To eat an entire Vienetta like an ice lolly?

Ok hear me out. I eat really healthily normally. I am a size 12, muscular, lift weights 3 times a week. Slim, athletic build. Try to avoid UPFs and sugar.

Sometimes I just want a release from the pressure of being so well behaved! I have quite an academic job, work part time but end up spending some spare time on the house/family/kids. Make a huge effort to support my two teens, my DH, as well as working in a pressured job.

Sometimes I just want to let loose and do something "crazy" like eat an entire Vienetta (mint) like it's a giant ice lolly while everyone else is asleep. Is this normal behaviour or AIBU?

Wouldn’t be my choice (I don’t have a sweet tooth for starters) but it will literally zero harm as a once off and it’s one of the great things about being an adult. Own money + free will. Nothing in holding you back!

Ineedanewsofa · 28/09/2026 19:56

Have you got a stick large and sturdy enough to support the weight? How strong are your wrists?
The practicalities of “like an ice lolly” need some thought.

TY78910 · 28/09/2026 20:00

Some people on this thread are so depressing.

OP, when you say like an ice lolly, do you mean shove a stick in it and eat like an ice lolly? Totally trying to envision the logistics here.

Let me guess. Lard? I stopped buying my dc 99p cones when I found out it's used as a fat substitute in ice cream.

Lard in ice cream? Please let know what range you were buying so I can avoid them. I would be violently ill with that

YABU. But only because I've had a life long hatred of Vienetta and absolutely no idea why.

Me too. I didn't know there were others like me - sometimes I feel so alone in my unfounded Vienetta loathing 🥹...

Its interesting on these threads how mumsnet is ok with binge eating but not drinking too much

I don’t think binge eating is great health wise if you do it frequently (obviously) but it’s not like binge drinking as it’s not personality altering. That’s the problem with drinking- it can lead the person consuming it to harm others.

I feel like a good wooden spatula would do the job quite well.

Haven't had a vinnatta in years and years and I fear they do taste as nice with out now banned additives and fake chocolate. If there is an old school Romantica somewhere I will pay big money for it. Best Icecream cake ever!

Oh Romantica!!!! They were proper luxe for us growing up, I haven't seen them in years.. off to google ✊

Go for it. It's good for the soul, if not the body! And we should look after both.

You can get vienetta alike lollies in Iceland, called Vienna.
I don’t think you should eat a whole one tbh.

Why are you telling OP this? It's going to mean nothing to her.

I didn't exactly hate them, but those very thin shards of chocolate would occasionally actually cut my mouth. Could never share my granddad's conviction that they were the food of the gods. Have proper ice cream, OP. Without sharp bits (and three different kinds of gum).

I once saw someone eat one outside of Tesco.

How? Had they come equipped with knife / bowl / spoon? Or just bit into the whole thing like a sandwich?

BrezhnevsLuxuriantEyebrows · 28/09/2026 21:05

In the wonderful 70 Up programmes, they were talking about Simon and his DW, and her name was Viennetta. She sounds like an amazing, truly formidable woman; but I was feeling quite peckish for a while when watching it!

Ofcoursenot26 · 28/09/2026 02:18

They're always disappointingly small anyway, more so with shrinkflation than ever before. Just do it.

Yes, this is true: like so many products, a loaf of Viennetta nowadays is a mere shadow of its equivalent from three decades ago.

Bit in to it 😅

I've always wanted to eat an entire supermarket kids birthday cake. The kind with fondant icing and a some kind of character on top.

I could happily demolish a whole Colin the caterpillar

I can imagine you wielding your large knife over him and hissing "You're never going to make it to butterfly-hood if I have anything to do with it, sunshine!!"

Oh my gosh I completely forgot I had posted this. Was feeling very silly after a glass of wine and a really long and exhausting day on Sunday!

To answer some questions:

No i haven't actually done it.

I have a mint one in the freezer

I would eat it by opening one end and holding it vertically and devouring it like a beast

I dont have an eating disorder

I wasnt really craving sugar but I just love the crunch of the delicate chocolate layers and I love mint ice cream

My point with all the irrelevant background info was just that I am generally "good" and work hard, look after everyone else, eat healthily and exercise, and sometimes I just think sod it and I want to let loose and do something a bit silly/crazy. At least eating too much ice cream isn't harming anyone else.

Have to admit I have been put off by all the talk of non-melting ice cream and enulsifiers. I try to avoid UPFs as much as possible so thats the only thing putting me off doing it!

OP posts:
Marymanna · 29/09/2026 09:13

And I get the point that eating an entire tub of "nicer" ice cream would be better in terms of taste and health. But I think its the silliness of eating a viennetta like an ice lolly that attracts me.

Yay! We can't be the only ones either. Maybe theres a secret, underground Vienetta's loathing club.

It's ages since I've seen this. For some reason, it always makes me smile. Not sure why, it could be the wiggling machines or just the sight of miles of ice-cream!
.

Sensational video. But I did gasp when I saw the wastage bucket 😮
