I just saw him on the news & his wife appears to be sticking up for him.
@FeelSoSorry he reminds me a bit of the jester from Rentaghost.

Debbie, why did you marry multimillionaire Paul Daniels...

Tinydanceer · Yesterday 19:57

@Lifeomars Very telling you didn’t want them in the house…his filth seeping in - says a lot imv

wanttokickoffbutcant · Yesterday 19:58

He makes me feel queasy - always has. Arrogant and dirty looking.

famouslee · Yesterday 19:58

I met him through work and had to look after him as loads of the females on the team were giddy about him coming in. I always found him repulsive so wasn’t bothered about dealing with him. He was, as you’d expect, a mad eyed creep. Really sinister energy to him and his hair was dirty.

letmebetheone · Yesterday 19:58

He said before going into court 'I hope there is a good outcome for everyone' or something very similar to that.

Well if its good for him then its bad for the girls.

Dont think he has grasped the idea of court.

That's offensive to the jester!

Did his arm linger too long on you?

I do find it a bit galling that everyone fawned over Mr Brand while he was insufferably woke.
He then became pretty much the opposite which is something I respect as he swam against the fashionable tide, but of course he lost favour with the middle classes.
I don't make comment about what he's on trial for only that I strongly dislike the string 'em up mentality that we have when a man isn't even convicted- and the lack of interest when it's an awkward demographic that has been proven to commit sex crimes (can't help but notice the hypocrisy).
I don't like the religious stuff, that makes me uncomfortable but obviously no reason to absolutely hate someone- just I can't take someone so mired in religion seriously.
What I will say is that Russell Brand has kids- just remember that when you're throwing out all this vitriol over an as yet un-convicted man.
Horrible mob mentality. It's all hearsay that you're happily spouting at the moment- poster upthread saying "of course he did it"- oh well no point going to court really.
Whether guilty or not you've all fucked up his and his family's life. Nice.

The Crown Prosecution Service makes clear that contempt requires a substantial risk of serious prejudice, not simply an opinion that somebody might find objectionable. I don't think the jury are going to say some random person on MN said they think he did it so I'm going to find him guilty.

Ultimately they will hear the evidence and be directed by the judge to weigh it up and not be influenced by anything they may have seen or heard outside of court. The judge will know that most juries in such a case will see/hear random stuff. I'm sure they will take their legal duties seriously.

The judge has told the jury not to look at any social media and not to discuss the case with anyone, even close family and not with each other until they are in the jury room. People generally take jury service seriously, one of my exes did and he never breathed a word about it to me despite it obviously being a big trial as it went on for several weeks.

Think it was on netflix? A number of women saying he had raped and sexually assaulted them

here - was channel 4 Dispatches

Watch Russell Brand: In Plain Sight: Dispatches | Stream free on Channel 4

I think this is the one I saw. It was harrowing.
During his stand up gigs he frequently laughs about how he would get unsuspecting young women to perform sex acts on him. He would push too hard, making them gag and their eyes water. He loved it when their tears made the mascara run down their cheeks.I
In Plain Sight, indeed.

Rationally, I know that a major plank of English Common Law is the right to trial and innocent until proven guilty but I'm slightly questioning why there has to be a trial for this: of course he did it; they wouldn't have accused him for no reason. Maybe the trial is just to determine how bad RB really has been and thus to decide the length/severity of his sentence?

Are you being serious?! Of course there has to be a trial! You can't just go around locking people up because they were accused of something, however credible their accusers are.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Brand's joking on Jonathan Woss's Radio 2 programne about having slept with Andrew Sach's granddaughter, and their 'prank' calls to the actor. (Woss lost his show.)

Meanwhile, over on the LL thread, people are falling over themselves to believe the innocence of someone who has been through not only the trial process but also the appeal process as well. It’s a funny old world.

Yes, I know, probably not wise to invite comparisons and I do understand that miscarriages of justice happen! And I also can’t stand RB and tend to believe every word of all this, but still….

Regarding him holding the crucifix, my friends rapist sat with a bible angled towards the jury. His barrister had given it to him to hold.....

To be fair, there's plenty of rape in the Bible.

Well obviously its a well known event - but hardly particularly relevant to the charges before the court. There are 1000s examples of Brand's utter disdain for women - many penned by him in his self-indulgent autobiographies.

tarheelbaby · Yesterday 20:11

Many thanks for all your comments - I'd just like to reiterate that RATIONALLY, I do know there has to be a trial and I know why. I support the rule of law. RB is definitely entitled to his day(s) in court. (But my cynical side feels like it's a waste of time and money)

Or why Bob Geldof called him a c#£t on national tv.
If you don't know it was because RB and the equally creepy Noel Fielding were chatting up and kissing 16yr old Pixie and her 16yr old pal.

Justamum36 · Yesterday 20:13

He admitted to sleeping with a 16 year old when he was 30 and then tried to excuse that by saying he was a “very young 30 year old”. There’s no 30 year old that I know that would sleep with a 16 year old! Even if he’d done nothing else, that is enough to let me know he’s disgusting. If the line is literally as young as he’s legally allowed to go it suggests he’d do worse if it were legal, and I strongly suspect he’s done a lot thinking he can get away with it.

shuggles · Yesterday 20:15

Everyone in this thread can say they are repulsed by Russell Brand. But the fact is (putting aside the abhorrent rape allegations), there were women who were attracted to him that pursued him.

He's hardly an unattractive man if there were women who wanted to have a relationship with him.
