Antisemitism here in the UK is appalling.

I was once a 'Grren' no more due to the hatred Antisemitism in the party.

Jewish students work together at a table at school

Schools should recognise antisemitism as distinct form of harm, review says

The government is expected to accept all 27 recommendations made in the review by ex-Ofsted boss, Sir David Bell.

David Baddiel visited his old school & was shocked by the security measures that had been brought in since he attended as a child.
That day, the school was carrying out its usual security drill, the sort seen in American schools, the land of unrestricted guns.
The security drills that Jewish schools have to carry out to keep children & staff safe.
The security drills that you wouldn’t expect to see in a UK school.
The camera team weren’t allowed to film the drill for fear of broadcasting information that could be used against the school.

This is for children, at school in the UK.
😥

No indeed.

And Israel did not 'retaliate' for some days, and the marches and the gleeful joy at Jewish deaths had already been celebrated for days by then by some in the West.

Hamas knew what they were doing. They knew an attack on that scale would trigger a response. Yet somehow this murderous death cult (and believe me, Jews are just the start, Hamas wants the death of everyone who does not adhere to their warped version of Islam to die) won the propaganda war. HOw did that happen? How did these murderers become the darlings of the thick and vocal?

I've no idea, but the idea that any regime run by Hamas would welcome Jews, gay people, supporters of democracy, women and non adherents to Islamism is strange and perverse. Why do they hitch their wagon to intolerance and bigotry?

Wow. Thats racism right there. Jewish people in Israel killed them, members of the IDF.

You realise that not everyone in the IDF is Jewish right? Although I don't see why it would be relevant if they were.

It’s much wider. My kids harassed on the bus as Jewish (can tell by uniform). Those harassing are not “terrorists” but students from other schools who support the “Palestine” cause.

Yes, Jewish good friends of ours DC have exactly this. They have been spat at on the bus. Other DC have been verbally abusive even calling them murderers. They are repeatedly told get out of Gaza. The Green party announcement will no doubt have made this worse.

Newrumpus · 22/10/2026 09:25

It’s disgusting. There was a poster on here last week claiming that the Israeli government was complicit in the October 7th attacks therefore the attacks on Jews in Israel, the subsequent war and any on-going anti-semitism stirred up and blamed on the war we’re all caused by Jews being hateful to themselves and others.
It beggars belief that people who genuinely believe themselves to be anti-racist cannot see their own stupidity on this.

It's terrible that Jewish schoolchildren should feel afraid due to the appalling genocide in Palestine.

Why do Muslim schoolchildren not feel afraid due to the appalling genocide in Sudan and Syria?
Why do Buddhist schoolchildren not feel afraid due to the appalling genocide in Myanmar?
Why do ethnic Chinese schooolchildren not feel afraid due to the appalling gencoide of the Uighur?
Why do Russian Orthodox schoolchildren not feel afraid due to the appalling genocide in Ukraine?

Seems only one conflict is projected onto one group.

I just haven’t told anyone except for my closest friend at DS’ school that i’m Jewish. Haven’t told work either.

I grant that the fact i’m an atheist makes it easier for me to not saying anything.

My kids at uni don't tell anyone but trusted friends. Like it's a dirty secret and something they should be ashamed of. They see casual antisemitism everywhere all the time. It's rampant.

MantleStatue · 22/10/2026 09:36

I don't tell anyone either.

DS1 after October 7 would have nightmares that someone was coming to kill us. He asked me once if he could somehow remove the Jewish blood from our veins so we would be safe.

It’s quite possible to believe that Netanyahu and his ilk are thoroughly evil and manipulative AND that children should be safe going to school or synagogue here in the UK.

The CITME board was flooded with threads like that in the immediate aftermath - claiming a false flag exercise so that the greedy Jews could get their hands on more land, denying that any rapes had happened, etc. Some threads were pure spam - just fake X posts shared without comment, which were somehow left to stand despite breaking MN rules. I have no doubt that it was part of a massive DARVO social media campaign.

The whole Palestinian issue has been weaponised by those who would excuse their antisemitism in other ways, in previous times.
I feel it's been very deliberately weaponised by wealthy and powerful players who know exactly how to manipulate Western naivety to achieve their ultimate goal of eradicating Israel and making Jewish people worldwide "fair game."

And to the poster who has tried to make a bizarre point about the Israeli flag representing all Jews. The Magen David, the Star of David, has been a Jewish symbol for hundreds and hundreds of years. A quick Google search said that a relief of it was found in a synagogue dating from the 2-3rd century. I’m assuming that when the flag was designed, the star was chosen to represent us as a country as well as being a symbol of our peoplehood.

Quite right. It's a Jewish country, it has a Jewish symbol on its flag.

How many countries have a cross in their flag (start with UK)? How many countries have a crescent? Heck, Saudi Arabia has the shahada on its flag. Yet no one bats an eyelid.

Rules for thee but not for me, I guess

Many Israelis think that too. What's your point? You think if Netanyahu is voted out next week, antisemitism will vanish?

No mainstream schools in the UK have to have the amount of security which Jewish schools have.
Please read what Jewish posters tell us.

I went to a bar mitzvah about ten years ago, and there was more security at the synagogue then than there was (or is) at the rural (obviously non-Jewish) primary school where I worked up until a few years ago.

There is no explanation (apart from antisemitism).

Hence the question gets ignored over & over again.

It certainly didn't vanish when there were more moderate leaders, including those who discussed and signed the many and various Peace Accords.

Because we all know the answer, right?
But the Free Palestine cult will never admit it.

Seeingadistance · 22/10/2026 09:46

Every few weeks I meet up with a Jewish friend - we used to be neighbours. For a few years before Oct 7th she mentioned antisemitism - that she was seeing on Facebook. At first, she saw it from people she had no connection to, then it was from friends of friends, then it was from friends. There was certainly a sense that it was getting closer and closer. She came off FB from time to time. But she was hearing it and being direct recipient of it in real life too - not just online. The circle tightening. She was increasingly distressed by it. “Why do these people hate me?!”

Then Oct 7th and the evil which had been slowly, quietly, creeping closer just burst out into the open. Free reign to express all those vile, repulsive, abhorrent thoughts and actions that had been there all the time.

There are not enough words in the world for me to express the total depravity and barbarism of what was done on Oct 7th. But there are people, ordinary people, who are … gleeful about it because it gives them a reason openly to hate Jews.

It’s as if it was constrained by memories of the Holocaust - the understanding that that was evil and must never be allowed to happen again. That shared understanding held for only so long though. It’s like pus building up under skin and creating a massive boil. On Oct 7th the boil burst and the pus just keeps pouring out.

We are living in very frightening times.

I'm so sorry 💐💐💐

I have nightmares about 7 Oct too, and I'm not even Jewish!

I can't watch films about it. I delved a bit too deep just afterwards, and wish I hadn't.

The vicious sadism involved completely altered my understanding of what humans are capable of. That horror has been compounded by the subsequent public response. I'm getting on for 70 now and feel that 7/10/23 was a watershed moment in my life, after which things feel much darker.

Edited

There was a bit of a strange thread recently, where a woman said she went into a school and she'd defaced and graffitied a picture of a staff member in the foyer.
I asked what about the security cameras? Many teachers replied that they didn't even have them in schools! Quite the contrast.

And Hezbollah!!! That is even more shocking because Hezbollah massacred Palestinians in Syria where they fought to prop up the Assad regime and committed horrendous atrocities. So someone is apparently "pro-Palestinian" but waving the flag of an organization that massacred them? It's so obvious that it's not, and has never been, about supporting acutal Palestinians.

PurpleThistle7 · 22/10/2026 09:54

We had to call police Scotland to come to our Hebrew school a couple weeks ago. We are a tiny community and meet in a church hall so no formalised security. A member took a taxi there and her 4 year old told the taxi driver where he was headed. The driver said a few unsettling things and then made a phone call in Arabic so she couldn’t understand. So we had to call the police ‘and’ she had to tell her toddler to lie next time.

My son made us get off a bus in September as I said something about getting ready for Rosh Hashanah and he was scared someone heard us and would hurt us. So we hopped off the bus, had a hot chocolate and got on another one. We have to speak in whispers now but I just try not to say anything around strangers as I can’t tell him he’s wrong.

ginkhao · 22/10/2026 09:58

The irony of all of this is that it just makes it clear why it is essential that there is a State of Israel, warts and all. At least now, Jews always have somewhere to go when things go tits up. Antisemitism benefits the zionist cause.
