Strange Christmas Decorations.

In John Lewis I was astonished to see tins of baked beans, soup, marmite and a lot more besides as tree baubles. Not only surprised but shocked at the price too. £15 a pop. I understand the novelty aspect but AIBU to think its taking decorations a bit far.
I hasten to add I thought their selection this year was poor.

As an English teacher in France these are right up my street 😂

FourEyesGood · 31/10/2026 18:40

Way more interesting than boring old Santa decorations!

Spirallingdownwards · 31/10/2026 18:41

Kitsch decorations for trees are very much in. I am going to probably send a marmite one to my relative abroad as it is what I am always asked to bring with me when I visit.

I've got a blue crochet octopus that I like. I've also got a mini gold Eiffel Tower and tiny Dutch clogs.

We very enthusiastically collect weird decorations and love them. I don’t mind paying a bit extra for them because we look after them and they last for years! We now have so many that we rotate them year about!

mamaof4losingmymind · 31/10/2026 18:48

They are awful my dp buys the worst Christmas bauble he can find every year and tries to hide it on the tree.

We have loads too! I think they're great and the kids love them. We got a slice of pepperoni pizza today! 🍕 Xmas Grin

I’m going to stick to my all glass decorations but I confess to a crepe paper cracker 30+ years old that gets hidden in the depths. It was made by my DD.

One of my friends gave me a glittery mushroom last year.
It spent the Xmas period dangling off my spider plant

@NoWordForFluffywe have a glittery tomato and an avocado! I find that scandi shops are great for random baubles!

ClippyMuldoon · Yesterday 10:38

I have lost track of ours. We have baubles shaped like tins of Quality Street, brussels sprouts, sushi, a vast collection of felt mice in various outfits. Henry VII and all the wives, various biscuits...and all the usual traditional things. It sounds mad but when it's all on it works. We have space for a big tree, the only thing banned is tinsel. I love my tree 😀

We have all sorts of food items. I got some cheese ones from Next this year!

The kids love random ones for their tree.

I think they're fantastic. I've just been having a look and I'm particularly taken with the pig in blanket.

We only have Henry VIII, no wives! We got some Titanic ones earlier this year at the museum. I think we may have Elizabeth I as well! Plus dinosaurs from NHM.

I think it works as well!

Last year one of the regular MN adverts was for a tree decoration from etsy. It looked like a penis wrapped in a little blanket!

Our opposite neighbours used to dress their front window in draped lights with a star towards the top. The draping was elliptical and with the 'star' looked like a vulva and clitoris from the outside. 😆

newrubylane · Yesterday 10:55

I've seen them. Not my thing at all, but each to their own. My DD7 enjoyed looking at them all. I had to explain the VHS and cassette ones to her 😁

ZeroDucksLeft · Yesterday 11:00

I have two trees for exactly this reason, one “normal” tree with all my beautiful decs and then the “tat-mas” (or “sh*t-mas”) tree for all the crazy baubles we have collected over the years from holidays and days out or been given. Both make me exceptionally happy.

omghereistrouble · Yesterday 11:02

online yesterday a bauble popped up in the shape of a toilet complete with low level system! draped in tinsel and faux lights
to complete it saw a 💩

Owamyabab · Yesterday 11:10

We get a novelty decoration every year! I love it

OffTheMap · Yesterday 11:11

A huge range of ‘novelty’ baubles have been popular for about 20 years, OP, where have you been?

Wheniswinenight · Yesterday 11:12

Each to their own but I’m just too traditional for all that! I saw tree decorations somewhere that were bottles of gin/prosecco etc. It’s a bit tacky.

Totaldramallama · Yesterday 11:20

I always wondered who buys these and now I know 😂

Personally I prefer a more traditional christmassy vibe

TheGirlWhoLived · Yesterday 11:26

There was an excellent thread last year based on the ugliest Christmas tree bauble someone owned… I’ll try and find it to link but it was really excellent!
