To be a bit miffed at my friend’s idea of a ‘takeaway night’ tomorrow

My friend is kindly hosting a night for me and two others, a girly catch up.

When suggested we agreed on getting a takeaway and consensus from earlier this week was to get an Indian, and we earmarked the specific takeaway we’d order from.

My friend hosting has messaged to say she has picked up a ‘deal‘ from the supermarket this afternoon so she has got some ready meal curries and sides and said we can sort the money out on the night.

First world problem I know, but a supermarket ready meal doesn’t really hit the spot compared to a proper Indian takeaway so I feel a bit annoyed! She didn’t check with us before.

I’d be annoyed at this, I don’t go out much so a takeaway is a nice event for me. If I wanted ready meals I’d just stay at home

ilovebrie8 · 22/10/2026 20:41

those Asda curries are rank

Teriyt · 22/10/2026 20:14

So she has sent a photo and my friend has worked out it’s 2x each of:

https://www.asda.com/groceries/product/indian-takeaway/asda-main-for-two-chicken-tikka-masala-400g/5542097

and

https://www.asda.com/groceries/product/indian-takeaway/asda-side-for-two-pilau-rice-300g/5542135

Plus a pack of naans

We are howling in a seperate chat 😂😂

We are going to suggest covering the cost and getting a takeaway, she can freeze what she has already got or give it to her dog!

Yep, I’d be rebelling too. ASDA curry ready meals? 😮

What if you wanted a lamb bhuna or a prawn biryani?

And OMG a 400g tikka masala doesn’t serve two FFS!!

Fiftyandme · 22/10/2026 20:44

Just reply to say that you’ll go ahead and offer your food from the Indian you’d planned to order from.

AnonyMumAuDHD · 22/10/2026 20:46

At least it seems the rest of you are on the same page - so you can all go back and say it was a sweet thought if she was trying to save you all money or calories, but actually you all reeeeally want the takeaway so will order in anyway.

FieryA · 22/10/2026 20:49

Yeah, that would be unacceptable. I mean why did she buy the supermarket stuff without even checking in with you all? Plus I find their quantity quite less and limited variety. She can eat that and you (and anyone else) can order the takeaway as planned.

Fucking Asda?! Lowest of the low! Cheeky cow!

ByTipsyShark · 22/10/2026 20:52

YANBU!

Reminds me of the first time I was invited for take away night at my ILs and it turned out to be a homemade curry, with some rice, poppadoms and naan picked up from the local takeaway. Delicious but not the same!

didnttellasoul · 22/10/2026 20:52

Oh no, this is grim. How can she think this is okay?

I’d say, oh don’t worry I’m fine for food, I’ll join you for drinks. She’s got some cheek to ask for a contribution towards those.

MongoosePerfume · 22/10/2026 20:52

eewwwww!!!!! Don’t offer to pay though, she’s bang out of order. Even if it was edible it’s not enough food!

Askandyforcompo · 22/10/2026 20:53

ASDA??? Christ I was in there yesterday it really is the lowest quality looking ready meals.

You are NBU. At all.

GeorgeMichaelsCat · 22/10/2026 20:54

TeaCupTinsel · 22/10/2026 20:35

I'd say 'I was looking forward to the takeaway from X place so I'll still be ordering from there, I'm not keen on supermarket curries.'

I wouldn't just accept it and pay for something I don't like/want.

I'd be the same. She is free to eat that if she wishes. She can freeze the rest.

chasetheace99 · 22/10/2026 20:57

Asda curries are pretty rank - M&S or Sainsbury’s are fine especially if the main thing is a get together and a chat but Asda, I agree is a massive disappointment 😣

Cakeandcardio · 22/10/2026 20:57

You have my full sympathies. I once went to in laws with the promise we were getting a takeaway only to find out sis in law had made a pot of chilli. It was not the same.

If you feel bold you could say that you had hoped for a takeaway and can you still go with that?

ForPinkCrab · 22/10/2026 20:58

I work in Asda, they are gross, wouldn’t eat them if they were free . They do do a slightly better upmarket curry in round containers in their ‘posh’ range but even these are not a patch on a proper curry from a take away . Steer clear!

Nofeckingway · 22/10/2026 20:58

Even if they do give her the money , it's like what , a fiver . And you do have to howl in another chat as it is quite funny that she did this but at the same time you don't want to hurt her feelings . If I tried that with my friends though, they would probably call me a cunt . 😀

Bloozie · 22/10/2026 20:59

I thought you were being wildly unreasonable until I saw that it's Asda ready meals.

No no no. A Charlie Bighams, while not curry house standard, is fair enough.

Asda's own?

Rebel.

JasmineMac · 22/10/2026 21:01

I'd call off ill, and order my own curry.
You might get a decent sauce, but nothing from the supermarket (even the upmarket ones) matches freshly cooked naan, poppadom and rice from the takeaway.

SuperSharpShooter · 22/10/2026 21:03

TheRealSmurfette · 22/10/2026 20:03

What’s wrong with home made curry? Are they a bad cook?
Home made curry here is amazing! WAY nicer than supermarket ready meals!

Edited

We were invite for SUNDAY DINNER. Thats meat, veg , gravy and trimmings in my (anyone's) book!
I love a homemade curry, but boiled rice is Tuesday night behaviour!

AngelinaFibres · 22/10/2026 21:06

Askandyforcompo · 22/10/2026 18:36

It depends where from. M and S is probably better than some takeaways.

It really isn't. Tried it 2x as we can't get take aways where we live. Not going to bother again

Frumpitydoo · 22/10/2026 21:08

Nope, i wouldn't be eating that slop.

JenRummy · 22/10/2026 21:08

That’s absolutely dire. Howling 🤣🤣🤣.

Mummypie21 · 22/10/2026 20:36

I really don't like someone unilaterally changing plans. My father-in-law hates takeaways and if we eat together, he will try us to steer clear of them. For my dh's birthday recently, we all agreed that we'd try the local fish and chip place down our road. We were having it at our house and we were also going to pay for it. However, FIL came with shopping and food from the supermarket, telling us that we were all having what he'd bought instead.

DH still went to get some fish and chips because that was what he wanted for his birthday.

Who was he expecting to cook? Surely not you or DH? Turning up with shopping is bad enough but if he was expecting other people to cook? 🤯

Woahtherehoney · 22/10/2026 21:09

I didn’t think you were being unreasonable OP until you started laughing at your friend behind her back in a separate chat. That’s mean girl behaviour and not cool for grown women, but hey, you do you!
