To believe that Parents must have the right to tell their children they are not “in the wrong body” and children cant be “transgender”?

The government wants to bring in a law that threatens anyone including parents with up to five years in prison for denying a child’s or an adult’s “transgender identity” -. The draft Bill is in Committee stage. Labour have committed to making it law. Surely this is just bringing back the Scottish Parliament’s vote that everyone has to agree? That men are women if they say they are? This time parents are in the firing line if they dont agree to their child being “transed” at school or elsewhere? The Bill proposes that the courts should be able to make an order to enforce compliance on parents. Surely this can’t be allowed to go through without a fight?

What pp says. This is about banning conversion therapy, which has been shown to be harmful. It doesn't prevent parents from saying things. Though how you handle your child coming out with trans feelings is a delicate matter, and handling it harshly is unlikely to lead to a happy outcome.

The problem is that a very wide blanket term which has not been properly defined is being used as part of an ill thought out law, while in fact existing laws are already in place which protect people.

In many cases affirming a child or young person trans is conversion therapy - where they may in fact be simply gay but feeling this is not acceptable, or an autistic child looking for a reason as to why they don’t feel as though they fit in, or a child who needs therapy for trauma hating their body.

It is well known now that if a child is not affirmed, post puberty, in most cases they are used to their body and live comfortably as their sex. But in the case of those who are affirmed, this is not the case.

Laws already exist to protect people. This bill is a covert attempt to establish transing confused children and young people instead of protecting them.

The head of Mermaids was married to a homophobe who was repulsed by his effeminate little boy. So they decided he was really a girl and had him castrated in Bangkok when he was 16. That is abuse.

This is what the LGB Alliance has said:
The Conversion Practices Bill risks turning parents, teachers and counsellors into criminals for helping children understand that they may simply grow up to be same-sex attracted, writes LGB Alliance’s Campaigns Manager.

There is something deeply perverse about watching gay rights being used to make it harder for children to grow up gay. And that’s why, at LGB Alliance, we’re opposing the Draft Conversion Practices Bill....

The discussion below would explain better than I can though.

Yes and I dislike the use of the term 'social transition', especially the way it is applied to children in school: automatic deployment when a child wants to change name. Who decided that?

And as the Cass report pointed out, affirming a child as trans is not a neutral act. It puts them on a path they may otherwise have desisted from.

This excerpt is from Dr Az Hakeem, a Consultant Psychiatrist and Psychologist who had many years practice at The Tavistock/ Portman clinic with gender dysphoric patients. ( The full article by him is linked.)
My bolding.
Those presenting with gender dysphoria had a variety of conditions resulting in their presenting confusion in gender and only a proportion would be considered what used to be referred to as Transsexual and many were what would be classified as transvestite or have other related conditions.

26% of patients referred were people who had later regretted having gender reassignment surgery . They all said that they wished they had access to a neutral exploratory space to consider why they had arrived at their gender dysphoria.

Rather than ‘affirming’ a hypothesised new gender solution the gender confusion was explored to try and understand why this person now felt that being another gender was a ‘solution’ and trying to work out what it meant to be any gender for them.

The majority of patients were able to arrive at an understanding of why they had come to have problems with their gender and over time the problem abated and they tended not to pursue physical treatments as their gender was no longer a cause of distress.

N.B. As a taste of the madness, he has been accused of practicing conversion therapy for holding these views.

I thought we didn’t know regret rates because GIDS did not track discharged patients?

He seems to be saying that, of the patients referred to him, 26% were regretters. So presumably they came to talk their regret through with him. He is only referring to cohorts under his care.

👩‍💻 CONVERSION PRACTICES DRAFT BILL - CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

Get in quick now, this needn't take you long!

  • One point is sufficient, and harder hitting if you can make it personal,
eg. a scenario involving you and a child in your family network; if you are working, a scenario involving your work or your workplace; a social club or hobby group you attend; etc. etc.
  • A submission can be just one paragraph.
  • Then if you want to say more you can put in as many more one-point submissions as you like.
  • This is better than a single multi-point, complex submission that takes you ages to write and the Committee ages to read.

This is a message for Andy Burnham:

8 good reasons why Burnham urgently needs to bin the Conversion Practices Bill
By Peter Jenkins
Oct 26, 2026

There comes a moment in every politician’s career when it is finally time to bite the hand that once fed them. This step is absolutely crucial in order for a political figure to shake off any legacy obligations and to seize political control over their own immediate future. The obvious example here is that of the normally mild-mannered Harold Wilson, then a Labour Prime Minister, barking at militant trade union leaders to ‘get your tanks off my lawn!’ Timing is always critical here, and especially so in politics, when even a week can famously feel more like a year. So the time is fast approaching when Andy Burnham, shining hope of a revivalist Labour Government, moribund since Starmer’s time, needs to show his mettle by ditching the unhinged Conversion Practices Bill. This article argues that this is an essential step for Burnham to make progress in implementing his wider political agenda.

There are, of course, any number of valid reasons why the Bill, a badly drafted ragbag of trans ideology, urgently needs to disappear. Trans ideology refers here to the belief in an inner gender identity, and corresponding entitlement to social, medical and legal transition. The first argument, which in an ideal world, would be quite sufficient justification on its own, is that the Bill is, quite simply, a bad law.

Labour backlash over conversion therapy ban

Former health minister raises ‘serious concerns’ that draft bill places parents at risk of prosecution
27 Oct 2026 - The Telegraph

"Andy Burnham is facing a backlash from Labour MPs over the party’s proposed ban on conversion therapy.

A former Labour health minister has raised “serious concerns” about the draft Conversion Practices Bill, claiming that it places parents at risk of prosecution.

Under the draft laws, people face five years in jail for pressuring someone to change their sexuality or gender identity.

Preet Kaur Gill, the MP for Edgbaston, who served as under-secretary of state for health and social care from May to July this year, told The Telegraph:

“Nobody should ever be subjected to abuse because of their LGBT identity. The intentions of the bill – seeking to protect vulnerable people – are laudable.

“Yet there are serious concerns about the draft text that undermine what has become clear in recent research about the vulnerability of children exploring gender ideology.”

Thank you, that is a good article.

I am worried that this bill is seen by people in general ( as far as they will even know about it) as being about banning real torture, carried out on anyone from the holy, right-think omni-cause label of LGBT

In reality no person really fits that label; and it even has self-cancelling elements such as trans actually converting gay to trans; or, trans forcing heterosexuality on to gay.

But people think the bill will protect gay people, and protect trans people who were ‘born trans’ just like gay people were born gay, and no one should ‘fix’ them.

Ordinary people would think only monstrous, unfeeling, ignorant people would torture a poor lgbtqia person.

As being gay is increasingly accepted in society, what “Ban Conversion Therapy”,
really is is a Trojan horses for trans. ( Just as the caption lgbt is.)

Trans is not one thing to ‘not convert’ either. What even is it?

A life long old-style transsexual? A transvestite who as part of their sexuality loves women’s underwear, sexy get-up, and spaces? A married man with children lusting for himself with breasts and a hole ? A confused might-be-gay child whose parents are upset with them? A more effeminate little boy or masculine little girl whose hip parents have told them their ‘real gender’ from a young age? An autistic misfit hoping to belong? A sexually abused child who hates their body? A unwanted child put in care needing a new self? …

Under this “Ban Conversion Practices” bill, anyone trying to protect children, explore their feelings and expression, or to set up protective boundaries - instead of affirming and promoting all and everything that might be called ‘trans’- could be vilified, prosecuted, be reported to social services, sacked.

It is all the product of an evil coercive, strategic advertising campaign run by sick, controlling men and endorsed by gullible ‘kind’ women.

It appears to cover gender dysphoria, which should be discussed not medicated. To that extent it is a bad Bill. And there is already legislation in place to prevent conversion therapy of homosexuals. Trans is not in the same boats as being gay - it can require use of wrong sex hormones that damage the body, irreversible surgery, loss of sexual function and sterility as a result of hormones and surgery, and also demands by many who think they are 'trans' that women give up their hard won rights to a load of entitled men in frocks. That lot needs discussing with great care before anyone writes a prescription or arranges surgery.

Im in medicine. If the child has had a full work up with psych, it would be logged with the social services team.
