Did something a bit silly at work

I regularly visit schools for my job. One school had to change premises to a larger school site whilst building works were being undertaken on the original school building.

The support staff of the new building were unpleasant and unfriendly- possibly because they didn’t want to share their building with another school.

Each week for the past nine months or so I’ve experienced unpleasantness with one particular member of staff on the front desk. Things like deliberately keeping me waiting to let me in and out of the building (she would pretend she wasn’t in the office, but I could see her in the reflection of one of the windows, she thought she was out of sight), abrupt manner, unhelpful, not passing on messages, rolling eyes because she has to get out of her chair to press a button to release the door, huffing because my mere presence is an inconvenience etc, you get the picture.

A couple of weeks ago we had a slight altercation, she was scowling as usual as I arrived and I asked her if everything was ok as she seemed quite unhappy to see me. She immediately became defensive and gave me a right mouthful so I calmly told her she maybe should develop some social skills given she was on the front desk 😳

I spoke to the head teacher of ‘my school’ who said she’d deal with it. Miraculously, over the next couple of weeks the doors were unlocked and she was not in the office as I walked passed. Result

Today was my last day as the school are moving back to their original premises after half term and I did something a little immature. In the foyer at the entrance is a photograph of all the school staff and their names, there was no-one around. Without thinking I got out my sharpie and drew a moustache and angry eyebrows on the picture of this person. Under her name I wrote ‘Miss Funsucker’. I did chuckle about it for the rest of the day but now I feel a bit bad and anxious I will get into trouble- it wouldn’t take Sherlock Holmes to work out it was me 😬

should I do nothing or should I do something - if so what? I know it’s a long shot but has anyone else done this?

You've obviously never heard of security cameras.

LampLightz · 19/10/2026 20:52

Ok

Nananana90 · 19/10/2026 20:53

🤣🤣🤣 this gave me a good laugh. Something I would definitely do lol

Of course I have, but there’s none in the foyer

How old are you, 12?

NoteyMcNoteface · 19/10/2026 20:53

It’ll be on the CCTV, assuming any of this actually happened, you’re going to get pulled up for this.

Eek.

You could be in a lot of trouble....

Funny yes but this could be career damaging to your salary....

FreyaJade · 19/10/2026 20:54

Although it may have been very satisfying I really don’t think that was the best idea you’ve ever had..

How strange, any school I’ve been in has them in the reception area as standard.

😁 love a bit of silliness. And it's your last day - what realistically can they do about it?

Shinyandnew1 · 19/10/2026 20:55

Please tell me this is a joke?!

You are presumably visiting schools in a professional capacity?!

Defacing school property is pathetic-I would imagine that HT won’t want you anywhere near their school in future.

All entrances and exits will be covered as standard.

Must be one of the only schools in the country that doesn’t, how convenient for you.

Saracopp · 19/10/2026 20:56

LampLightz · 19/10/2026 20:54

Of course there is.

Not where the picture board is, it’s around the corner, it’s a big foyer. It doesn’t really matter anyway, they’re bound to know it’s me

No camera means it would be very hard to prove. Although I'm sure it will be obvious you did it.

FloridaCheese · 19/10/2026 20:57

Wow. And you're an adult.

I wouldn’t say it was convenient. It was more about positioning and blind spots

So while you were on-site in a work capacity you decided to do a bit of mindless vandalism? I mean, what possessed you? I'm three years younger than you and it wouldn't even cross my mind to do something so stupid. I certainly think dark thoughts about people from time to time - that's life - but I would never go so far as to deface property. You say it will be obvious that it's you - I also find it very weird that there's no security camera - so why not fess up now and apologise? Like an adult.

You’re not wrong- it was a bit funny too though
