To make a complaint that at an awards ceremony at school, the head teacher commented on every single girl, that got an award looks, yet didn't say one word regarding a single boys looks?

I mean I feel ungrateful but it made me feel so uncomfortable,so it was a special assembly that parents attended where one boy and one girl from each class wo an award for the previous year

the head that's usually pretty good in general, yet in every mini speech he gave about the children, every single girl had some sort of comment about being gorgeous...just made me rage
Alongside all the other comments about how hard working they are, their good values like kindness etc yet there wasn't one single comment regarding any of the boys looks

It's just so insidious and depressing

If that did really happen of course you should raise it.

Sounds so unlikely.

What comments about their looks was the Headteacher making. I find it hard to believe that he would think that would not raise a few eyebrows, and be rattling off comments about students looks, in front of their parents.

CasperGutman · Yesterday 15:22

If this happened then YANBU, but I'm having a hard time believing it. Based on the thread title, I had assumed the headteacher in question would be a woman. That would have been bad enough. But for a man to be commenting on all the girls' appearances is incredible. Surely he'd have a little bit of self awareness?!

Even just having one boy and one girl from each class is pretty dated now, instead of just picking two children from each class, with no regard given to gender.
Sounds like something that died out in the 80s. Or should have.

Hoppinggreen · Yesterday 15:29

Happened at my DD's leaver assembly at primary too so I DO believe it
It was a few years ago so I would have hoped it had changed but maybe not

the award for art goes to little Sophie, what a gorgeous pair of legs and Bertie, what a creative lad. And iris for the English award with the super curly hair and beautiful blue eyes and Fred whose intellect is unsurpassed in the English department. That sort of thing? Yes, ok 🙄

The head is male I'd say mid 50s for not as if he's really old

comments were like, oh and tabbitha, she's achieved so much last year, self taught pianist, always helpful and kind and a great example to all the the other children in class x
Achieved xyz mostly related to values zx its a values award
And she absolutely gorgeous.....

Then everyone claps child goes up gets award

And exactly same kinda comments for the boys yet not on remark about looks
So same comments without the and hes gorgeous
Looks not mentioned
As they shouldn't be as its irrelevant

Maybe it was more Gorgeous Dahling, said with a flourish.

My children’s school’s awards were never gendered. You were either best/top/most effort at something or you weren’t.

Screamingabdabz · Yesterday 15:34

Yes complain. People don’t necessarily see their own misogyny unless it’s pointed out to them.

Sounds so unlikely.

Quite. What HT would play fast and loose with their career like this?

Suchevilforebodings · Yesterday 15:35

I'm not really getting the disbelief.

Old school headteachers do exist, especially in private schools.

So, did you talk to the HT at the end? Informed the Governors and Ofsted?

Wotsupmog · Yesterday 15:36

Good grief, where is this?

Beefybaby · Yesterday 15:36

I don't think he ment it offensively, he's actually a good head teacher imo, he greets all the children as they going in, in the morning, he's doesn't have to, makes himself visible so parents can approach, it's actually a fantastic school, yet this is just so disappointing girls still face this shite
