To think Meghan Markle isn’t the problem, it’s Harry?

I don’t understand why Meghan is so often treated as the driving force behind everything people dislike about them, while Harry is portrayed as some helpless man who’s been led astray.

He’s a grown man with his own opinions and the ability to make his own decisions. It’s his family and presumably he has far more history with them than she does. Why is the assumption that she’s manipulated him, rather than that he has his own grievances and is doing what he wants?

You don’t have to like Meghan to recognise that Harry is responsible for his own behaviour. I actually find him more irritating, particularly the impression he gives that everyone else is responsible for his unhappiness.

AIBU to think she gets a disproportionate amount of the blame, while he gets far too much benefit of the doubt?

'“how I curtseyed to the late Queen’
Are you talking about the bow in the Oprah interview?
She is referencing Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament, which is a live action theatre chain in America. She was doing a parody of that. She says it very clearly.'

Exactly. She was taking the piss out of HERSELF for not knowing how to curtsey properly. If I remember right, she said that Harry gave her about 30 seconds notice that they were about to meet the Queen for the first time, and that she would need to curtsey. She, not unreasonably, thought 'oh shit, how do I do that exactly?!'. Zero disrespect to the Queen or the RF in general

So many people have decided that she's the devil incarnate, and won't be told otherwise 🙄

XenaSharples · 21/10/2026 18:35

She gives me the creeps. Having said all that, she was treated appallingly by the gutter press.

She isn't liked by me...

There, I fixed it for you.

She isn't liked by lots of people because she is poisonous not because of her skin colour. There, I have corrected you back.

No, the one shown in H and M's nauseating Netflix documentary. To be fair, Harry had the grace to look exceedingly uncomfortable when Meagain parodied her initial introduction to the Queen.

Boring and untrue. Kate’s popular. Diane was popular. Anne is popular. Camilla admittedly not so much, but not because she’s a woman, more that people have found it hard to forgive her for being partly the cause of the Charles and Di spilt. And it’s just so so tedious that some people think you can get a free pass to be obnoxious just because of the colour of your skin. People don’t like her because she’s been shown to be unpleasant, time after time. I actually liked her initially as she was a breath of fresh air, as did a lot of people. Then I didn’t like her because she started showing us who she really was. Simple as that really…

Kate’s popular NOW

Diane (A) was popular IN SOME QUARTERS BUT WAS HOUNDED BY PRESS.

Anne is popular NOW.

Camilla admittedly not so much, but not because she’s a woman, more that people have found it hard to forgive her for being MISTRESS TO A NEWLY MARRIED MAN AND A PRETEND FRIEND TO HIS NEW BRIDE 9very grim we can all agree, but also a long time ago. now) partly the cause of the Charles and Di spilt.

All women who marry in their get absolutely humiliated by the press and the family let it happen. It is the price of entry. But - it one of the few Women Only zones in society.

Look at the treatment of Mike Tindal, any of Anne's husbands, Mr. Parker Bowles for a quick comparison.

Or the treatment of Mrs. Middleton vs Mr. Middelton.

LBFseBrom · 21/10/2026 18:38

I don't think either are a problem, it's the media, not helped by the royal 'firm'.
They never did anything bad, seem to be good people but they are staightforward.

They are back here now, at least some of the time and keeping a relatively low profile. Every day the media make a big thing out of nothing with their 'sources close to' and 'royal insiders', but, again, they don't appear to have done anything wrong.

I think they'll settle down better now without the HRH titles. They don't need the palace to survive, both are millionaires.

Good luck to them.

Or could it be because he felt guilty for putting her in that situation?

Did he elaborate more or are we assuming his thoughts?

To blame for what? They've done nothing wrong except live their lives.

Well, apart from trash their respective families and treat their relatives (except for Meghan's mother) badly, nothing at all.

IceLollly · 21/10/2026 18:44

I think Harry was always Harry, but then he married someone who encouraged his behaviour.

It reminds me a little bit of my BIL/SIL. My BIL is also not very bright, my SIL has encouraged him to cause issues with the family. We’ve had years of complaints and drama, often over nothing, and I know she’s encouraging it as she writes the texts (his grammar/spelling is terrible).

I also think Harry is desperately trying to make Meghan happy and give her what she wants. He hasn’t got the sense to realise he can’t.

Diana didn't have 11 lovers, then?

They were in Nottingham a few days ago, parading themselves around as though they are still working royals. That is the absolute OPPOSITE of what they said they wanted previously. ie privacy.
It's such a contradiction.

PistachioTiramisu · 21/10/2026 18:46

Well I used to like them both - Harry was funny and likeable, she was quite pretty - but they had to turn it sour with those awful interviews and that book. The worst thing was the fake curtsey - that was just so cringy and disrespectful. Now I cannot stand either of them and I don't blame W&K for not wanting to have anything to do with then

Neither of these people have caused me any problems.

It doesn't matter whether you are personally affected by something. People can care about things or have an interest in the wider world and not just themselves.

LowlandLucky · 21/10/2026 18:48

CardboardScott · 21/10/2026 16:42

I’m sure the tabloids make up all sorts of nonsense but it does sound like she wasn’t very well prepared for the reality of joining the Royal Family, which can really only be Harry’s fault.

She was a 35 year old woman that had managed to work and live in a different country all on her own, Supposedly making millions of dollars whilst she was at it, she wasn't a naive 19 year old. She brought herself to the U.K to find a rich Husband after she had binned off the last one by post.
Even from the engagment interview she took control. She thought she had it all sussed out but when she couldn't bend "the Firm" she left and took her pet husband with her.

I was answering that.

BoredZelda · 21/10/2026 18:49

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 21/10/2026 17:11

She pretended to the whole world that her children wouldn’t get prince and princess titles because they were too dark, that’s an outrageous accusation and incorrect as they weren’t due the titles until the queen died which they all knew.

She did nothing of the sort. She said she was told they wanted to change the convention, so that they were never given a title, and critically, that meant they would not be entitled to any security. This was at the time she was pregnant and her and her unborn child were receiving death threats.

cubistqueen · 21/10/2026 18:50

ImmortalNowBabyDoll · 21/10/2026 16:50

You don't need permission to write your autobiography or pick a name for your child.

Agree. Surely it’s more open than what his mother did with that book that came out after her split x her true story or something? And I happen to have my grandmothers nickname as my middle name. My parents gave it to me as they liked it. It didn’t occur to them to ask permission just as my husband and I didn’t ask permission when we named our eldest after his great grandmother.

im a republican, so want rid of the lot of them, but the hate against these two people who none of us actually know is verging on insanity. If I was them I’d leg it back to California asap but kudos for them for trying to make a life here.

No. This was in her living room.
I don’t believe she did curtsey like that at all. I am quite sure she would have known what to do.

Maomaotheapothecary · 21/10/2026 18:53

I like them both. I don’t think either of them are problems. I think they’ve drawn attention to some of the awful aspects of the RF, not to mention the gutter press, which is a good thing.

They do lots for charity even though they’re privately funded and working to support themselves, and are not taking any taxpayers money like the rest of the RF.

It's not his fault he needs security. It's not his fault he was born into that messed up family. He's had more vitriol for being honest about how toxic they are than Prince Andrew has for being a paedophile. Loads of celebrities have written books about their childhoods.

So you think he's honest then. That's given me a laugh. They have both been caught out in so many lies

Laura95167 · 21/10/2026 19:02

I do think shes a bit false in how she comes across but shes an actress and suddenly became very high profile, its not terrible to want to look good and be liked

I think he's massively the problem. He managed non of her expectations, he behaved in an entitled way to show off for her and handled it all like a stroppy child. And honestly that book.. his mums face cream on his willy 🤢

I think be working royals or dont. But dont be not working royals and then ask for taxpayers money or go on "tour" by yourself.. I just think he plays pathetic and is happy everyone thinks its his daddy's fault or his wifes

Blindinglybaffled · 21/10/2026 19:05

Periperi2025 · 21/10/2026 18:16

If they'd just left Harry to have a long military career they wouldn't have half these problems. He had a messed up childhood started to find his way and then that got messed up too. I think he's allowed to have a few familiy issues. The only reason his family issues are so public is because his family is so public, it is simply a reflection of his life.

I don't know anyone who asked their grandmother for permission to name their child.

As for Megan she has married into a complex family, to a guy with complex trauma and she's still there, which is quite something, most people would be divorced in that scenerio and that's without the added pressure of media and public scrutiny.

A long military career would have been great for him but sadly he lacked the brains to pass the course to progress up to the next rank….and it would’ve been very embarrassing for him to remain just a Captain and would’ve been very wrong for them to give him an undeserved leg up…

Chilly80 · 21/10/2026 19:05

They are both awful but so is the British media they will paint her negatively whatever she does even if Kate does the same thing and they praise her for it.
