Altercation in carpark

Icecreamsundaz · 05/10/2026 13:30

I was in a supermarket carpark, I had put my baby in her carseat and had just loaded my groceries in the boot. A car parked in the parent and child space next to me and an older couple got out, early 70s I would guess, able bodied, no kids with them
I said "sorry do you realise thats s parent and child space" and I pointed to the markings.
Well his response was very rude in tone "I came here to do my shopping, not to dance around" ?? "It should be first come first served " and they stormed off. I was a bit taken aback, I said loudly but they were a bit away at this point so not sure if they heard me "god id hate to be so ignorant". I took a picture of their car. Not really sure what I was going to do with it, thinking I would think about it and perhaps report to management. I got into my car
The next he was at my window "you took a photo, its illeageal to take photos of other people's property, delete it." I ensured my doors were locked, he stood behind my car so I couldn't reverse out, she was at my windscreen taking photos of me. Eventually they moved and I got out.
Maybe I shouldn't have said anything but there were loads of other places they could have parked but the parent and child spaces are limited. Its very frustrating when I've all my kids and can't find a free parent and child space because people like this who dont need them take them and they don't give a shit

Yes really! Who takes a pram into a supermarket? Car seats for little babies, but the useful trolleys with seats in for older and 10 year olds walk independently!

Shoplifters. It is a known thing.

You can’t get a car seat out of a car in a normal parking bay with cars either side.

Thedevilhasfinallycaughtupwithhim · 06/10/2026 16:46

Why would you need a pram? Really?

Really, really. It's quite unusual to see them in a supermarket and even more unusual to find a parent who can't pick up their baby and carry it a few yards to where the pram will fit.

The people she spoke to weren’t disabled and if they were, there were adequate disabled spaces free as she has mentioned several times

She doesn’t know that they weren’t disabled.

We’re pretending we don’t see prams in shops now?
That’s the level we’re conversing at?

nomas · 06/10/2026 16:54

Chickpeacurrywithrice · 06/10/2026 16:45

So they can access P&C spaces or do you advise they should never do this?

I think people who have a need, whether it's a disability or a mobility issue, should be able to park in P&C bays without having children present.

Edit: to clarify, I'm not the disability outreach worker.

I also agree, I see very few prams in supermarkets, especially people that travel
by car.

There is no pretending, car seats, baby carriers etc. very popular.

I agree and I’m not an outreach worker either.

In supermarkets very rarely.

nomas · 06/10/2026 16:59

I have noticed after 8pm or 9pm P&C bays become a bit of a free for all. I suppose people think small kids are probably asleep by then.

Genuinely curious @Rosscameasdoody what you have dealt with relating to P&C spaces on behalf of clients multiple times

If you read my posts you’ll see. It’s all there. And it’s not rocket science.

Thedevilhasfinallycaughtupwithhim · 06/10/2026 17:06

Really? This thread (and many like it) is weird then

Patioplant · 06/10/2026 16:42

But they’re disabled so will be using disabled spaces

I am talking about P&C spaces

So am I. Because there is nothing in law that says a BB holder can’t use a P&C space if there are no more BB spaces left. It’s all there in my posts. If you can’t be bothered to look I’m certainly not going to repeat myself.

It’s literally a reasonable adjustment, which I have explained as well.

Sirzy · 06/10/2026 17:10

If I have to go to the local Lidl with 17 year ds (very rarely thankfully!) I park in the P and C spaces. Because the car park is designed stupidly meaning the p and c spaces are closer to the shop than the disabled spaces. He has a blue badge for a reason and I’m not putting him at more risk by parking further away and across a road!

Oh that’s a relief in one sense because then I know for sure that I’m not taking up a space that a disabled person could use!

As you’ve not quoted anyone, I’ll assume you’re speaking to me?

As I said

So your random post from 17 months ago, with very little detail, just one post from the OP doesn’t mention that all six mums turned up with cars and then used prams, I think most likely a walking group, don’t you?

Patioplant · 06/10/2026 17:13

Thedevilhasfinallycaughtupwithhim · 06/10/2026 16:44

Yes and yes.

You need the extra space for prams.

You have discussed this with friends? All whinging and complaining presumably?

honestly never ever discussed as i say in 17 years and do grateful for that!!

Patioplant · 06/10/2026 17:16

Is this something that you experience a lot @Thedevilhasfinallycaughtupwithhim and really grinds you down?

Have you been drinking?
You’ve asked me this multiple times and I have already answered you.

The “are you drunk” is always a very poor arguement.

Yeah, it's right up there with 'are you on glue?' and 'you sound unhinged.'

Rude and obnoxious thing to say, and often a sign that someone is losing the argument.

So it’s not that you rarely see prams in supermarkets, it’s that you don’t know for certain which mode of transport they’ve used and for that reason we shouldn’t have P&C spaces.

Thedevilhasfinallycaughtupwithhim · 06/10/2026 17:22

Or, it’s a sign that someone is repeatedly asking the same questions and taking no notice of the answers.
