To think Meghan Markle isn’t the problem, it’s Harry?

I don’t understand why Meghan is so often treated as the driving force behind everything people dislike about them, while Harry is portrayed as some helpless man who’s been led astray.

He’s a grown man with his own opinions and the ability to make his own decisions. It’s his family and presumably he has far more history with them than she does. Why is the assumption that she’s manipulated him, rather than that he has his own grievances and is doing what he wants?

You don’t have to like Meghan to recognise that Harry is responsible for his own behaviour. I actually find him more irritating, particularly the impression he gives that everyone else is responsible for his unhappiness.

AIBU to think she gets a disproportionate amount of the blame, while he gets far too much benefit of the doubt?

It’s because women get blamed for everything.
He’s a grown man and surely able to decide for himself how he lives his life.
You see the same now being said about Brooklyn Beckham - how his estrangement from his parents is all the fault of his wife or his mother.

To be fair, I think a lot of men go along with family dynamics they really don’t like until they marry and have a new primary support person on board. So it looks like the wife put them up to it, but actually it’s stuff that’s long standing. I find a lot of men very avoidant.

Coming back to the UK to sponge their security costs from the taxpayer, just as Netflix ditch them and the money runs out.

Most of your rationale for what they did wrong is based on baseless tabloid headlines. The issue of security isn’t cut and dried. Harry was thrust into a public position by virtue of his birth and there is risk associated with that position. Terrorists attacked his aunt because she was the child of the monarch. His relatives were murdered by the IRA.

You don't need permission to write your autobiography or pick a name for your child.

No but would you slag off your family in your book? Just to sell copies. After all the very title was a dig at his dad and the only story to be reported was the fight with William

The name I do tend to agree with you, however it's well known the late Queen was very traditional and this was a very personal thing to her being given it by her parents as a nickname, so it would have been nice to tell her in advance

I’m sure the tabloids make up all sorts of nonsense but it does sound like she wasn’t very well prepared for the reality of joining the Royal Family, which can really only be Harry’s fault.

Of course she knew what she was getting in to!
She was a grown woman with lots of experience of the world of media and celebrity and obsessed with the royals.
She said that to cause drama and give her the excuse she needed to leave.
Anyone who thinks otherwise is naive.

If you've ever been in a coercively controlled relationship you can see red flags abound surrounding Meghan.

Yes. I agree. Her body language when they are out together is creepy. It's almost as if he is manacled to her . She always seems to be grabbing at him. And she looks at his face as if she is monitoring what comes out of his mouth.

Yes and he worked as a royal, which generated income to the United Kingdom because most tourists come because of the history and royalty.. when he gave that up he stopped contributing, moved abroad and still expected security... sorry no. The government doesn't pay for Nigel Farages security for example or a better example Brooklyn Beckham who's only famous because of his birth

NerrSnerr · 21/10/2026 17:20

Bloody hell. People are talking as if the royal family are the height of morality. The queen and Charles have supported Andrew over the years. Numerous affairs, the huge scandals of the 90s, dodgy dealings etc.

They’re all as bad as each other. Harry is no worse than the rest of them. I don’t think I want the RF abolished though, it’s quite entertaining (especially the threads on here written by fantasists who pretend they know everyone’s inner thoughts).

Charlenedickens · 21/10/2026 17:21

It’s both of them, ckearly Harry didn’t decide he wanted to become an a lister m hang out wirh a listers and make money by doing Netflix shit, that’s all Megan but everything else js him

andi thinj he’s the one driving it now in the uk as they failed in the USA

mugglewump · 21/10/2026 17:21

Neither are to blame.

Personally, I think the fault lies with the tabloid press and the 'Royals Machine'.

SixTimesALady · 21/10/2026 17:22

"The problem"? What problem?

The government does pay for security for Nigel Farage. It had recently been confirmed. Even though he has never held a position of state. Harry has been forced into a position of state.

The analogy with a Beckham doesn’t hold. His parents were not monarchs.

Comtesse · 21/10/2026 17:23

Why is this on AIBU?? Keep this on the Royal board - no one else gives a stuff!

What rhey made them want to live in America and hang out with a listers cash in by selling trash talk in his family? Confused

That's very kind of her.

Does she use a kettle or a saucepan? 😁

And why does it need to be boiled?

@ImmortalNowBabyDoll Why on earth would Meghan want to call her daughter after the Head of the family that you claim to hate/be wronged by?? It doesn't make sense. Again its simply a money making scam....and slap across the face to the late Queen as it was a private nickname.

SiberFox · 21/10/2026 17:24

I'm not seeing any benefit of doubt extended to him anymore. Since their move to the UK especially they have both allienated everyone who had been neutral before. Harry more so as he's been more vocal.

Branwellgirl · 21/10/2026 17:25

I think they’re a good match. Take that how you will.
It’s a shame she couldn’t hack it here the first time round; they were a breath of fresh air.
Anyone read ’Revenge’ by Tom Bower?
Proper eye opener.

If you’re a British taxpayer, then you clearly haven’t been paying attention.

ImmortalNowBabyDoll · 21/10/2026 16:35

To blame for what? They've done nothing wrong except live their lives.

This.

There is no problem with either Harry or Meghan.

The "problem" is the rest of that bizarre family, the utterly weird individuals in it, and the fact this country still venerates and grovels to a bunch of upper-class twits simply because one of them gets to wear a magic hat now and again.

LemonTT · 21/10/2026 17:10

Are you saying people should never speak out about their issues and problems because there is a moral imperative to keep family secrets.

That’s a perverse and unhealthy morality.

Modern society teaches people to speak out even against family.

No not at all. I mean speak to a therapist, or other medical health professional.
Get some closure on issues that have caused you trauma.
What have Harry and Meghan actually gained from the damaging and hurtful interviews they have given? My thought's are that they have gained nothing by doing it so publicly after they previously expressed a desire for privacy.
And now here they are back in the UK.
It's not perverse to not want to berate your family to the world.

And that’s their own behaviour and not to be blamed on women as it inevitably usually is.
If my other half objects to something I suggest, he’ll say so and vice versa.

Blindinglybaffled · 21/10/2026 17:29

Harry is a proven liar, she has definitely told some fibs too but you can’t blame her for his dreadful behaviour - he’s an adult and desperately needs to grow up!!

wishingyouwell · 21/10/2026 17:32

She is a woman and is Black so will always be treated less favourably by the Daily Mail masses etc, many of whom hold subconscious bias and would not recognise themselves as racists.

Yogabearmous · 21/10/2026 17:32

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 21/10/2026 17:11

She pretended to the whole world that her children wouldn’t get prince and princess titles because they were too dark, that’s an outrageous accusation and incorrect as they weren’t due the titles until the queen died which they all knew.

This.
people always forget this happened, but it was stated clearly on the Oprah interview and it was a blatant lie. Harry just sat there whilst this was said.
awful.
