To be a bit miffed at my friend’s idea of a ‘takeaway night’ tomorrow

My friend is kindly hosting a night for me and two others, a girly catch up.

When suggested we agreed on getting a takeaway and consensus from earlier this week was to get an Indian, and we earmarked the specific takeaway we’d order from.

My friend hosting has messaged to say she has picked up a ‘deal‘ from the supermarket this afternoon so she has got some ready meal curries and sides and said we can sort the money out on the night.

First world problem I know, but a supermarket ready meal doesn’t really hit the spot compared to a proper Indian takeaway so I feel a bit annoyed! She didn’t check with us before.

There’s more vegan food than legumes and soya.

Not really. Most vegan food is processed crap, unless you literally live on raw veggies. I know a fair number of vegans. Most are overweight to obese.

ConstantlyFuriosa · 22/10/2026 19:35

I don’t mind the odd fakeaway as some supermarket ready meals can be quite nice. But I see a proper takeaway as a treat so in that respect I’d be disappointed. I’d also be peeved to have not been consulted, especially given you’d all chosen the restaurant and food you wanted beforehand.

Mumtotornadoes · 22/10/2026 19:35

I'd reply "what?! Fuck that. I've been waiting all week for shop! Pop them in the freezer, I'm having a Rogan Josh and a cheese naan" classy bird that I am.

itsnearly2027 · 22/10/2026 19:36

Where does it end? Takeaway better than supermarket, restaurant better than takeaway, Indian street food better … you get the drift. Surely you can suck it up for one night

Lurkingandlearning · 22/10/2026 19:36

Tell her to put your ready meal in her freezer because you were looking forward to a restaurant take away so that’s what you’ll bring.

I normally go with the flow except when people try to make me eat what I don’t want to eat. Especially when they don’t ask first.

BigMommasHouse · 22/10/2026 19:36

She has just ridden rough shod over your group’s plans. Hyper processed ready meal over takeaway that you are looking forward to.

School her. Insist that you are sticking to the original plan. She can eat the supermarket slip if she prefers.

This 100% I was also going to say the friend made the effort to get the curry and host

All she needed were plates and cutlery...

Food was going to be ordered by everyone.

Charlenedickens · 22/10/2026 19:36

I think some folks go to some right shite takeaways, the Indian restaurants round us do fabulous food and a meal deal from the supermarket, including markies doesn’t come close.

id also be pissed off op, I’d not say anything, but I’d feel quite disappointed.

Yes! Every vegan I know is overweight because they exist on bread and pasta.

We're having homemade pizzas tonight but this thread has made me crave curry.

littlemousebigcheese · 22/10/2026 19:37

The thing is with the extras supermarket ones can be pricy yet taste crap! My local Indian does an amazing curry and that plus a naan and poppadom is £11. Supermarket deals are maybe a few pounds less and taste awful comparatively! I’d be annoyed at not being given a choice! Also it’s hardly friendship ruining to say you’d prefer to still order in?

Funnywonder · 22/10/2026 19:37

Twiglets1 · 22/10/2026 18:49

What a fuss about nothing.

Just enjoy the evening with your friends with no drama @Teriyt and have an Indian takeaway at home in a week or so if you're that desperate for one.

I agree. I couldn’t work up any of the outrage expressed by some posters on here, who are varying degrees of fuming, gutted and devastated. I might manage mild disappointment for a few seconds. Maybe.

Lol. I'd say exactly the same. Except mine's a peshwari.

Absolutely. I'd either cry off or get her telt. That won't go down well on this site, though, where people are so mealy mouthed and scared to make waves.

seriousandloyal · 22/10/2026 19:38

I think it’s the company that matters, not the location or the food. I wouldn’t have done that in your friend’s place but I wouldn’t refuse to go either in your place.

Peshwari for me, please!

HughJarsed · 22/10/2026 19:39

When I host, I am all about the guests. The friend here has made a decision and changed the food plans for a group of four, with no discussion at all. That’s arrogant and rude.

Thats just shit and I'd be pissed off too!
Does she even know what you'd have ordered? I only like certain dishes and I wouldn't be happy settling for a choice of a few that someone else had decided on for me!

Lol. I'd say exactly the same. Except mine's a peshwari.

Mine’s a plain but I always want proper onion bhajis which you definitely cannot obtain down ole tescos.

I want a paneer tikka masala, proper pops with proper chutneys. Maybe even some samosas.

Vitrolinsanity · 22/10/2026 19:40

DiscoCherries · 22/10/2026 19:03

This is just not a hill I’d die on. Go and enjoy your night with your friends.

I’m with you.

If I have to eat curry I’d want to do so in a restaurant. I loathe Indian takeaway and it may as well be from Tesco.

RationallyAngry · 22/10/2026 19:40

It's the way she's announced it as a done deal, as if she's doing you all a favour.

'Saved you the bother of ordering what you want from the nice takeaway. I've got 6 x supermarket ready meals of processed reclaimed meat and microwave rice instead. That'll be a tenner each. You're welcome!"

Only if you have zero sense of humour

I have a sense of humour.
But that still doesn't alter the fact that off hand comments and sarcasm don't translate well into the written word . They rely on the nuances of human interaction to actually work. Otherwise they come over as literal.

Better than being rude and offensive as you are trying to be.

Make it peshwari instead of plain and this is pretty much my perfect order. I might add a cheeky chana dal too.
