To eat an entire Vienetta like an ice lolly?

Marymanna · 28/09/2026 01:24

Ok hear me out. I eat really healthily normally. I am a size 12, muscular, lift weights 3 times a week. Slim, athletic build. Try to avoid UPFs and sugar.

Sometimes I just want a release from the pressure of being so well behaved! I have quite an academic job, work part time but end up spending some spare time on the house/family/kids. Make a huge effort to support my two teens, my DH, as well as working in a pressured job.

Sometimes I just want to let loose and do something "crazy" like eat an entire Vienetta (mint) like it's a giant ice lolly while everyone else is asleep. Is this normal behaviour or AIBU?

'Ultra-Processed People' discusses the non melting ice-cream in the first chapter. I can't remember what he calls it now? A 'gelatinous foam substance' or something. It's a real eye-opener that book!!

Eat what you want OP. Nobody can tell you you're being unreasonable for something that doesn't affect anyone else.

I had no idea.
I found out the hard way it doesn't melt. That incident in my kitchen was about 20 years ago, before UPF was really being thought about.

pinkspeakers · 28/09/2026 11:06

Sounds pretty unpleasant to me, but whatever makes you happy!

A whole Vienetta contains twice the adult's recommended daily amount of saturated fats. But won't do you much harm on a rare occasion I suppose.

Wait till you see what Mackie's ice cream does. They make ice cream for different pricepoints and their product for Aldi is 🤐

An armchair psychiatrist writes: does this go back to a childhood in which your mother refused to buy Viennettas because they were 'bad for you'/too expensive/too cheap/something only people like your Auntie Trish has'? Hmm? Do you also feel an urge to sneak downstairs when everyone's in bed to watch clips of Tiswas on Youtube, instead of Swap Shop?

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 28/09/2026 12:36

You can eat what you like 🤷‍♀️

Ooh,this is interesting... Can you say more?

ItalianChineseIndianMexican · 28/09/2026 12:46

I hear you OP.
I'm generally 'good' and sometimes you just need to let off steam or have a blow out. Friends may do that with alcohol, I'd do it with food! So have a full share bag of sweets to myself for example
I probably have been known to eat a full tub of Ben & Jerry's ice-cream to myself too. Not particularly proud of such things but if it's very very occasionally, then it's not a problem.

FarmGirl78 · 28/09/2026 12:48

My traditional is, for at least 20 years now, I'll have a Vienetta for breakfast on both my birthday, and boxing day. My birthday, because I deserve it. And I have no idea where boxing day came from

I've never understood the difference between the vanilla blue box version and the cream of scottish, cream box version?

Are you telling me to leave some scoops out, over night?

It is fine, occasionally, as long as you’re not doing it every night after dark as a secret eater.
I have accidentally ate a whole pack of chocolate bars depending on the type.

I too have had many snackcidents in my time.. especially with Jaffa Cakes 😋

@GarlicSomething that video showing the makings of it so soothing! 😎

Scorchio84 · 28/09/2026 16:00

actual icecream couldn't be used in that kind of production line, it doesn't have those physical properties.

That's really interesting @KindlySurfiingPlatypus thanks!

Mint near ice cream is an abomination.

Yeah I'm with you on this, I love mint Aero's though 🤔

Snackcident. My new favourite word. Thank you.

You’re an adult with free will do what you want, you’re not hurting anybody by eating a shit ton of ice cream. Get it ate!

Mischance · 28/09/2026 16:10

When my children were small my OH once got up from the table and said: " I am sick of all this healthy food. Come on girls!" He took them off to the supermarket and came home with a trolley load of naughty goodies, including a whole confectionery jar of creme eggs!

It was a one off but the girls kept hoping .... !

Thats exactly the reason I bought it.
Friend was coming to mine for dinner. We had a bit each and the rest was forgotten about

This is so true.
With me it’s shoes and anything that fizzes

MirrorMirror1247 · 28/09/2026 18:08

I ate a whole Viennetta to myself one Christmas!

I live alone, no one missed out. Highly recommend.

You can get vienetta alike lollies in Iceland, called Vienna.
I don’t think you should eat a whole one tbh.

Yes, but they don’t have the nice, thin, crackly chocolate in them - it’s just Viennatta shaped ice cream lollies. Don’t bother.

Mind you, my mum bought a Viennetta recently - v.disappointing. Far less of the chocolate in it.

purplecorkheart · 28/09/2026 19:28

Haven't had a vinnatta in years and years and I fear they do taste as nice with out now banned additives and fake chocolate. If there is an old school Romantica somewhere I will pay big money for it. Best Icecream cake ever!

Thanks for that bit of info I'm NE Scotland where it's made.
I genuinely thought it's all the same.
That's a sly move

It's ages since I've seen this. For some reason, it always makes me smile. Not sure why, it could be the wiggling machines or just the sight of miles of ice-cream!
.

Oh that’s fascinating and very very satisfying!

RatsCatsandPuppies · 28/09/2026 19:48

You are 100% not being unreasonable! I’m not sure a vienetta would be my first choice of icecream product to do that with, but the general concept is not at all unreasonable!

Flamingojune · 28/09/2026 19:52

Its interesting on these threads how mumsnet is ok with binge eating but not drinking too much
