Airbnb, how many towels per person, would you expect to be provided?

I stayed at an Airbnb last weekend with my daughter and we were provided with 1 bath towel for the 2 of us! We let it go as only for 2 nights.

Now I'm in Spain with my DH for a longer period. The flat is lovely, but only 2 bath towels provided! How do hosts expect people to dry their hair when stepping out of a shower! My DH is on the case and is getting 2 hand towels delivered later.

AIBU to expect 2 towels?

Bath towel and hand towel per person. Hand towel per toilet/bathroom. Although sometimes the latter have to be stolen from any men in the party.

@OriginalSkang tell us you’ve got short hair without telling us you’ve got short hair! A quick towel ruffle before drying your body doesn’t cut it for anything longer than a couple of inches

iloveanearlynight · 21/10/2026 09:54

I find this kind of thing infuriating. One bath SHEET per adult (towels are not big enough) and one hand towel each. Preferably in different colours so each person knows which are theirs.

How do you dry yourself when your hair is dripping all over you? Or conversely do you leave a pool of water all over the floor because your wet body is dripping while you dry your hair first? Surely it’s easier to throw a turban round your hair while you dry your body?

It has never been a problem for me, honestly. I get out of the shower, dry my body, use the same towel to dry my hair, then do an extra pat around the shoulders and back. Get dressed. Blow dry my hair.
If the towel is big enough (which, granted, AirBnB towels rarely are) then I use the ends of the towel to dry my hair while the rest of the towel is still wrapped around my back.
When I stay at my friend's she always gives me a separate towel for my hair and I have no idea what I am supposed to do with it.

bananaapplepears · 21/10/2026 09:58

I've never used a separate hair towel and didn't realise others did. I'd expect one bath towel/sheet per person in an Air BnB.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 21/10/2026 10:00

Two towels. I recently stayed in a very cheap hotel and even there I got two towels, one hand and one bath sheet. I have very short hair and don't need a separate hair towel but I do like to have a small towel for hand drying.

Tortephant · 21/10/2026 10:18

A separate hair towel? Wow. Why?

I think you've answered a different question from the one in the OP. This might be the number you'd hope for, but if you're realistic then the best you could expect would be a bath towel and a hand towel per person, one bath mat per bathroom, and a tea towel or two (assuming there's a kitchen).

I'd also hope for a hand towel per washbasin, but I wouldn't expect it. The standard in my experience is for this not to be present. As a family we usually get by as two of us have short hair and donate our smaller towels for general handwashing use. The others keep their smaller towels for their hair.

underseige05 · 21/10/2026 10:27

One bath towel and one hand/hair towel per person and a bath mat for a long weekend.
We went away to an airb&b a couple of years ago that had a hot tub and it said all towels provided. They left us with 1 hand towel and 1 bath towel between us. We let them know and asked for more but nothing arrived till the night before we checked out. Luckily we had decided that we couldn't risk waiting and we bought 2 big bath sheets for the factory outlet store down the road. No apology they just appeared while we were out 🙈

GinToBegin · 21/10/2026 10:32

I’d expect a hand towel and a bath towel (preferably a bath sheet) per person, plus a hand towel in the kitchen and in any separate toilets. Oh, and a mat of some sort to stop the floor becoming wet and slippery. Anything less feels stingy.

Shinyhappyapple · 21/10/2026 10:34

I expect a bath towel and a hand towel PP, plus an extra hand towel if there is a separate toilet and handbasin away from the bedrooms. Mostly we are lucky and find that if the accommodation actually sleeps more people than we’ve booked it for, then we get the extra towels provided .

averylongtimeago · 21/10/2026 10:34

I list our cottage with Air (and other OTAs)
and I would expect a hand and bath/shower towel each as a minimum. I would think there should also be a washable bath mat, another hand towel in each bathroom plus kitchen towel and tea towels.
If you are not supplied with the correct number of towels, contact the owner right away. It maybe she (or the housekeeper) has made a mistake or if normal practice for them they need a wake up call that it’s not acceptable.

To wrap your hair in to stop the wet hair dripping on the rest of your body while you dry off. I assumed everyone did this, unless they had very short hair. And even if you have short hair yourself, have you not seen other women wrap their hair up when it’s wet?

For a weekend I give a massive bath sheet each, 2 x hand towel and 2 x bath mats per bathroom.
When I had long hair I appreciated another hand towel for hair drying so I leave a stack in the linen cupboard
Having said that we live on tank water in a very dry area so I’d prefer it if people brought their own hair turban or I find people ransack the towels and we wash needlessly

I don't think you need two bath mats per bathroom for a weekend. Or a week, actually.

I find across the board with Airbnb properties that you get one towel each. Less is ridiculous.
laundry is clearly a huge cost but the rents are not cheap either.

I don’t know whether I’ve been lucky or you are u lucky but that’s not been my experience .

lifeonourplanet · 21/10/2026 10:52

i would expect one hand towel and one bath towel person. I have long her so wrap the hand towel around it (but it still doesn't cover it). Hate it when I stay in hotels and there's only one of each. I then have to use the one for hand drying as well, so they're always damp.

CarlaH · 21/10/2026 10:52

I want one bath sheet and one hand towel, for hair. I towel dry my hair a bit before putting the conditioner on and then use it again afterwards as a turban. I don't want my bath sheet to be wet from my hair drying when I want to wrap it round me after a bath or shower.

Ophy83 · 21/10/2026 10:55

We used to let a house through cottages.com. As a minimum they require 2 towels per guest. I also left separate hand towels and bath mats in the bathrooms.

As a guest though I always pack a hair turban - hand towels are too small!

notanothernamesurely · 21/10/2026 10:56

One per person. Plus a hand towel

JustAnotherWhinger · 21/10/2026 11:06

We give a bath sheet and hand towel per person. A bath mat and hand towel per bathroom. I also give a hair turban per bathroom as well, but only have 3 left of my 20 as they’ve all been stolen. I had decided I wouldn’t be buying more as they’re by far the most pinched item, but it gets commented positively on a lot in our reviews so I may need to reconsider.

Itsasecretnow · 21/10/2026 11:09

I take a large, microfibre towel with me for my hair, wherever I go as I have long hair, plus the microfibre towels are generally less damaging to your hair. We got them from an outdoor/camping shop and they fold up very small, weigh hardly anything, and dry quickly. I only use them at home as well.

Granville82 · 21/10/2026 11:09

I would expect 2-3 towels per person - one bath, two hand or one bath, one hand and one face.

Plus at least one hand towel and bath mat in each bathrooms.

I have shoulder blade length hair. No. Never done that and why would I need to?

no never seen anyone do that and don’t know where or why I would be in a bathroom with another woman!

So you don't go swimming or to a gym?
