Altercation in carpark

Icecreamsundaz · 05/10/2026 13:30

I was in a supermarket carpark, I had put my baby in her carseat and had just loaded my groceries in the boot. A car parked in the parent and child space next to me and an older couple got out, early 70s I would guess, able bodied, no kids with them
I said "sorry do you realise thats s parent and child space" and I pointed to the markings.
Well his response was very rude in tone "I came here to do my shopping, not to dance around" ?? "It should be first come first served " and they stormed off. I was a bit taken aback, I said loudly but they were a bit away at this point so not sure if they heard me "god id hate to be so ignorant". I took a picture of their car. Not really sure what I was going to do with it, thinking I would think about it and perhaps report to management. I got into my car
The next he was at my window "you took a photo, its illeageal to take photos of other people's property, delete it." I ensured my doors were locked, he stood behind my car so I couldn't reverse out, she was at my windscreen taking photos of me. Eventually they moved and I got out.
Maybe I shouldn't have said anything but there were loads of other places they could have parked but the parent and child spaces are limited. Its very frustrating when I've all my kids and can't find a free parent and child space because people like this who dont need them take them and they don't give a shit

Deliberately missing the point. The point is that a private establishment can make their own rules as a condition of entry. And it is a pity more managers don't enforce this.

Are you seriously saying that this non-issue would even register on the radar of a supermarket manager?

Error404FucksNotFound · 05/10/2026 17:06

It was never going to end well. You have to ask yourself if confronting such people is worth it.

Parent and child spaces are a courtesy not a right and it's not like disabled spaces where the law (in theory) protects them from misuse.

I would like to see the p&c spaces put at the far end of car parks. What's needed is the extra space, not the closeness to the store. It would mean that people wouldn't be using them just to get next to the shop, only for the extra space. And a trolley store up there too.

You’re not even interested in why Megifer and her mum need a bigger bay?

Can you not think why?

Did the Be Kind movement pass you by?

Its cool im fine with someone thinking im a twat, has no impact on me at all 😊

(A twat with a mum thats gone almost 6 weeks without a fall yay! 🤣🙄😩)

notacooldad · 05/10/2026 17:06

What a load of unnecessary drama!

If the supermarket had a problem with it they woukd have wardens or cameras on it.

Personally I would have minded my own buisness.

@Everanewbie
OK let's work through this.
2 customers have an argument in a car park over where to park. There will be accusations on both sides.
The store manager or staff won't be witnesses to what happened. It could be that the accuser (OP) might have been really bloody rude.
Banning the people who are LEGALLY allowed to park in that spot might be justifiably pissed off with accuser.
It's a case of 'she said / he said'
To investigate this fully, they would need to look at the CCTV - this could take at least 15 minutes.
Now times that by 20, 50, 70+ instances a day. Store managers just do not have time to deal with this kind of shit.

A good fair minded store manager, if it gets to him or her, will politely ask them to park in a 'normal' parking spot next time.
Most instances will not escalate to this though. Just a lot of passive aggressive stares &/or mutterings in the car park

Yes, I agree with this, but I'd ask them to move now. The banning comes if they repeat or refuse to move, or continue to be confrontational. But on the whole, good summary.

I’m with you OP. If they need a wider space they should apply for a blue badge. But their reaction clearly shows that they’re just entitled cunts.

If they’re elderly they will have much more difficulty in getting a blue badge because it’s disability that is considered, not difficulties caused by the advancement of age. OP has no idea whether there was a disability or not and I’d hazard a guess that if one or other of them does have a disability that doesn’t qualify for a BB, the anger shown was probably as a result of being challenged yet again and being sick of explaining. I have a BB and the number of people who think they are entitled to an explanation of my condition when I use it is concerning. So I have some sympathy for them if this is the case.

Megifer · 05/10/2026 14:43

Id be fine for someone to do this to my car. There's cameras and I have a few minor scratches I could poss get sorted at the same time courtesy of their insurance 😃 all for the price of a few mins time getting a crime reference number 👍

How funny if the person couldn't be traced or isn't insured. You wouldn't be so cocky then

You have absolutely no idea what qualifies for a blue badge, do you?

I hope those 6 weeks continue for many more!

She was standing up for right ovber wrong. A rare value nowadays.

It's infuriating when my parents cannot get a disabled space as they are sometimes occpied by taxis etc.

Why can't people simply follow society's rules which are there for the good of all.

At this point 2/3 of people think the OP was unreasonable for standing up for right over wrong, you I expect are one of them. Ever wonder why our society is now such a cess pit compared to 50 years ago?

People blame Covid or the cost of living but people are definitely nastier these days.

ToKittyornottoKitty · 05/10/2026 17:08

Loveofeclairs · 05/10/2026 17:05

Then they probably should have said so instead of reacting in such an entitled manner.

Why the hell should they? Having a disability isn’t anyone else’s business, OP chose to be confrontational so they responded in kind.

Exactly, I’m sure they would be used a lot less by parents if they weren’t near the entrance

I don’t think anyone here has a full appreciation of how difficult it is to get a blue badge - MN traditionally thinks they’re handed out like sweets. A follow on from that is that elderly people have much more difficulty in securing one because often their mobility problems are due to age and not disability. Which doesn’t qualify. You can disqualify the person but it doesn’t mean the need disappears.

PenelopeChipShop · 05/10/2026 17:11

I mean, I DO agree with you, but I wouldn't have wasted my energy. I've seen a 20-something in a sports car park in one before now but just rolled my eyes. I've also been 8 months pregnant and literally had to wait for the car parked next to me to leave (from a normal space) because I was too massive to get back in my car once someone was next to me! I needed a P&C space then but didn't even know it.

People know. They just don't care.

This thread seems very ageist to me

Fucks sake 😂you started it. Why not tell us what their skin colour and sexual orientation was, they'd be about as relevant. Also, if you're going to use the word broached, at least check it's meaning and usage.

Also, if you're going to use the word broached, at least check it's meaning and usage.

I read OP’s post as ‘I actually broasted a young couple once’ and got Hansel and Gretel vibes.

I’m sure they’d be used a lot less by entitled pensioners and white van drivers if they were at the far end of the car park. I’d love them to be there.
