… It would be one's asking about trousers on flights.

Bearing in mind I've been on here over 20 years, Lived through all the baby pasta, the baby modelling threads and all that crap, that yet this one never dies.

I think it's more than even mother of a bride theme because more people are obsessed with what trousers to wear sitting down for a few hours.
What type of thread always makes you roll your eyes?

(Special points for people who say threats like the one we're on now, very good well done 😃)

OP posts:

Threads about social class and people obviously obsessed with keeping up with the Jones'.

Yep. And you just know that there are two high end cars up the path and nothing in the fridge !!

The ‘my child’s’ school/Tesco/our local council has banned the word ‘Christmas’ threads. Won’t be long now !!

Already seen one today!

ToWhitToWhoo · Today 19:25

Anti-disability threads, where people who need any accommodation for disabilitty are treated as scroungers or malingerers (if mildly/ moderately disabled) or being a poor economic investment (if severely disabled).

Threads that slag off fat people, or sometimes just people who don't meet the poster's ideal of slimness.

Threads where the OP is obviously out of her mind with worry or fear, and is constantly nagged for an update. Yes, it would be nice if everyone updated promptly, but if someone is in desperate circumstances, or may just have received bad news, that may not be their first priority.

But English people always think they are right about grammar.

sometimes they do, which is why I thought it would be informative to post the above .

JudgeJ · Today 19:26

Rosscameasdoody · Today 18:25

I think the problem here though is that ‘take’ is what we would use in the UK and ‘bring’ is an Americanisation.

Surely it depends on who's speaking to whom? If I invite someone to my home, or to a hospital appointment then I may be asked 'Can I bring my husband?', in that context 'Can I take my husband' would be wrong.

SylvanMoon · Today 18:42

Wait! I'm going on a long-haul soon and plan to wear trousers. But are you implying I also have to wear pants????

No pants would be grim. And probably vile, too. 😜

Visiting trades people -
How many cups of tea per day?
Would you provide biscuits or a lobster lunch?
Do I need to hire a portaloo for a 2 hour visit or could I possibly let them use the one that only the dogs use in the basement?

Always, always peri. Even though the woman is 31. Or 87.

Yep. Every time.
Woman = peri
Person over 60 = dementia
Child = ND.

Oh god yes. I posted about my mum and dad bickering increasingly and someone decided they both have dementia. They're both in their 60s so it would be incredibly bad luck and coincidental if they both developed dementia at the exact same time.

I’ve got a temperature of 47, am vomiting blood and my left leg has dropped off. Should I go to A and E?

invariablu invites at least 1 reply from some fucker who suggests ringing 111 instead of wasting hospital resources and a second fucker whose aunt/grandmother/husband’s colleague’s cat had this and is now completely fine.

and the contrary ones "I've got a wicklow on my pinky nail and i'm in A&E, been here for hours, the place is so busy uts ridiculous!"

PinkTonic · Today 19:33

Series threads, often about fairly serious/interesting topics where all the regulars turn up and announce themselves or ‘place mark’. Just watch the thread and bookmark. Extra demerits for posting pictures of cats.

WildlyInappropriate · Today 19:33

I was going to suggest that we should boycott threads which embody the top 10 or so suggestions from this thread, but I can’t resist even the ones that really, really irk me.

Threads that ask how people afford to live/eat/buy cars/go on holiday.
It's quite simple, they have enough money to do so.

Dandeloosha · Today 19:36

Sometimes people aren’t ND. Sometimes they’re just twats.

Even if someone is ND, that doesn’t mean they should get a free pass to be a twat.

Regardless of whether someone is not ND, or whether they are, if they are being a twat to you and making you unhappy, you are perfectly within your rights to leave. You don’t have to stay.

This is mine, too. A lot of them openly admit that they’re using the AIBU to direct traffic to their inane threads, too.

Violinist64 · Today 19:39

The guess my age ones. They never end well because the poster has been told by x number of polite people in real life that, although she is 53, she only looks 27. Then posters on here, not being party to her real life friends, guess anywhere from 55 upwards.

My parents bickered probably from the moment they met until my dad took his last breath but I never knew two people to adore one another more.

Obviously in MN land their marriage was toxic, both had dementia/were Peri/were ND and presumably they both should've LTB.

To be honest I think this translates across disability in general. I was a disability outreach worker for many years and I met my fair share of people who would still have been twats regardless of whether they had one leg or two !!

As a neurodiverse woman, the threads that rile me are the ones about blokes behaving appallingly where everyone is clambering to suggest neurodiversity. Sometimes tossers are just tossers, and inventing a neurodiversity to excuse them is actually ableist and deeply offensive. It’s often rooted in misogyny, too; the same people would be much less likely to excuse a woman in the same way.

The racist ones

But generally they are not racist at all and its just certain posters determined to twist and distort the most innocuous of posts ...... e.g. OP starts a light hearted thread about how to serve toast (there was one earlier) and states they prefer Robertsons Marmalade to Tiptree.....cue any number of enraged posters deciding the OP must be a despicable, hateful racist

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · Today 19:48

They don't pop up so often anymore but there used to be a regular glut of "I'm going shopping in Lidl/Aldi later because I can no longer afford Ocardo. What should I buy?" .

RudePhthaloDalmadoodle · Today 19:49

The ones where the poor OP has thoroughly wracked their brain and still just can't understand how someone else would do something differently, even if it's already been explained on here a thousand times:

Why do people ignore the doorbell if they're home?

Why on earth name your children Jennifer and Sebastian if you're regularly going to address/refer to them as Jen and Seb?

Why say "can I get" when I would say "may I have" (even when I actually MEAN "can I get")?

Extra points for stating or implying that said inexplicable behaviour ONLY happens on MN and is done by the vast majority of MN posters.

Also the ones that come on and throw a tizz because there's been breaking news for half an hour on another continent where everyone's asleep and no one has started a thread about it - which proves conclusively that everyone on MN's a hypocrite because they've posted about other things before but not about this.
