To be a bit miffed at my friend’s idea of a ‘takeaway night’ tomorrow

Teriyt · 22/10/2026 18:31

My friend is kindly hosting a night for me and two others, a girly catch up.

When suggested we agreed on getting a takeaway and consensus from earlier this week was to get an Indian, and we earmarked the specific takeaway we’d order from.

My friend hosting has messaged to say she has picked up a ‘deal‘ from the supermarket this afternoon so she has got some ready meal curries and sides and said we can sort the money out on the night.

First world problem I know, but a supermarket ready meal doesn’t really hit the spot compared to a proper Indian takeaway so I feel a bit annoyed! She didn’t check with us before.

So she has sent a photo and my friend has worked out it’s 2x each of:

and

Plus a pack of naans

We are howling in a seperate chat 😂😂

We are going to suggest covering the cost and getting a takeaway, she can freeze what she has already got or give it to her dog!

You had me to this post- laughing in a separate chat and saying she can give it to the dog. She Shouldn’t have taken it upon herself to decide, but if this was my friends, we would just say, aw babe I was really looking forward to ordering x,y,z I think I will still do that and you can have your curry’s.

Wishihadanalgorithm · 22/10/2026 21:11

I just wouldn’t go.

If you offer a take away, then that’s what you do.

Asda ready meals are in no way comparable to an Indian takeaway. Your friend either knows this and doesn’t care or she needs to be told how substandard they are.

She also needs to be told that it’s bad manners to force a change of plans on people when it’s just her whim.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 22/10/2026 21:12

I think you’re fine to turn down the ready meal politely, but tell her asap so she can freeze it , say you’ll either eat first or you’ll stick to having a take away as you’ve been looking forward to that

BertSymptom · 22/10/2026 20:16

I can’t see how OP is being a horrible friend for telling strangers on the internet she thinks, rightly, that a supermarket ready meal is not as good as a takeaway.

If anyone’s being a horrible friend it’s host friend for agreeing on a plan with the group only to change the plans to something similar but let’s face it worse without checking with the group.

If it were me I’d grin and bear it and then get the takeaway I was looking forward to with DH the next night.

Absolutely. I hate when people unilaterally change the plans and then try and pressure everyone else to go along with it.

I’m glad you’re all eating what you like and she can eat her frigging Asda tikka masala.

Hyroplate · 22/10/2026 21:14

You sound awful . She made the wrong call. You can say you'd rather have a takeaway and she can put in in the freezer for her family to have another time.

But being spiteful behind her back in another chat? This is the behaviour of grown women, and about a friend?

meganorks · 22/10/2026 21:17

Adsa fucking curries?! Absolutely get in the bin! That's really shit. I think I'd just say, 'sorry mate that's really not going to cut it. I've already picked my order and i want something spicy. Happy to cover yours though'

Nylonflares · 22/10/2026 21:20

No one ever can think that inviting friends for a takeaway and feeding them ready meals is in any way ok!

Without wanting to be too stuck in the mud but I think "We are howling in a seperate chat 😂😂" is many magnitudes worse than buying supermarket curries.

They are laughing at their friend in a separate group chat....That is being a horrible friend

Agreed it’s bitchy behaviour.

The softplay is called wacky warehouse. Which are attached to various different Greene Kings/Hungry Horses.

You wouldn’t have been eating at a softplay fgs

WW are shit! Went to one many years ago with my then 2 yr old & friends we were staying with. Never again! And to choose it for an adult only meal is s very odd choice!

TheChosenTwo · 22/10/2026 21:25

I posted earlier than the food that was being offered was rubbish but I’m not about the laughing in the group chat, that shit’s just bitchy. Fair enough having an anonymous rant here but that’s just not on.

Peakyblinder18 · 22/10/2026 21:26

@Teriyt I was sorry of thinking it was ok until I saw the Asda chicken. That's gross.
If she's that hard up perhaps you all could cover her takeaway.
Is df supplying wine, snacks, or anything?
Put your foot down all of you.

Eurgh. Back in the good old pre-Covid days, Asda used to do an 'extra hot vindaloo' curry that was actually quite nice - not as good as a decent takeaway but it was nice enough to look forward to as a Saturday night meal at home.

Then, they seemed to change their supplier. Their curries stopped coming in a see through container and changed to a brown one. No more vindaloo - either normal or extra hot - and they really went to shite, they went really sweet like someone had stirred in loads of sugar.

If I was having a supermarket curry, it certainly wouldn't be Asda now!

And whatever supermarket curry I was having, it wouldn't be the indifferent gloop that is a chicken tikka masala. I wouldn't even order that at a takeaway.

You haven't spoken to the others. You might be in the minority.
Surely you value your friendship and wouldn't want to fall out over something trivial.

Why would they need to “fall out” like they are in year 6? Confused

OP would be perfectly reasonable to say as given above, she will still order in the curry she fancied.

Prwsumably the hostess can be an adult and accept other people don’t want a supermarket ready meal.

No need for any falling out dramatics.

You made a separate chat to laugh at and complain about your "friend" rather than say something. Grow the fuck up and stop being mean girls.

JustNodSmileAgree · 22/10/2026 18:41

Yes that’s bad. The rice in those taste as I’d imagine washing up liquid to taste. I wouldn’t be happy with that either.

Maybe she’s skint though.

They're all paying for themselves the op says

Loub1987 · 22/10/2026 21:33

I thinks it’s mean that you are laughing at her in a separate chat. Just say you want a takeaway. No need to be so horrible.

Sgreenpy · 22/10/2026 21:33

Askandyforcompo · 22/10/2026 18:36

It depends where from. M and S is probably better than some takeaways.

We love an m&s curry. Granted its quite different from takeaways but delicious 😋

JazzyAmbs · 22/10/2026 21:34

Is it the 3 for £8 from Tesco? 🤣 not even Finest?!

I hadn’t read that when I posted.

Studyunder · 22/10/2026 21:40

So she agreed on a take away then not only did she deny you a take away, but has determined the small choice of meals available that you’ll have to unenthusiastically decide who gets which meal. She’s really sucked the fun out of that one!

Gothwife · 22/10/2026 21:41

Annnd that was disappointing. Totally reasonable to want a proper takeaway over a supermarket ready meal but laughing behind her back in a separate group chat is despicable. Time you had a long, hard look at yourself. Is that the kind of person you want to be?

Fizbosshoes · 22/10/2026 21:42

I dont think you are unreasonable for wanting an actual.take away when that was agreed, rather than a ready meal

YABU for making a separate chat about it. If you all agree, put it on the group chat individually and tell her.

OP ; oh thats a shame I was looking forward to getting a <insert curry house> take away, Thanks for getting these, but do you think that will be enough for all of us?

Then others can reply as they wish
