Adults at petting zoos/farms/kids days out

ExtraHotDoubleShot · 19/10/2026 12:42

Has anyone else noticed a massive uptick in grown adults (many in late teens and 20s) going on days out aimed at kids/young families? I’m finding it increasingly irritating - small children having to queue behind grown adults to stroke rabbits or see tanks of fish.

(Exception where there is clearly a disability at play)

My problem with days out is that often the things I fancy doing (crafts, meeting animals, etc) are restricted to children. When I was young it wasn't like this. Will I never get to cuddle a lamb or make a corn dolly? 🤔

Ultraalox · 19/10/2026 21:21

YABU. I went to a guinea pig place with my kids and there were three ladies in what I would guess early twenties. They were having a lovely time holding the piggies. Never too old to enjoy nice things.

Omg; there are some right creeps play Warhammer. Must say though there’s also some godly like creatures. There’s a guy who I’ve seen playing warhammer (we call him a battle star galactica b**tard) while we do our yoga class and his got the most perfect hair; and well groomed beard. It’s hard to get an ick when his figure is so gorgeous. When I say figure I mean his Magnus Calgar limited edition in ultramarine colours.

Henry Cavill likes warhammer, plays warcraft online etc. All sorts of wonderful nerdy pursuits.
Love him.
King nerd.

Because adults who take joy from little kids are arseholes, there I said it 🤷‍♀️

How is adults going to a farm taking joy from little kids?

You’re making no sense at all.

Is this the right time to admit that I got a rocking horse for my 40th birthday and still ride it aged 68?

Yes! 👍🏼

Let me guess - you also think single women and men should let mums have Christmas Day off?

Everyone should have Christmas Day off work ..

Everyone should have Christmas Day off work ..

Everyone? Even nurses and care workers. And emergency workers? And thechildish adults who work with animals?

NimbleTaupeTiger · 19/10/2026 22:05

OK,.I'll own up ...
DH and I (63 and 61) went to a National Trust garden. The weather had been drizzly and we were pretty much the only people there. It was not in the school holidays so no kids either. They had a tennis net and some rubber balls and big plastic tennis racquets in a bucket so we grabbed them and played "tennis" but we were terrible but we had such a laugh 😂

I expect I shall be accused of being childish and, of course, had kids been there we wouldn't have played because it really was for kids but you only live once!

It’s a childish activity. It seems to be in the wider picture of adults acting like kids.

You sound very bored to me. Why not find something useful to do?

Narwhalsh · 19/10/2026 22:09

I think it’s good that adults surround themselves with animals, remind ourselves that there are creatures who are better than humans and that we as humans need to care for them-this also means insisting on high welfare environments for meat animals.

I’d say that your point of view is skewed only thinking about animals as entertainment.

Femalemachinest · 19/10/2026 22:09

See tanks of fish? I have 3, should I get rid of them seen as they're children activities? Or is it ok because they're in my own home?

EveryoneUsingOutro · 19/10/2026 22:09

Who says these activities are aimed at kids? It’s a wholesome, fun day out, for anyone who wants it. Contact with animals is good for everyone.

Puppy yoga and the goat farm are always sold out, always adults, near me. People need that real life interaction.

I bet you’d be complaining if the young people were out getting drunk or being lairy instead. Or on their screens all day.

Just cos you’ve got young kids doesn’t put you to the front of the queue for fun.

My mum and I always do the activities at NT properties if there aren't children waiting, or even if there are sometimes. We find the half term activities will be set up before half term. And still available after. We love a good egg and spoon race. Or joust on a wooden hobby horse!

What a small minded attitude. It’s a human activity.

I didn’t get the opportunity to go on the teacup rides, doesn’t mean I’m going to do it at 35!

Maybe you should, might lighten you up a bit.

I'm 71 and thinking of buying myself a doll's house.

They should queue… behind other kids

No adults did this when I was younger. They watched, like adults should!

Should? How sad to be beholden to a set of made up, imaginary rules. That stop you having joy and fluffy soft tummies to squidge. I give no fucks. I’m going to pet that bunny.

5128gap · 19/10/2026 22:18

Purplebunnie · 19/10/2026 20:39

Ah I may give it a miss then. It's cost me a tidy sum to hopefully get my neck and shoulders right again. Sounds like even a playground zip wire will undo it all.

That's a shame. The slide was also fun. Though I don't recommend the roundabout.

ExtraHotDoubleShot · 19/10/2026 13:02

I have a dog, I have lots of endorphins. I wouldn’t enjoy watching a 4 year old wait as I stroked a rabbit though!

A 4 year old isn’t going to expire while they wait their turn for a few minutes ffs. And the anticipation is a lovely feeling too “oooh I’m next”.

If your kids can’t wait nicely, that’s on you.

Sad and selfish to like animals and to want to hold / pet one? Fuck me. Children do not have the monopoly on this. And as someone has said above, animals are therapeutic. I have worked in care homes where we have been visited by rabbits, guinea pigs, golden retrievers and chickens. The staff enjoyed this as much as the dementia patients

I follow someone online who takes her miniature pony into care homes. He has a bow in his hair and little cloth shoes on. The residents reactions every time make me well up. It’s the most adorable thing ever.
Animals are for everyone!

ExtraHotDoubleShot · 19/10/2026 13:13

I saw adult couples and older adults with their grown up kids rushing to be first in the queue when they called the goat walk. Ill admit I did think, you sad bastards 😬

And now we are all thinking the same about you … so …

TheDevilFindsWorkForIdleMums · 19/10/2026 22:30

Adults visiting these places is what keeps them going during term time so they stay open at all for your superior crotch goblins to visit.

Aside from that your kid's British. They'll need to learn how to queue and queue well, training them with a fluffy bunny sounds ideal to me. 🫡
