Shocked that no one helped the girl on the train

14 year old SA in trained

I am being unreasonable in think people need to stop being so absorbed on their phones whilst out in public. It seems no one helpped this child whilst she was being raped because they were too busy on their phones.

Autistic girl, 14, 'sexually assaulted on train by Afghan migrants'

Baryalai Rahimi, 25, and Mirebadurahman Sadat, 29, are said to have spotted the runaway teenager at a station in rural Kent before following her onto the London-bound train on February 5.

Even if someone had had a go, who do you think the police would be pursuing?

This country is finished.

Sorry, but this is nonsense.

If believing that we shouldn’t allow any men from Muslim countries that don’t respect women’s human rights into the country for any reason is ‘nakedly racist’ I’m unashamedly nakedly racist.
I don’t want any more men here who adhere to an ideology that doesn’t recognise women as fully human.
If they need asylum, they should fuck off and seek it in one of the many Muslim countries available.

Exactly. There are lots of Muslim countries that can offer these people asylum.

Do you think it's the government's fault when white British men rape kids, too?

We have enough of our own without importing anymore..

Were you there? The defendant said that people were too busy on their phones to notice what was happening.

But how could they? She doesn't suggest that it happened in public or that there was anything to draw attention to it.

The crimes are obviously real, but I do think it's worth acknowledging the focus would not be the same if it was Chinese men or Filipino men or British men. The right wing papers are clearly choosing to put these stories front and centre and publicise them heavily when there is a link to asylum seekers or muslim offenders and black offenders. There are political powers and money at play and newspapers like the Daily Mail are absolutely wanting to create this thought in your head that there is so much crime from these people. Lots of those stories that are front and centre in the British right wing press aren't even from this country, but if they fit the narrative, they will go in and go in big. I've even seen them dig out ten/ fifteen/ twenty year old news stories and run them like they are new, it's crazy. There was one story about an asylum seeker who raped a girl in Sunderland and they ran that story so much, I remember thinking something new had happened before I checked the date and saw the article referred to the older crime.

I DO think there is an issue with the checks and security of the current asylum process. I would like more governmental debate about it. I think they are being too careless about their current resettlement of likely very damaged individuals. But I can also see the distortion and manipulation in the press and I don't think it's helping, because the real discussion starts to get lost inside nonsense about Christmas tree packaging and aggressive nationalist poppies.

yes, there's clearly an issue with how certain cultures view women as objects and we're clearly not getting the cream of the crop - fleeing their countries and arriving by dinghies

at the same time, its a nuanceD situation, but the DM and their fanbase just want to lump it into one binary-minded pot

The tabloids models of profit are generally anger-producing headlines to drive their profit margins, while doing a nice job of steering the political narrative where they will.

They see horrific incidents like this as another useful weapon to drive the wedge and many people need to project their own unresolved issues outwards via getting angry, it doesn't matter the source of the anger, whether that be Migrants, Meghan Markle, Royal Family, Left wing v right wing, Leavers v Remain and before that it was the Polish and other Europeans, whoever the crosshairs focused on

Does my stance mean I am condoning what happened? No

I've made my stance perfectly clear of what I would in the real world, had it happened in front of me

The facts appear to be she was led away and therefore, it did not happen in full view of a carriage of people, too busy watching TikTok

Which brings me to my final point, that I am happy to choose this hill to die
on

A real person's life has been completely fucked up in the most horrific way, at such a young age

but a bunch of people are more interested in political point scoring, which in some way diminishes the event for that girl and in every way, signals a huge disconnect between many people and basic empathy on a site like MN

Men are women’s greatest predator regardless of country or race

Regardless of culture also? What’s with the denial of the bleeding obvious?

You can’t even walk down the street unchaperoned and without your full-body cloak in Afghanistan. Are they not also rock bottom of the global indices for women’s rights?

Im not even talking about newspaper articles. Page 6 has statistics from the ministry of justice. I couldn't give a flying fuck about the shite posted in these rags.

We have treaty obligations to offer asylum to refugees regardless of race. I hate to think what would have happened in the 30s and 40s if we had refused to take any refugees who were not Christian.

CakeAndEats · Yesterday 20:07

Apotofrealcoffee · Yesterday 19:55

Why is that? And who is oppressing these women?

Afghani men

The statistics have been posted multiple times in this thread.

Nope, someone posted an article that even said itself that the data is unreliable.

No, it doesn't, it's an article that even says the data is incomplete.

It's not an MoJ link at all.

Who in government is running an import and export business? What are you even on about?

I would rather look absolutely stupid and even put myself in danger than do nothing.
Ever since James Bulger I feel like this and I don't bloody care.

We are not in the 30s and 40s. The numbers and situation are entirely different.

Many if not the majority of the men coming in are economic migrants with passage facilitated by illegal gangs, not people who need asylum.

This is not a sensible comparison.

nomas · Yesterday 20:11

Minasama · Yesterday 19:43

You are mistaken. Afghan men are 7 times more likely to rape women in Britain than British men. For other Middle Eastern men the figure is 5 times more likely. The Economist ran a very interesting article on this which you can find online.

So yes, the government should be protecting us from these men.

Please don’t allow your laudable wish not to be racist to stand in the way of the facts. That’s why we had Pakistani rape gangs operating freely in 149 areas, and more than 100 separate abuse cases against girls and women in Birmingham alone are currently being investigated.

Very clearly there are more British perpetrators. That’s because there are many tens of millions more British men in this country than Afghans. But the high rates of assault committed by these guests to our country really stand out and these attacks can easily be prevented - by not allowing these men in.

Edited

Afghan men are 7 times more likely to rape women in Britain than British men.

This made up statistic again.

Yawn.

Ablondiebutagoody · Yesterday 15:27

I was very clear about what I think.

If those men were denied entry to the country, this girl would not have been raped in that train toilet.

Maybe if our
country and our allies hadn’t illegally invaded and then abandoned Afghanistan then people there wouldn’t be in such a desperate situation that they became refugees with every right to
claim
asylum here.

Per capita, male Afghans are raping all day day every day

Any links/stats at all?

Your post makes no sense.

Obviously, the Police have understood the issue because the men are being prosecuted, as they should be, under UK law.

What happened to thus poor girl is truly awful but the UK is not finished, it is only just getting started with these two.

I sincerely hope that they are incarcerated whilst in the UK and then deported, hopefully into the custody of their own judicial system.

It is not made up. I can’t post a link as it reverts to my Economist app, but they did FOI requests and crunched the numbers. You should read the article, it’s really interesting.
