To think this person was trying to hint at something

I've name changed because if I am being paranoid I don't want abuse.

I recently bought an advent calendar for my child that wasn't obviously Christmas themed. I see lots of people using it to countdown Chanukah and I wanted to do the same. I thought the entire calendar was so cool that I reached out to thank the creators for such a wonderful product. Their email reply back was quite nice but then in their last paragraph they wrote:
Last week a Muslim mother wrote to tell me that her family would be using our calendar as a countdown for Ramadan :) and to me that confirms a really nice thing - that it can be used to count down to any celebration!

The company is Spanish and so I assume the owner is too. It's the smiley face. I have nothing against Muslims, but I wonder if the person wrote it to hint - see, they're just like you, don't harbour any bad feelings. Or even, trying to put me off their company?

Is it me, or just why would they even write that?

Thank you, I really appreciate this x

I know that not enough posters here either know people from a similar background or are from a similar background. And ultimately we just don't shout loud enough so you can see how the poll has gone how it has

I am Jewish and have posted a lot here about the challenges my family has faced lately. I can’t see any issue here at all. I think it’s a lovely note but also appreciate all of us are under an insane amount of stress so things can different than they would have a few years ago.

ReplacingTheFilter · Yesterday 22:32

You're over thinking it. I suspect it was an opportunity to comment in a way that is also a bit promotional for them, that it is being used by people to countdown to lots of different things. Why mention Muslim? Because they were contacted by a Muslim person, so it's factual. I think it was a fair comment rather than a comment with any agenda.

I think that’s disingenuous. If it were only Israel, Israeli politicians, that were being targeted then schools and synagogues in London wouldn’t need security in stab vests. It’s pretty clear that most people associate ‘all Jews’ with Israel.

They were being inclusive, OP. Not attacking anyone at all.

you are truly vile
try going into a city centre in the UK being visibly Jewish- bloody scary
we all know which religions to fawn over and which to deride- Judaism being the most fashionable to lambast followed at some distance by Christianity
I don't believe you've missed all that

edited to add we all know which conflicts to focus on and which to conveniently ignore despite far higher csaualties- I bet you "yes, butted" October 7th even before Israel's justified fight-back, I bet you didn't virtue signal about a single hostage- a true terrorist attack- roundly ignored by cowards

Just why would they mention Muslim out of all the faiths. I was just wondering if they're trying to be antagonising or that they might not like Jewish people (because of Spain's stance) and discourage me from using their brand.

Because a Muslim mother bought the product? Honestly if a mention of a Muslim woman does this to you - seek help.

What!? That is a disgusting statement. It reminds me of the people who literally were screaming 'Free Palestine' before the bodies of the 10/7 victims were cold.

JKCoe · Yesterday 22:37

@gogogwen Was the company Grapat? If so have a quick look at their social media posts, they use emojis as punctuation pretty much every time and from what I’ve seen that message would be completely in keeping with their writing style.

She hasn't. She's just a proud anti Semite. I actually appreciate that she slipped up and said 'Jews'. Some of these people try to dress it up and hedge by saying 'Israel'. This moron is saying it with her whole chest.

Funny how you minimise the OP's feelings and also accuse her of Islamophobia. I'm going to stick my neck out and guess that if OP was Muslim and the company had written what they did about a Jewish customer, you and others would be rushing to sympathise and accuse the company of Islamophobia. There is an extreme double standard on this site as well as on everywhere else on the internet.

No I'd be saying exactly the same as I have here.

pandarific · Yesterday 22:38

@gogogwen I feel for you, and in your shoes I'd also have a moment of paranoia about it, because they could have been Making a Thing of It or they could have been genuinely expressing pleasure that a non denominational advent calendar has given pleasure. It sounds like the second in this case, but who knows, truly.

Because Islam is the second biggest faith in the world? It just seems like the most probable example?

I certainly don't agree with every policy of my government, I think you shouldn't assume that every Spaniard approves of their government's positions.

You'd be getting 'cold hard cash' on a stranger on the internet?

Are you insane?

They are probably just chuffed that their advent calendar is selling to other faiths beyond Christianity. Not sure what your problem is. You didn't get a calendar specific to your faith.

No, it's really not.
It's an email about an advent calendar. After an email from the OP about how nice it is to use it for one faith the manufacturer replied and said yes, thanks, other faiths have said that too :-)

The end. If a Muslim woman were on here asking this question I'd say exactly the same. Because why in god's name wouldnt you.

SonK · Yesterday 22:48

You are overthinking this - The company is just trying to be inclusive.

This is just what all brands generally do to attract the most customers / clients or whoever it applies to.

thank you for noticing I'm utterly incensed- no other group or religion is spoken about in this way and so openly (not without fear of losing social cache or even for fear of actual violence)- Judaism and Jews are easy targets, it's so hypocritical.

You do realise this tired trope of 'Anti-Israel isn't anti Jew' is the lefty equivalent of 'I'm not racist but...'.

Iwantanothergo · Yesterday 22:53

You seem to be going out of your way to look for and find offence where hardly anyone else can see any.

There's enough senseless hatred for Jews around at the moment without you inventing more.

Well, apart from the fact that large numbers of Jewish people agree?
