AIBU- Stuffed Toy in the office.

I work in a newly formed team in an office. We have our team admin who I am going to guess is at least 26-28 y.o. woman.

We did one of those "professional" corporate team-building tests, and she seemed really confronted by some of the feedback she got. Since then, she has started acting more childlike and dependent and constantly seeking feedback on things she clearly can handle herself.

Today, however, she started walking around the office with a stuffed toy. She brought the toy-a crocheted horse- into the meetings and had it on her lap, with the head poking onto the table while she was typing, and was hugging it to her body when walking back from meeting rooms like a child and talking to other team members.

She is getting married this year and has said she just wants to elope, as the cost and managing all the preparations are stressful, and she is dreading it because she will be the centre of attention. She is clearly very sensitive and going through a very tough time (none of her family lives here), but AIBU that this is a step too far, or am I just getting a bit too old/grumpy and should mind my own business as she isn't harming anyone?

Ok well you can’t be expected to understand how I can communicate with fish, because you’ve never experienced it.

Come on some things are just objectively ridiculous.

It is ridiculous to you, because you have not experienced it.
I just don't think it is cool to ridicule something you don't understand. Take the moment to learn instead.

No, someone carting a stuffed horse around an office is not a teachable moment. Give over.

There’s nothing to learn. Grown adults shouldn’t be walking around cuddling stuffed animals unless they have a learning disability and are not age appropriate. This is attention seeking nonsense like the emotional support dogs and the pronouns.

Of course it’s not like a bloody crutch

Yes, it is. You clearly don’t understand the context.

Her wedding stress?

Makemydaypunk · 09/10/2026 21:18

It’s all a bit bring you whole self to work isn’t it, err no thanks I don’t want to see grown ass adults sucking dummies, carrying dolls or cuddly toys around the office, I mean seriously how anyone can support this nonsense, imagine if staff on a factory line couldn’t cope without their Barbie or Action Man, they’d be laughed out of town!

Transitional objects.

For adults, these tend not to take the form of cuddly toys. Particularly in public places.

People who are actually used to a workplace

OK, so should she get sacked and then live off benefits?

Either you want disabled people in the workplace, with their coping mechanisms and all... or you don't. So they spend a life on benefits.
What it is to be?

I am sure the lady in the OP could get time off if she wanted. Maybe she is trying to push through and her crutch... the horse, is what is helping.

Ok so where does this eventually go? You can suck dummies? Bring baby bottles of milk in? Wear a onesie? Sorry but I refute that we should allow absolutely anything otherwise we’re ’ableist’

Disabled because she brings a toy horse to work?

I’ve heard it all now.

What next riding a hobby horse around the office?

Who suggested she should be sacked? Stop making shit up.

PeasOff · 09/10/2026 21:38

XenoBitch · 09/10/2026 20:39

Yep, you can get weighted toys specifically for this. The ads have them marketed at adults.
I think OP said the horse was crocheted. Maybe someone special had made it, so it is particularly soothing or reminds her of them.

Very well could be the case!

You're obviously terribly stupid.

Well, it seems everyone is offended by the sight of someone holding a toy to the point they have to post about it on here, and try and rile up the pitchfork welding masses to agree with them.

I make toys. I made one for a teen with ASD. It was weighted, scented, and had the crinkly stuff you get in baby toys. They took it to college, and I was told by their mum that it helped a lot.
Some people on here are clueless, and their comments are ableiest.

Your worldview seems to be that anyone should be allowed to do whatever they want whenever they want, with zero expectation of adult behaviour or responsibility. So long as somebody else picks up the tab of course.

I work with children and young adults with SEN and they are massively helpful in helping with regulation. It's a shame that people are mocking people for using them when realistically it doesn't harm anyone else for them to do so.
