To be a bit miffed at my friend’s idea of a ‘takeaway night’ tomorrow

My friend is kindly hosting a night for me and two others, a girly catch up.

When suggested we agreed on getting a takeaway and consensus from earlier this week was to get an Indian, and we earmarked the specific takeaway we’d order from.

My friend hosting has messaged to say she has picked up a ‘deal‘ from the supermarket this afternoon so she has got some ready meal curries and sides and said we can sort the money out on the night.

First world problem I know, but a supermarket ready meal doesn’t really hit the spot compared to a proper Indian takeaway so I feel a bit annoyed! She didn’t check with us before.

Indeed, and as unlike the majority of Mumsnetters, she has a sense of humour, I’m sure we will all have a good laugh about it tonight.

That sounds like a good outcome @Teriyt
I hope all of you have a good evening.

And a Jamdani Hash. Lush.

But its not for sharing. Its MY takeaway, I chose it, I'm eating it.

If I’d promised a takeaway then went ahead without discussion and got everyone some ready meal slop (and asked for payment for the privilege), then I’d fully expect to get some stick!

Not sure how you explain that chat had been in existence before- you are clearly a bunch of mean girls and this is just another excuse to mock someone.

FFSItsTooHot · 23/10/2026 17:20

This would annoy me too! No doubt there are some decent deals from supermarkets out there, but as you say, they never quite hit the spot in the way a real Indian takeaway does!

Katastrophyy · 23/10/2026 17:28

I think its mean to order a takeaway when shes clearly skint. Jesus have a takeaway any other fucking night if its that important to you!

JoBrandsCleaner · 23/10/2026 17:49

You’re right, that’s well naff and it won’t even be much cheaper.

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/10/2026 17:51

Agree a takeaway isn’t the same as a shop curry

glad it got sorted

muggart · 23/10/2026 17:51

She can’t afford it. You really want to sit there with your delicious takeaway while she has a ready meal? I would feel weird about that.

Abbiie · 23/10/2026 17:53

So it’s a split vote for me. She should have asked before making a group decision by herself. But she might be skint and didn’t want to say that. I’d also just be looking forward to the get together and seeing my girlies. We’re all trying to save a few extra pennies these days and it’s probably healthier. So I wouldn’t be too annoyed.

crikeymikey123 · 23/10/2026 17:55

Unless it's an M&S Chicken Tikka Masala which taste better than a takeaway, she's BVU!

Jainmain · 23/10/2026 17:57

I actually can't believe you're posting about this. I wonder how you get through the day if this has annoyed you.

Zerosleep · 23/10/2026 17:58

I would reply and say that you will be ordering the take out as you prefer that.

'That's fine, you enjoy your supermarket one, I was looking forward to an actual take away so will be ordering that. Looking forward to see you all'

Yep - this one 👆🏻

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 23/10/2026 18:04

I’d be sooo disappointed. We have a proper take away once in a blue moon and like you OP, would have been very looking forward to it and in no way does a ready meal, even M & S hit the spot.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 23/10/2026 18:05

And for me, the food part of getting together is equal to the company. I love eating with friends.

She's tried to do a nice thing and save you all some money. Or maybe she's feeling the pinch.

If she's got it wrong, friends would talk to each other about it.

This does work both ways though - friend could have put this past OP and others first.

Biscuitjockey · 23/10/2026 18:08

Devastating ? Omg dramatic

NotDonna · 23/10/2026 18:09

I said ‘yabu’ bc catching up with friends is ALL about the catch up not the takeaway. I recall popping to a friends (invited) when we’d both just had our first babies and her saying is ‘beans on toast’ ok? Of course it’s flipping ok. Who cares? Life’s too short and in this short life what matters is connections and friendships NOT where the good came from.

AngelRoja · 23/10/2026 18:09

Askandyforcompo · 22/10/2026 18:36

It depends where from. M and S is probably better than some takeaways.

And Waitrose

Pumpkinsaregrowingnicely · 23/10/2026 18:10

Don't forget a quid for the meter op.

Indeed, and as unlike the majority of Mumsnetters, she has a sense of humour, I’m sure we will all have a good laugh about it tonight.

So you're planning on telling her tonight that you were all "howling" at her in a separate group chat behind her back, then?

Jjek · 23/10/2026 18:19

I’d assume she is jabbing and wanted to go for something less greasy but on theme

ratatouillemousesqueak · 23/10/2026 18:25

Wewillmeetagainoneday · 22/10/2026 18:41

I would have thought the get together with your pals and the catch up was the main point of the evening? Surely what you eat is only secondary?

No! Once I have my heart set on a decent curry that’s it! Food first 🤣

ForChucks · 23/10/2026 18:29

I would just say thank you but I am so looking forward to a takeaway from * , you have the supermarket one , I am sure you can freeze the other portions for yourself at a later date, so it will not go to waste, but thanks for thinking of it. She then has no place to go and you get your take away
