Airbnb, how many towels per person, would you expect to be provided?

I stayed at an Airbnb last weekend with my daughter and we were provided with 1 bath towel for the 2 of us! We let it go as only for 2 nights.

Now I'm in Spain with my DH for a longer period. The flat is lovely, but only 2 bath towels provided! How do hosts expect people to dry their hair when stepping out of a shower! My DH is on the case and is getting 2 hand towels delivered later.

AIBU to expect 2 towels?

so which do you get to dry - your body or your hair?

I ring mine out in the shower, try my body which takes all of about 30-60 seconds then wrap my hair in that towel.
I don’t use separate towels. Then I Chuck on clothes and take towel off hair. Brush and ready to go.
maybe it’s different for people with really thick hair though. Mines long but fine so dries quickly

I think you've answered a different question from the one in the OP. This might be the number you'd hope for, but if you're realistic then the best you could expect would be a bath towel and a hand towel per person, one bath mat per bathroom, and a tea towel or two (assuming there's a kitchen).

I'd also hope for a hand towel per washbasin, but I wouldn't expect it. The standard in my experience is for this not to be present. As a family we usually get by as two of us have short hair and donate our smaller towels for general handwashing use. The others keep their smaller towels for their hair.

Very true. The standard is 2 and when i get that i m ok. But i would xpect 3 but only happens in hotels

Maybe it’s a thing, now. We recently stayed in two (nice, certainly not cheap) hotels in Leamington Spa and Stratford-Upon-Avon and in both the room only had one bath towel - for two people. We had to request more. I understand the environmental pressure to cut down on laundry, but come on, we don’t share bath towels at home, so I am certainly not paying for the privilege!

I would guess this was just an oversight. I haven't seen any hotels with policies of expecting guests to share towels, and on rare occasions when we haven't been provided with two towels each, additional towels were provided on request along with apologies for the omission.

Do people really not just take their own towels?
I always take my own.

Maybe If I was travelling by car or had a large check in case I may stick an extra towel in to be used by the pool / beach but if I’ve only got a carry-on, I’m not going to fill it with towels!

You really have “no idea” how to use a towel for your hair? 😂 come off it.

I would have no idea what to do with the second towel when I have a perfectly serviceable bath towel which I used for both my hair and body my whole entire life. Do you not have something you do habitually and have done a certain way since you were a child and feel a bit perplexed when people assume you need additional implements to complete the same task?

Yes possibly just an oversight, but if so, it was a coincidence that it happened in two different hotels in the same week (and hasn’t happened before).

Not the point of the thread, but I think having a separate towel for your hair is really twatty

You clearly don’t have hair that soaks up water

tealandteal · 21/10/2026 15:05

I don’t run an air b and b but when I have guest I provide them with a hand towel in the bathroom and 1 large and 1 smaller towel per person. In the airing cupboard there are hand towels and hair towels which are a bit bigger so they can wrap around your head but not so big as to be too heavy.

Assume you have very short or fine hair? It's impossible to get your body properly dry if your hair is dripping all over you. My hair towel is soaking wet even after ringing my hair so I always have a smaller separate hair towel.

At an airbnb i expect 1 bath towel each, 1 smaller face/hand towel each. Then a bath mat and hand towel per bathroom.

At home I manage with one towel with long hair so if there was just 1 then I'd be fine. Definitely not sharing with another person though!

Alwayswonderedwhy · 21/10/2026 16:56

I'd like a hand towel, bath sheets & hair towel ideally but would expect a bath & hand towel.
Would also want them changing every few days.

spanishcheese · 21/10/2026 17:02

We run Airbnb and provide for each person:
One large bath towel each
One hand towel each
Flannels each
A bath mat

Refreshed if staying longer than a week.

Is your large bath towel a bath sheet? A bath towel is a set size.

It's a large bath towel, described as a bath sheet by Asda where we bought them, though IKEA do slightly larger ones. Most hotels I've stayed in don't provide towels as large as ours.

Askandyforcompo · 21/10/2026 17:32

My mind is blown. No separate towel for hair?!

I provide a bath sheet and hand towel per person plus a hand towel In the bathroom with spares in the cupboard as I can't be bothered arguing with guests over towels. Or indeed toilet paper so I provide loads of that too.

I take a towel for my hair as the towels are never large enough. Lol

LemonadeQueen · 21/10/2026 17:41

Long thick curly hair, 1 bath sheet but id be lucky if a hand towel holds all my hair in lol so either take one of my own beach towels for hair or if on a cruise or in a hotel, hand towels seem particularly small just ask for another body towel.

mondaytosunday · 21/10/2026 17:53

I provide a two towels per person.

Madmother63 · 21/10/2026 18:05

Thank you for all your replies. I've finally got extra towels today. I asked about tea towels too. Apparently they don't provide them.

I sent DH out for a couple of cheap ones, so we will try to remember to take them to our next Airbnb.
He also brought a cereal bowl as we only have one. I stopped him buying scissors as I don't want to equip the whole place.

I run a holiday let in England and we always get comments of how well equipped it is. I guess different places have different ideas!

I try to bring tea towels and paper towels. It’s awful trying to keep a place today without those basics.

I feel immediately that it’s miserly when they don’t have more than one tea towel!

queenceleste · 21/10/2026 21:09

Tidy!

Yes, bath sheet is the optimum size to provide. Bath towels are just too small, unless you're a slim guy and just want to wrap it round your waist.

JustAMiddleAgedDirtBagBaby · 22/10/2026 13:24

Has anyone else read this whole thread and now finds the word 'towel' completely meaningless?

Never owned a bath sheet and I do just fine! I am not a slim guy.
