In John Lewis I was astonished to see tins of baked beans, soup, marmite and a lot more besides as tree baubles. Not only surprised but shocked at the price too. £15 a pop. I understand the novelty aspect but AIBU to think its taking decorations a bit far.
I hasten to add I thought their selection this year was poor.

During Covid I bought a toilet roll one I have Kate bush as well and lots of marvel/ Star Trek ones I love every one of them. I like the idea of a tatt tree.

I've seen 'them'. Not to my liking but they were being snapped up at John Lewis!

My youngest DS and myself go out shopping every December and our mission is to find the shittest Christmas tree decoration we can find! We have about 10 now. Worst one is a shiney pink hippo in a tutu and a bad blonde wig! We never spend more than around £3 though. Would never spend £15!

Many of our tree decorations have personal meanings for individuals - if I see one that fits I buy it!
This year bought a croissant for DP, a crystal diamond for DS and an aquamarine themed decoration for DD
I was in sostrene grene this week and bought some decs to personalise for DGD

We buy a Christmas bauble or tree decoration virtually every holiday. I love that my tree has so many memories attached to the decorations. ♥️

I always buy a couple of unloved Christmas decorations in the January sales every year. It started about 10 years ago when I saw a poor daggly little knitted pig. It's lived on our tree every Christmas since. Iv'e rescued a few more since then.

ABSOLUTELY NOT BEING UNREASONABLE let’s keep Christmas as it is thanks!

jeez You’d hate my tree. It’s covered in dragons, dinosaurs, kiwis (the bird) dressed as lord of the rings characters a skeleton etc and my most recent purchase a Negroni. I love having as much weird crap as possible on the tree makes life more interesting!

I have two trees for exactly this reason, one “normal” tree with all my beautiful decs and then the “tat-mas” (or “sh*t-mas”) tree for all the crazy baubles we have collected over the years from holidays and days out or been given. Both make me exceptionally happy.

My brother and SIL do this. The show tree is in the lounge and then their kitsch tree with novelty decorations in another room.

I have a tree in my kitchen for food drink decorations. I love it. Going straight to John Lewis website to check it out.

There is a pair of nice glass bakery ones on M&S, I'm waiting to get a Sparks offer on decs there, I'm sure one will be forthcoming soon..

Autumnalhibernationisthedream · Today 05:27

I’m not sure it’s a new thing though? I’ve seen similar awful and strange decorations for many years

I like them personally. We used to have a vegan Greggs sausage roll one but it sadly smashed. We have an incredibly eclectic selection of decorations ranging from Edgar Allan Poe to a pink poodle on our tree. I do it intentionally to rebel against my mum’s boring ass traditional tree with baubles to match the room decor.

Rubyupbeat · Today 07:44

In the US there would be nothing strange about these decorations, we pick up the most unusual ones when we are over there, all glass may I add. Last year I went back to more traditional Dec's though.

One of my friends gave me a glittery mushroom last year.
It spent the Xmas period dangling off my spider plant

Ooh, I love a glittery mushroom! I must look out for some.

I know Asda do things like pizza slices and my daughter one year but a pink iced ring doughnut decoration so it’s nothing new really. Last year I saw Big Ben, which I loved but I have far too many tree decorations. And they’re certainly cheaper at Asda than John Lewis.
