Airbnb, how many towels per person, would you expect to be provided?

I stayed at an Airbnb last weekend with my daughter and we were provided with 1 bath towel for the 2 of us! We let it go as only for 2 nights.

Now I'm in Spain with my DH for a longer period. The flat is lovely, but only 2 bath towels provided! How do hosts expect people to dry their hair when stepping out of a shower! My DH is on the case and is getting 2 hand towels delivered later.

AIBU to expect 2 towels?

One bath towel and one hand towel per person

TreeDudette · 21/10/2026 09:13

Normally we get 1 bath and 1 hand towel per person in an Air B&B. We don't get more towels if we stay for longer durations we just have to wash them (or bring our own which we do as my husband is a larger guy and likes 2 large bath sheets).

At an airbnb i expect 1 bath towel each, 1 smaller face/hand towel each. Then a bath mat and hand towel per bathroom.

At home I manage with one towel with long hair so if there was just 1 then I'd be fine. Definitely not sharing with another person though!

I really don't know why Mumsnet bothers to have forums with sections any more. Might as well rename the whole site "AIBU".

EveryoneUsingOutro · 21/10/2026 09:14

I would expect one large (body) and one small (hair) per person.
plus one small for everyone to dry hands at sink.
plus a bath mat to step on to.

had a few times at Air BnB when we have had to use a towel as a bath mat, as not provided!

GeorgeMichaelsCat · 21/10/2026 09:14

As pp said, one bath towel and one hand towel per person is what I would expect.

Bubblesgun · 21/10/2026 09:15

3 towels: Body, face and small one for hair bigger than hand towels though thats pp

plus bath mat (2 if staying more than a week) 1 per bathrooms
plus hand towels near every sink / basins
plus a few tea towels in kitchen

edited coz it published wrong

Not the point of the thread, but I think having a separate towel for your hair is really twatty

Denim4ever · 21/10/2026 09:17

The smaller towels are hand towels, I don't use them for my hair.

Simonjt · 21/10/2026 09:18

We do bath sheet, towel and flannel per person, then of course a hand towel in the bathroom.

How do you dry yourself when your hair is dripping all over you? Or conversely do you leave a pool of water all over the floor because your wet body is dripping while you dry your hair first? Surely it’s easier to throw a turban round your hair while you dry your body?

Wait until you hear that I use a separate fork for my dessert.

genuineflexor · 21/10/2026 09:29

For a weekend I give a massive bath sheet each, 2 x hand towel and 2 x bath mats per bathroom.
When I had long hair I appreciated another hand towel for hair drying so I leave a stack in the linen cupboard
Having said that we live on tank water in a very dry area so I’d prefer it if people brought their own hair turban or I find people ransack the towels and we wash needlessly

ErrolTheDragon · 21/10/2026 09:29

I don’t think I’ve ever stayed anywhere which didn’t provide a large and small towel per person plus a bathmat. Sometimes two if there is a separate bath and shower which is sensible, sometimes also face flannels.

You and me both.

ElizaSchuyler · 21/10/2026 09:36

I'd expect one bath towel per person and one hand towel per room.

queenceleste · 21/10/2026 09:37

I find across the board with Airbnb properties that you get one towel each. Less is ridiculous.
laundry is clearly a huge cost but the rents are not cheap either.

Yes this is standard.

Seziah · 21/10/2026 09:48

I would expect two towels per person minimum, but I’d also expect a hand towel per toilet. The place I stayed at recently had three toilets but only two of us staying (And also no bath mats) so four towels. We had to use a tea towel or two as hand towels and then I had to use my hair towel on the floor because the shower leaked. Not the end of the world but a bit annoying to not have enough towels for the people + the amount of bathrooms (and could’ve done with a spare or two in a cupboard somewhere).

Even if you forget about the dripping from wet hair, bath towels are quite big and heavy to use for your hair. It would just be annoying

It's so much more convenient. I squeeze as much water as I can out of my hair, but then you want to be able to wrap it up for a while to soak into the towel. If I have to use my bath towel it's much more faff. And I can't walk back to my bedroom with it round my head because I'm naked. Plus the bath towel will be annoyingly large on my head.
