To be fair, there's plenty of rape in the Bible.

I never understand people who say "X is in the Bible."

"Rape is in the bible." "Murder is in the Bible." So what?

A descriptive statement of something happening is not an endorsement thereof.

I've read history textbooks that contained information about the Nazis. That does not mean the history textbook was endorsing the Nazis.

He used a bible as a prop in an earlier court appearance but was called out by Piers Morgan. The video clip is painful to watch as it becomes obvious that the carefully marked pages were … a charade?

Edit. I dont know why the link doesnt show the thumbnail picture. Google “Russel Brand reads the bible Piers Morgan youtube”/

@shuggles we are not pretending - plenty of women can be repulsed by him as attracted and they are the ones here

nobody is denying many women thought him great

I do find it a bit galling that everyone fawned over Mr Brand while he was insufferably woke.
He then became pretty much the opposite which is something I respect as he swam against the fashionable tide, but of course he lost favour with the middle classes.
I don't make comment about what he's on trial for only that I strongly dislike the string 'em up mentality that we have when a man isn't even convicted- and the lack of interest when it's an awkward demographic that has been proven to commit sex crimes (can't help but notice the hypocrisy).
I don't like the religious stuff, that makes me uncomfortable but obviously no reason to absolutely hate someone- just I can't take someone so mired in religion seriously.
What I will say is that Russell Brand has kids- just remember that when you're throwing out all this vitriol over an as yet un-convicted man.
Horrible mob mentality. It's all hearsay that you're happily spouting at the moment- poster upthread saying "of course he did it"- oh well no point going to court really.
Whether guilty or not you've all fucked up his and his family's life. Nice.

Are you for real?
Oh, you're a poor man who is fed up of women ruining "innocent" men's lives.

cornflakecrunchie · Yesterday 20:20

If girls / women were attracted to him, I can only assume they had very low self esteem..

Brands wife, or one of those people don’t have a problem with sexual assault unless it happens to them, and there are a surprising number of those.

Everyone in this thread can say they are repulsed by Russell Brand. But the fact is (putting aside the abhorrent rape allegations), there were women who were attracted to him that pursued him.

He's hardly an unattractive man if there were women who wanted to have a relationship with him.

Edited

Nobody has said otherwise…

The women on this thread have said they found and find him repulsive. There were absolutely other women who found him attractive. A (much, much) smaller number now who maybe still find him attractive. Where has anyone said otherwise?

Sometimes in your posts you sound annoyed or angry with women for sharing their personal opinion even when they don’t claim to speak for all women.

MinnieM101 · Yesterday 20:21

I read a book about him written by an ex gf of his . Can’t remember the setting or anything else but he came across as an odious secretion ( went to write cretin but that came up and works just as well ) .

Poor choice of words which I edited.

Tinydanceer · Yesterday 20:24

@BrotherOswin he has fucked up his own life! Him and him only

he has already admitted to doing abhorrent things so 💁🏻‍♀️ that’s enough for us

it’s for him and his wife to worry about his children - maybe he should have pleaded guilty to limit what’s out there

He is a lesson in this:

He looks repugnant. He's always been creepy. And he is.

Actually to have sex with a woman then physically dominate her, 'flip her over', put her on all fours and penetrate her anally, while she screams and begs for him to stop, and then afterwards he says 'clean up the mess you've made' - of 'blood, semen and faeces' - how can we even find words to describe such a devil.

No punishment is too bad for him.

Somebody posted a link to ITV - I can’t find it scrolling back…can anyone direct me to it

not the channel 4 one

Listening to the news earlier - nteresting make up of the jury - 8 men and 4 women.

That could make them more likely to convict. I seem to remember research showing women are harder on women complainants in sex cases. I don’t know how reliable it is though.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Brand's joking on Jonathan Woss's Radio 2 programne about having slept with Andrew Sach's granddaughter, and their 'prank' calls to the actor. (Woss lost his show.)

I was going to say that was when I went off Brand; until then I was pretty-much indifferent to him.

In the St Trinians film he wasn't too bad, though I felt he was simply type-cast and not really having to act, but the following year his pose stopped being amusing. He resigned from the BBC, which was about the only thing to be said in his favour at the time. Oh, and Sachs later said Brand wrote him a contrite letter of apology, which I suppose is a sign of grace.

(I went off Ross as well, and find him repulsive too. I don't think he was sacked by the BBC; I'm fairly sure he was suspended without pay for twelve weeks and then his Friday night show resumed and ran until 2010. So he got off lightly, on the whole.)

LittleGreenDuck · Yesterday 20:37

He’s always been a dirty bag of carrots. Utterly repulsive. He’s clearly a slimy horrible sleazeball. I suspect he’ll be found Not Guilty, sadly.

Reading the reporting from court, one thing that stood out to me is that he said he didn’t even remember one of the alleged victims. Well no, he wouldn’t. They’re not actual people to him, just vessels to get his fix.

Yes - they both should have been cancelled for good then

how could they not think it would distress Andrew Sachs…says so much about brand and how out of reality he is

Yes your right

although I do think he’ll be found guilty

Ilovemyshed · Yesterday 20:47

He is a creep.

However, innocent or guilty perhaps best to let the jury decide based on the factual evidence.

Yes Ross and Brand just exploited an unsuspecting woman and her family - casually. There are so many women who have complained about Russell humiliating them - Katherine Ryan, Lorraine Kelly, Vanessa Feltz, Dannii Minogue. As well as random members of the audience and crew that he pursued. He got away with far too much for so long.

I can just imagine the linguistic rollercoaster he will unleash afterwards, a combination of narcissistic wittering and highly religious forgiveness for those who falsely accused him in a ‘they know not what they do’ fallen messiah style. He’s intelligent and will try to manipulate any situation to his advantage, unlikely to just scurry away into obscurity sadly.

This is an interesting read with mentions regarding Chris Evans and Chris Moyles who while I do t think were anywhere in Brand’s league sailed close to the wind with various comments back in the day.

Article talks about the late 90s and early 00s being a time when it was more acceptable to joke about some pretty awful stuff regarding women.

Which rings true for my memories of the time. I’m pretty sure i remember Chris Evans interviewing Brand who was merrily telling stories of shagging young groupies, etc and Evans lapping it up and laughing about it.

https://www.theatlantic.com/culture/archive/2023/09/russell-brand-allegations-aughts-media/675369/

I I think another thing which won’t go In Brands favour is his previous boasting of reckless sexual exploits. Some of which when you look back are pretty much described by himself as being non consensual.
