To eat an entire Vienetta like an ice lolly?

Ok hear me out. I eat really healthily normally. I am a size 12, muscular, lift weights 3 times a week. Slim, athletic build. Try to avoid UPFs and sugar.

Sometimes I just want a release from the pressure of being so well behaved! I have quite an academic job, work part time but end up spending some spare time on the house/family/kids. Make a huge effort to support my two teens, my DH, as well as working in a pressured job.

Sometimes I just want to let loose and do something "crazy" like eat an entire Vienetta (mint) like it's a giant ice lolly while everyone else is asleep. Is this normal behaviour or AIBU?

It is fine, occasionally, as long as you’re not doing it every night after dark as a secret eater.
I have accidentally ate a whole pack of chocolate bars depending on the type.

YABU. So unhealthy.

Mint Viennetta ingredients:

Reconstituted skimmed milk
Coconut fat
Water
Sugar
Glucose-fructose syrup
Glucose syrup
Whey solids (milk)
Fat-reduced cocoa powder
Emulsifiers (mono- and diglycerides of fatty acids, ammonium phosphatides)
Stabilisers (locust bean gum, guar gum, tara gum, carrageenan)
Colour (copper complexes of chlorophyllins)
Natural flavouring.

No lard, at least, @trumpredcard.

Thank you! I used to love a slice of Mint Viennetta back in the day.

Maybe its the fats, emulsfiers and stabilisers gum that turn it into a lump.

It certainly isn't a milk based ice cream.

You coming back to reply OP?

Nannyfannybanny · 28/09/2026 08:27

Eating in secret is never normal. I have nursed eating disorders.

It's ages since I've seen this. For some reason, it always makes me smile. Not sure why, it could be the wiggling machines or just the sight of miles of ice-cream!
.

I like videos of automated processes like this because of the satisfying rhythm and smoothness, but it explains the effect observed by @Newname26 that it doesn't actually melt properly - actual icecream couldn't be used in that kind of production line, it doesn't have those physical properties.

God only knows what is actually in them.

I'd have thought if left out overnight they would melt into a puddle?
Well they turn into a congealed lump. Put me off for life

This - it's not really icecream

Vienna/Vienatta - strange choice from the manufacturers, given that the -etta suffix in Italian is a diminutive 🙂

Presumably the original was called Vienetta, and Iceland didn't fancy Vienettaetta as the name of the smaller alternative!

Now this thread has made me want to try this out if ghoulish curiosity, rather than eat one!

(whole tub of Haagen Dazs: hold me back! )

The chocolate bits did what you'd expect, went soft.

The green stuff primarily stayed between the chocolate. It wasn't just left for a few hours it was a full overnight. In a modern flat.

Do try it.

Let me guess. Lard? I stopped buying my dc 99p cones when I found out it's used as a fat substitute in ice cream.

What's a 99p cone?

They'd have needed a bigger packet, to fit the name on 😅

hellospring26 · 28/09/2026 09:38

YABU - any other ice cream crack on but Vienetta is 🤢

Takethehuntingquiche · 28/09/2026 08:56

What's a 99p cone?

The cones with a 99 flake in them.
Cadbury flake 99, 4 in box for most supermarkets

Google them i don't know how to save pictures

OriginalSkang · 28/09/2026 09:43

Yeah I don't understand the ice lolly part. Just use a spoon to eat the whole thing. It would make more sense to use a trough and eat it with your mouth only than to shove a stick in it and have it drip all over the place

Newname26 · 28/09/2026 09:46

I assumed she meant the 4 in a box from supermarket rather than the soft whip ice cream you also get from vans etc.

SatinHeart · 28/09/2026 09:47

Do it! You don't need MNs permission 😂

Either Lidl or Aldi used to do mini Vienetta-type clones that actually came on a lolly stick. But I think a full size Vienetta would be more fun.

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 28/09/2026 10:10

YABU. But only because I've had a life long hatred of Vienetta and absolutely no idea why.

HelloFreshly · 28/09/2026 10:15

Mint near ice cream is an abomination.

SnugglyJumpersMakeItBetter · 28/09/2026 10:44

'Ultra-Processed People' discusses the non melting ice-cream in the first chapter. I can't remember what he calls it now? A 'gelatinous foam substance' or something. It's a real eye-opener that book!!

Eat what you want OP. Nobody can tell you you're being unreasonable for something that doesn't affect anyone else.

How dare you! Minter Wonderland is my absolute fave but you only see it in the Winter now 😭

Flamingojune · 28/09/2026 11:01

How can u crave that much sugar etc if u normally eat healthily? Sounds awful
