To think this person was trying to hint at something

I've name changed because if I am being paranoid I don't want abuse.

I recently bought an advent calendar for my child that wasn't obviously Christmas themed. I see lots of people using it to countdown Chanukah and I wanted to do the same. I thought the entire calendar was so cool that I reached out to thank the creators for such a wonderful product. Their email reply back was quite nice but then in their last paragraph they wrote:
Last week a Muslim mother wrote to tell me that her family would be using our calendar as a countdown for Ramadan :) and to me that confirms a really nice thing - that it can be used to count down to any celebration!

The company is Spanish and so I assume the owner is too. It's the smiley face. I have nothing against Muslims, but I wonder if the person wrote it to hint - see, they're just like you, don't harbour any bad feelings. Or even, trying to put me off their company?

Is it me, or just why would they even write that?

You think that either an international terrorist organisation or a middle Eastern country has made contact with a calendar company to bribe them to reply to emails with a mention of Muslims using their products?

What?! What other faith would they use? There’s no comment to make if it’s a Christian countdown to Christmas (or whichever day Spain traditionally celebrate). You had made the Jewish comment. I suppose they could have used Buddhist or Hindu, but they’re less mainstream in the West than Islam/Judaism/Christianity.

Why did YOU email them? To bait them into antisemitism? To remind the Spanish that Jewish people are people too who use their products just like they do?

They agreed with you that it’s a product that can be used by many faiths and noted that a Muslim mother very recently told them that she was also using the calendar for a religious countdown (religion only important in this context because the product is faith related). Then they ‘smiled’ at you, because we smile during positive human interactions. You’re massively over thinking here.

You seem good at making assumptions…you’re assuming ill intent coming from the manufacturer, and you’ve assumed that one poster agrees with you because they must come from the same background. I think you need to stop assuming.

This is why I love mumsnet! The poor company. They were celebrating a success not making a dig at your faith. It is actually really sad to think people cannot send a warm and friendly email without it being overanalysed.

I wasn't really aware all Muslims and all Jews hated each other but you learn something new every day.

I've read it about 5 times and can only see someone who was happy you and someone else of another faith enjoyed their product.

Please do try to read my post properly. I don't think the email was in any way anti-Semitic. I do, however, understand that the OP is very probably feeling very much under pressure at the moment (as many many Jewish people are) and due to this has read more into the email than the suppliers really meant.
