Adults at petting zoos/farms/kids days out

1000 replies

ExtraHotDoubleShot · 19/10/2026 12:42

Has anyone else noticed a massive uptick in grown adults (many in late teens and 20s) going on days out aimed at kids/young families? I’m finding it increasingly irritating - small children having to queue behind grown adults to stroke rabbits or see tanks of fish.

(Exception where there is clearly a disability at play)

What?! I was asking a question. They piped up to say they’re one of the people I’m basically talking about so I asked if it actually works, given it’s treating an adult in a child like manner

But its not treating him in a "childlike manner" It's exposing him to beimg outside, around other people, with the reward of being something he enjoys. Loving animals isn't childlike. Ffs.

People with mental illnesses are not ‘weirdos’. Thats really unkind.

Diddums 🥲

I do think adults have become more childish. MIL and her friends have become quite strange in recent years, going to escape rooms and theme parks. And yet 20 years ago she had much more adult pursuits like watercolouring and going to Chelsea flower show.

@SiegfriedSassoon what! You think Escape Rooms aren't for adults? Have you ever done one? I can assure you most kids would probably struggle with some of the Escape rooms we've been in.

Escape rooms for us are great multi generational thing to do, older DC, us and GPs

No it's not. Adults who liked petting animals as children still like it.

@DebbieSavage
Indeed. Though they can't be any worse than adults who play with little toy soldiers.

I'm not on board with toy soldiers but Peter Cushing was a fine actor...

Oof, thats a LOT of comments you've spent time making... to say you're boring and terribly grown up.

Those of us who haven't put down childish things, still have fun, alongside being an adult... pity you.

My DP's warhammer is on the shelf... alongside my fantasy miniatures, scratchbuild models, paintings and drawings. Our home is full of art, creations, animals... and fun.

Betting yours is a cold grey box.

I don't mind that too much, my pet hate is adults pushing their children in front of my children which seems to happen all too frequently.

What do doctors have to do with it?

Purplebunnie · 19/10/2026 18:01

@sittingonabeach only wish I'd found the Swannery earlier in life, it was a wonderful day out if a trifle smelly😂I plan to return

@5128gap I was thinking more that one in Wales which is extremely long. If the sports massage that I've had has done the trick I may attempt one in a playground but at the moment I feel a bit ... delicate shall we say

Edited to hopefully make sense

And adults who go to petting zoos do not "have issues".

PurpleCamel · 19/10/2026 18:02

Honestly I think adults are often just as likely to get as much out of it as children! Childfree adults are also almost definitely subsidising family tickets.

It's also surprisingly difficult to find dog free spaces to go on walks in - often we will look to visit places that have these sort of events in / will go to the zoo etc despite being adults because I want to get out of the house and walk around in a non urban environment, but not have to deal with dogs (or at least dogs that aren't on leads) and these spaces are often safe.

This has got to be fake.. surely no-one is this thick or judgemental?

I didn’t get the opportunity to go on the teacup rides, doesn’t mean I’m going to do it at 35!

The teacups are the best, followed closely by chair o planes. Spinning those cups as fast as you can is so fun.

And posting rage bait online is a mature hobby?

I'd rather spend time the the ones feeding the goats than the rage baiters.

When I see words "grown adult" it is very probable that the poster is soo focused on their own interpretation of what people "should" do and what is "proper".

It sounds that this part of the posters missed the memo that adults are allowed to have fun and hobies nowadays, and are annoyed that no-one told them in time.

Board games, lego, escape rooms, adrenaline activities, all of them are more focused on adults than on children now.
Newer generation of big cartoon movies isn't specifically focused on children, but is built to be accessible for children while enjoyable for adults as well - I mean things like Inside out or the Song of the sea.

Zoos and farms run programs focused on adults, because it is a different market and because many adults went into sensible careers first, but want to spend time at their interests.

And it isn't new that adults want to have fun, it is just more visible as some of them are not masking their interest by having children with them.

Animal yoga?! Do tell

It’s called animal therapy and stretch. Basically a stretch class with guinea pigs or cats or goats, whatever you want

I don’t care what people do but I find grown adults rushing to queue to hold hamsters so little kids get less time to do it, sad and a bit selfish 🤷‍♀️ the fact this view has caused such massive uproar is hilarious

I think adults who have forgotten how to have fun, or who judge other adults as being childish to be a bit sad. But here we are. Hmm

NCOneDayOnly · 19/10/2026 18:13

I think it’s absolutely fine for adults to do anything that’s - apparently - ‘for kids’. A bit like how kids have become - apparently - permitted to take over some of my favourite things to do and ruined it for adults… like running around and/or screaming/shouting in restaurants and pubs whilst a good percentage of the parents either pretend not to notice or encourage them to get increasingly unruly and are either gloriously unaware or don’t give a shit that every other patron in the place thinks they’re (the parents, as well as the kids) acting like entitled cunts.

sittingonabeach · 19/10/2026 18:15

I remember catching MIL combing the mane on DC's sylvanian pony, when she didn't think anyone was there. It was sweet

DH’s warhammer is boxed up in the garage fortunately for when DS is older… we wouldn’t share a bed if he still played with it!

Will he play with it with DS?

I take it you haven’t seen the adult babies 😬 a very unsettling group of people.

No idea, DS might now even want it, he might be into ballet. He’s too young to know.
