To think this person was trying to hint at something

I've name changed because if I am being paranoid I don't want abuse.

I recently bought an advent calendar for my child that wasn't obviously Christmas themed. I see lots of people using it to countdown Chanukah and I wanted to do the same. I thought the entire calendar was so cool that I reached out to thank the creators for such a wonderful product. Their email reply back was quite nice but then in their last paragraph they wrote:
Last week a Muslim mother wrote to tell me that her family would be using our calendar as a countdown for Ramadan :) and to me that confirms a really nice thing - that it can be used to count down to any celebration!

The company is Spanish and so I assume the owner is too. It's the smiley face. I have nothing against Muslims, but I wonder if the person wrote it to hint - see, they're just like you, don't harbour any bad feelings. Or even, trying to put me off their company?

Is it me, or just why would they even write that?

I get that. FWIW I'm not a supporter of Netanyahu or what he's doing but I shouldn't have to say that to defend myself. It was a genuine thought I had, I'm happy to be wrong, and like I said, I was expecting all the hate hence the NC for the post

You were 'expecting all the hate'?

You can't be serious.

Totally get why you might be feeling sensitive about this, it does not seem necessary to mention the faith of the other mother. And I know Spain does have a reputation at the moment IYKWIM. However, on this occasion I would put it down to trying to be overly positive or trying to shout about the universality of the item. Hugs.

if you think this thread is full of hate then you are certainly overthinking and being paranoid.

You haven't got a lot of hate!

You've got a lot of people disagreeing with you, because what you said was unreasonable.

That's nothing to do with hate.

I won't be replying anymore because I don't want this to turn into something cruel. Anything I say gets misconstrued. I appreciate the posts and and I've got the perspective I was looking for.

I’m starting to agree with the pp who asked if this is rage bait or a bad actor tbh

Just why would they mention Muslim out of all the faiths. I was just wondering if they're trying to be antagonising or that they might not like Jewish people (because of Spain's stance) and discourage me from using their brand.

Why would the mention Muslim?

…..Probably because the other email he received was from a Muslim mother, counting down to Ramadan…just as he said?

No one has misconstrued anything you've said.

ChristmasCwtch · Yesterday 21:46

It sounds like you’re looking for a reason to be offended 🙄

The email is just acknowledging that it’s an inclusive calendar that different families use to count down to different events 🤷🏼‍♀️

There is someone who has voted that I'm not being unreasonable so my thought process is at least understandable to someone (who I assume is of a similar background to me and therefore appreciates where I'm coming from)

Your thought processes are fine. Although I do think you are being unreasonable to let it bother you, I also think it's pretty stupid of the company, especially right now, not to realise that telling a Jew that Muslims also use the calendar was capable of being misinterpreted. But then again it shows the ignorance of the vast majority of people about the declared intent of radical islam to wipe Jews off the face of the planet.

They mentioned Muslims because of the Muslim woman who has written to them.

Are you usually so paranoid?

Heathertrott2 · Yesterday 21:54

If they were trying to "discourage" you, they wouldn't have advertised or sold you the calendar. She was trying to promote unity..what a shame that you chose to see it as divisive. And if you think it's bad buying products and services as a Jewish person, try booking a tradesman or gardener under the name Abdul Ali. It will be more than a "hint" that you get.

MedeaDear · Yesterday 21:54

Why would a company deliberately set out to offend part of its customer base? I think you are seeing something that isn't there @gogogwen The company sounds as though it is proud that its product is used by people of different faiths.

Superduper02 · Yesterday 21:57

I do think alot of PP here are either being totally ignorant or snide. OP asked IF she was overthinking. There is an obvious genuine reason for her sensitivity. There is no need to get snippy.

Honestly, I don't know where you've all been for the last 3 years (and more)!!

PollyPocket80 · Yesterday 21:58

Some harsh replies here. I think it was highly likely an innocent reply from the company but can see how you might fleetingly wonder...

For everyone who has berated the OP -just be glad you aren't part of a persecuted group who are living in fear to the extent that this shit even crosses your mind.

Because that's the faith that that person was??

You're unhinged.

I'm guessing it is because a Muslim mum is the only other person, prior to you, from another faith to have wrote to them. I can't imagine they get that many letters from all faiths around the world this soon after they have come out for the year.

There is no hidden meaning. They mean exacly what they say, that it is nice to see people of all faiths able to use them for their own celebrations. It was a nice response. They don't hate you

Sorry, I can't work out if you're trying to be divisive or sow the seeds of unity with your comment.... 🙄

..... because a Muslim person had told them they used it?
