Chicken nuggets etc

Can I ask why people feed their kids this shite? Why don’t you start off weaning on proper food and then just serve up whatever you have cooked for the whole family? I really cannot understand this

Most chicken nuggets are not terrible for you anymore.

Favouritefruits · 04/10/2026 18:52

Every person tries to do best by their child, everyone is different and not all chicken nuggets are equal! Unless you know every single person’s situation you can’t judge.

Goldengirl123 · 04/10/2026 18:53

I don’t just mean chicken nuggets. My own kids do it with their kids. why sausages , burger, chicken nuggets etc? Just cook a nice meal with vegetables. If kids aren’t used to it, they won’t eat it so introduce it immediately to

Yes I can. When our kids were little they didn’t have these choices. I really don’t understand it

A lot of adults haven’t learnt to cook.

What on earth is wrong with a sausage or a burger?

WaffleMacGubbins · 04/10/2026 18:54

Horribly judgemental of me, but I absolutely agree. Also love it when parents of picky eats complain that they'll only eat kebab meat, salt and vinegar pringles and popcorn chicken. Well you gave the kids those things, before they first had them, they didn't know of their existence. You could have given them anything. Why give them crap?

Goldengirl123 · 04/10/2026 18:55

I don’t mean once in a while but every night?

Excuse me while I just stop laughing.

I did start my kids on ‘proper food’. I have video and picture evidence of them eating all sorts of fruit and veggies and home made meals. Always the same stuff as us….

BUT God gave me a child with a food allergy and ASD. He isn’t as bad as some but beige food often becomes safe food as it’s predicable. Does he have it every day - no. But like I said he’s not as bad as some. On holidays he lives on bread rolls and chips …

Whoa! Is that all you have to do?? Wow. Think you've solved it! For the whole country! 🤯

Processed meat.

Smartiepants79 · 04/10/2026 18:56

Do they feed them that every single meal?? If not, then be quiet.
It is perfectly possible to feed children both home cooked meal with vegetables and also nuggets or sausage with vegetables.
Mine were weaned on homemade food etc. They still have nuggets sometimes now they’re teenagers.
These foods as part of a balanced diet are fine.

Not all processed food is bad for you.

Edited

Please explain how to make a sausage or a burger without putting the meat through a process first.

I do agree with you mostly. I don’t buy these foods so toddler eats what we eat and so far touch wood they eat anything with no pickiness (aware this can change as they get older). Only downside is when toddler goes to nursery twice a week I often see on the app they serve food I wouldn’t necessarily give to a toddler (sausage, wedges, tinned spaghetti hoops). As they only go twice a week and the meals are mostly okay I can live it. Once their eating habits are formed I wouldn’t have a problem with this food occasionally, at a restaurant or whatever. But for the foreseeable dinners will be home cooked meals, same as we have. If we are in a rush etc I just whip up an omelette or something- quicker than nuggets anyway

Surroundedbyfools · 04/10/2026 19:01

Ok boomer. Obviously Ragebait.
please only concern yourself with your own food

Not to mention that these kinds of threads stink of classism

Goatsarebest · 04/10/2026 19:03

We used to run cooking classes on a large council estate.
Loads of people have never learnt to cook or ever seen meals prepared from ingredients when growing up. They default to what they know.
Loads have never lived in housing where there was space to sit at tables and eat together or store, prepare or cook proper food.
Loads were brought up in dysfunctional families were nuggets or burgers were great because the option was that or no food, between being yelled at, their mother being yelled at etc
Some mothers were working two jobs because all the other money went on drink and gambling. They were literally exhausted so nuggets were actually what their 10 year olds were cooking while they were out cleaning.
There's some reasons to judge against. OP.

Bloau · 04/10/2026 19:03

We cook homemade food the vast majority of the year but that doesn't mean I don't find a frozen pizza genuinely tasty every couple of months or so. My children are the same with food like nuggets. Amongst my friends, no one I know doesn't cook proper food but most of the children really love chicken nuggets if they're on offer (e.g. parties).

BreezyLimeDog · 04/10/2026 19:03

Oh, just cook a nice meal with veg.

as a parent wasn’t it your job to teach them to do this if you care so much?!

Absolutely, people are amazed my kids don’t eat beige rubbish but that’s because I never buy it! They’re used to eating what we do - proper curries, stews, soups, roast dinner, risottos and so on.
