are correct. But those countries (Afghanistan for example) are also majority Muslim.

You treat me as if I'm a dogmatic, brain-dead Reform voter but I'm not. So let's hope that you're never on a jury either (I won't be because I'm an autistic women with chronic health problems). I'm actually left-wing most of the time. But I don't agree with letting so many men into this country who hate women.

So because you live opposite a mosque, you can identify Muslim men via their voices?

Maybe offer your services to MI5.

So your experience is absolutely nothing like my own then ? Or are you denying that my experience is valid ?

Absolutely not!

Don’t put words into my mouth about disregarding victims of sexual abuse just to point score, it’s literally the lowest of the low and makes you look stupid.

Your experience comes from 1 person or a small group of people.

It’s absolutely valid but you know that 1 person’s experiences does not dictate the statistics for the rest of the country.

My experiences of thousands of women and girls are obviously going to reflect the majority of the country better than your 1 victim.

No one is denying that immigrant men aren’t dangerous - literally men from any country have the potential to be dangerous.
So of course some are rapists.

Yes. You show something that addresses her "challenges" and she'll just ignore that and move onto something else.

OK Let's go with that then.

Not equal therefore must be raped?

Really?

I’m not point scoring. I recounted my experience of living in a high immigration area and that of the people I know and you completely dismissed it. It’s utterly naive to the point of being harmful to deny that our experience isn’t being repeated across the country in similar areas.

OneHazelBird · Yesterday 20:49

Some of the loveliest men I’ve ever met are Muslim men and it’s shocking that we’ve got to a stage where people openly say that ALL Muslim men are bad.

We have Muslim men who work with the victims and perpetrators of sexual abuse and domestic violence and I can tell you for a fact that they see women as their equal.

I am an atheist but I would never judge someone purely on their religion.

Nobody is saying that ALL Muslim men are bad. And nobody is judging purely on religion. But you’re going to the opposite extreme and trying to pretend that many Muslim men don’t present a threat to women. Which is nonsense. Otherwise we wouldn’t be having this conversation would we ? Because this child wouldn’t have been raped would she ?

Were you there? The defendant said that people were too busy on their phones to notice what was happening.

And if they'd have been absorbed in a reading book? Would you be saying people shouldn't read on trains either?

Lemonlimeandwhat · Yesterday 20:54

If you're from a country which has banned education for women over 14 and doesn't let them leave the house without a male escort and requires them to cover up, then you're going to have a different view toward women than someone born here.

So it’s the fact that they’re Pakistani not Muslim then?

I think people are confused about what they’re scared of - 1 minute it’s illegal immigrants, then it’s immigrants in general, then it’s Muslims, now it’s Pakistani men?

Well they are hardly likely to be Pakistani and Christian are they, given that the few Christians left in Pakistan tend to be attacked and killed by mobs. So very peaceful and tolerant...

Reading the article there are a lot of questions here. Firstly why is someone this vulnerable out alone, she was 14, autistic and unable to say no to a man, who the hell was not watching her.

The passengers on a train saw a girl with a man who asked her to sit on his lap and she did according to the article, so it sounds like she went along with things because she was vulnerable but toan outsider to this situation it could have looked like people who knew each other, was in a relationship etc why on earth would a stranger challenge this? Yes it would have been a potentially concerning age gap but aside from this, they would have seen a girl and a man get on the train, he asked her to sit on his lap, she did it, then they went off to the toilet. How many people here would see that and step in?

The people who did wrong are the men who assaulted and raped her, not the passengers who had no clue these people didnt know each other and that she was a vulnerable girl who needed help. Where are the people in her life that should have been safeguarding her? Because at 14 and being this vulnerable, someone should have been watching her and that isnt the job of strangers on a train who have no clue about the situation.

Where have I said Muslim men don’t present a threat to women?

I wouldn’t say that about any religion or race of men because we know they all present a risk to women.

We also know that the biggest threat to women and children are the men that we know - family and friends.

I am also very open about my stance on undocumented men in this country and if I had my way, every man regardless of race or whether he was British born etc would be ID’d and have DNA on file.

But we can factually state that men born in the following countries and resident in the UK are statistically more likely (on a per capita basis) to commit sex crimes than the average of all men in the UK.

An immigrant man from a '3rd world' country as you put it won this year's Pride of Britain award for performing hundreds of heart surgeries on Brits.

Those people thankfully don't think like you.

People have said that upthread actually.

And that chart is a load of crap. Making a chart based on 19 convicted Afghan men is ridiculous, any credible statistician would laugh you out of the country.
