Adults at petting zoos/farms/kids days out

ExtraHotDoubleShot · 19/10/2026 12:42

Has anyone else noticed a massive uptick in grown adults (many in late teens and 20s) going on days out aimed at kids/young families? I’m finding it increasingly irritating - small children having to queue behind grown adults to stroke rabbits or see tanks of fish.

(Exception where there is clearly a disability at play)

And yet people who are just mentally tired (not mentally ill, just need a lift) and want to let off steam having a cuddle with a furry animal isn't allowed to help them? That's a bit one rule for you and another rule for us.

😂 all I see here are a group of people name calling and getting hugely worked up while accusing me of being ‘mean’, grasping the chance to join in with the others (no IRL friends?). What a life.

Enjoy!

Night all.

Sorry, I have decided, and my age will tell when I say this....but you sound like Victor Meldrew!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 19/10/2026 20:26

I have neither noticed this being the case nor do I think it’s wrong of adults to enjoy these things.

Better than adults all being in bars getting pissed! (I realise these aren’t the only two options in life but it still is better!)

ExtraHotDoubleShot · 19/10/2026 12:53

Yes, it’s childish. I would feel silly making a 4 year old wait so I could hold a rabbit. I’m a grown woman!

I think some people aren't teaching their children how to be patient and wait in line. Great way to install entitlement.

Just because you don't care about animals doesn't mean others don't! Especially when they will most definitely be paying more than a 4 year old.

No need to be so miserable. Adults like to do fun stuff too believe it or not.

Night night, don't let the bed bugs bite. 🐜

I bet you'll be back before the end of the night...

I’m disabled and work with small kids so I’m pretty tired and in bed by 8pm usually. Alcohol flares my condition and is actually dangerous for me.

8pm is a child's bed time. You're an adult ffs.

Stressed because her 4 year old threw a tantrum after not getting their own way it sounds like.

Buy your child their own rabbit OP if it matters to you that much.

It’s a childish activity. It seems to be in the wider picture of adults acting like kids.

Why is stroking or feeding an animal a childish activity?

EeyoresLostTail · 19/10/2026 20:36

@ExtraHotDoubleShot So do you ACTUALLY touch any of thr Animals at these place?

ByDreamyMember · 19/10/2026 20:37

Hmmm wanting to see and interact with animals is hardly a childish activity.
Seems like something pretty natural to me

Is it? Why can't adults enjoy things they like? What should they do instead?

By your logic adults shouldn't have pets either.

ExtraHotDoubleShot · 19/10/2026 12:54

I find it really petulant towards small children. But ok!

Firstly, that isn't what 'petulant' means.

Secondly, the adults have paid more for their tickets than any parent has paid for their child's ticket.

Thirdly, liking animals and wanting to experience them isn't age specific. Adults also love animals. Why do you think adults have pets? Why do you think adults go on safari holidays or feed hedgehogs in their gardens or bird-watch? If liking animals was 'childish' nobody would do any of those things. Do you not know that one of the most popular activities in care homes for elderly people is animal encounters? My dad - who was severely physically disabled but didn't have any kind of dementia or cognitive impairment - regularly held and stroked animals in his care home. It was a regular thing there, at least once a month. I have pictures of him before he died holding rabbits, piglets and lambs, playing with dogs and stroking Shetland ponies, alpacas and goats. Wanting to hold a rabbit has fuck-all to do with age. You should try it. It might bring some joy into your life.

Fourthly, I've chosen not to have kids so why do I have to change my behaviour to fit around other people's? They're not my problem, I'm afraid. The world doesn't revolve around your family.

I'm not that brave unfortunately, the playground was my limit. Surprisingly speedy I found.

Ah I may give it a miss then. It's cost me a tidy sum to hopefully get my neck and shoulders right again. Sounds like even a playground zip wire will undo it all.

The OP created it and she's been very unpleasant on it.

Because it encourages them to infantilise themselves. We’re adults for gods sake 😂

There's nothing infantile about liking animals.

Where does it say looking at fish, stroking a rabbit or feeding goats is exclusively for children?

Is the OP implying something sinister ....... ?

So unreasonable. I love, love animals. Always have. Every birthday have a day out with my dad, usually somewhere animal centric. Once a month or so we go to a lovely petting zoo/farm (that my dad can manage walking around now he is late 70s). There is. Lovely cafe, a butchers, antique shop and independent garden centre there as well. Much more catered to adults in my view. I found it when DS was little, me and my dad now go alone in the week my dad loves it, we feed the animals, have afternoon tea, go to the butchers and potter about the garden centre. Lovely morning out for me and my dad. Usually a lot of small children with mothers, we usually have a nice chat. You sound miserable.

Actually I'm not on tic tock - but seen people in media and on you tube commnenting on the phenomenon - and seen them show the clips - they are often funny but there is an underlying point.

It chimes with reports in media that people are buying, marrying and having kids later - and ONS data backs that as well. Also chimes with many young adults being infantliszed which I see with my own eyes.

I seek information from a variety of souces all saying same thing - socially and econicallly we are in west delaying adulthood.

Has it ever occurred to you that Gen Z and Millenials are buying houses later and therefore having kids later because of the sheer cost of everything nowadays? Sky high rents and house prices amidst suppressed wages is going to have an effect.

Have you also considered that finances aside having kids later - or not at all-or just the one child may well be the more mature and responsible thing for young people to decide to do for any number of reasons? Having kids does not equal being mature or responsible. Especially having them before you’re ready.

I used to work in schools and I’ve came across many an immature parent (of all ages) and they may well have benefited from delaying having children until they’d lived a bit more or even opting out altogether.

Who are you to say people are “delaying adulthood” because they are not achieving certain milestones as prescribed by capitalism? Buying house, having kids, marriage 🙄 not being playful anymore - it’s sad when folk act like it’s a tickbox you need to achieve before you become an adult.

“Delaying adulthood” The truth is phrases like that are absolutely mindless because there is no one way to be an adult. Times change.

Nowadays you might get a 30 year old working hard doing an important job such as nursing or teaching , traveling abroad in their holidays, politically active but they might also be- flat sharing, childfree and single and even go to petting zoos 🙄 They are no less of an adult than someone who checks all the societal milestone boxes and only goes to wine bars for entertainment.

Right? Anyone starting a post and saying they knew people would disagree and welcomes it clearly has no irl friends, hobbies or much else.

Bubblesoffun · 19/10/2026 21:18

@ExtraHotDoubleShot how sad that you have lost all your sense of joy and wonder. At what age are you going to tell your children that they’re too old for any sort of fun and indulgence? 13/14/15? Maybe if more people looked for the simple fun activities, the world would be a less grey dull place.
