Jewish children and families in the UK face a sharp rise in antisemitism and school-related safety fears, highlighted by a major government-backed review.
Key Findings and Statistics
• High Prevalence: An independent review published by Sir David Bell in October 2026 found that three in five (60%) Jewish pupils aged 16–19 in English schools have experienced or witnessed antisemitism.
• Surge in Incidents: The Community Security Trust (CST) recorded 178 anti-Semitic school-related incidents in the first half of 2026 alone—a 59% increase compared to the same period the previous year.
• Under-Reporting: Around half of the students who experienced or witnessed antisemitic incidents stated that they were never formally reported.
• Heavy Security: Jewish faith schools operate under severe security infrastructure, including high metal fencing, stab-proof vest-wearing guards at gates, CCTV, and regular police patrols. Headteachers report spending more time managing security threats than educational matters.
This is shameful. We should do better.
